OCTOBER 21: Moody’s extension is official, the Warriors confirmed in a press release (Twitter link).
OCTOBER 20: The Warriors and guard Moses Moody have agreed to a three-year, $39MM rookie scale contract extension, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul told ESPN’s Shams Charania (Twitter link).
A Friday report by Charania suggested that a Moody extension was more likely than one for teammate Jonathan Kuminga, who is seeking a more lucrative contract. The deadline for rookie scale extensions is Monday at 6 p.m. ET.
Moody hasn’t been able to crack the starting lineup during his three seasons, except as a fill-in, but he’s established himself as a reliable reserve. He has appeared in 181 regular season games (23 starts), averaging 5.9 points in 14.3 minutes.
Last season, he appeared in 66 games (nine starts), posting averages of 8.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 0.9 assists in 17.5 minutes per night. He shot 46.2% from the field and 36% on 3-point attempts.
The No. 14 pick of the 2021 draft, Moody is still just 22 years old and continues to develop his overall game. How Moody slots into the Warrriors’ rotation this season remains to be seen. He’ll be battling Brandin Podziemski, Buddy Hield and De’Anthony Melton for backcourt minutes, with Stephen Curry the only surefire starter.
Moody will make $5.8MM this season before the extension kicks in. He’ll be the fifth 2021 first-rounder to agree to an extension, joining Cade Cunningham, Evan Mobley, Scottie Barnes and Franz Wagner, as our tracker shows.
The contract will be fully guaranteed, The Athletic’s Anthony Slater tweets. He’ll still be trade-eligible this season but his outgoing salary would count as $5.8MM (this season’s salary) while his incoming number for a new team would be $11.2MM, due to the poison pill provision.
Great move to lock Moody up for 3 years. At $13M/yr, it’s considerably more than recent deals with comparable players would suggest, and $5M more than I’d insisted was his ceiling (apologies to Michol) before the preseason. Moody has stepped up when he needed to, and the Warriors expect further growth.
Moody is a part of the 10 man rotation. Period
But is this an investment in the 2025-26 and beyond, or does Moody start immediately to get minutes in 2023-24 commensurate with his $13M, placing him before Hield, Melton, and GP2?
My view is that Moody should be the first SG off the bench, ahead of Hield, Melton and GP2.
He won’t be with the Warriors 3 years. They will trade his a$$ by this season’s deadline. Nothing has changed he’s still Mr casual.
I’ve never seen a player jog down the right side towards the Baseline in a half court set, and Jog right past the guy he’s supposed to be setting a pick on !!! Aggravates me to no end.
Gary show us on a youtube video where Moody does this. Or did he just do it once and because you despise him, that turns into “every play”? He does not do what you are saying on every play. He has a calmness and he’s a walking bucket, yes even more than Buddy. Moody has the highest ceiling of any of our SG corps and thats a fact no matter what your weirdly biased opinion thinks!!
Does Moody start? That’s the funniest question, rolling on the floor laughing statement I’ve heard outside of Davey in a long long time.
Gary, whatever you do, do not go to Warriors instagram, you will die. Its the opposite to here, every pro-Moody comment does numbers and a vast majority of Dub Nation wants Moody to be the superstar he can be.
You don’t. For “reasons”. Weird ones. Your analysis on Moody is bunk and useless. Just hold the L and admit you were wrong, like you were wrong with Luka.
Gary , re Moody starting, I didn’t intend to suggest that. I don’t see him starting for the Dubs in the next 3 years.
However, given that this is a rebuilding year, I think he should play 20 mins per game, some at SG and some at SF. We want Moody to develop. He’s not as good as Melton right now, but Melton is gone after this year, as is GP2.
It’s a great contract for Moody. He needs to play over other veterans. Yes, those guys are all decent players but Moody still has higher upside potential. Warriors need to let the young guys play and develop.
Michol, that’s the worst idea in the history of dports. [Davey hyperbole :) ]
If they play Moody ahead of the veterans you might as well kiss this season goodbye and Curry’s age 36 season will be a complete waste.
Why on Earth would you allow Moses Moody to learn on the job? That is foolish and will not happen.
Call coach Kerr crazy but he’s not dumb. He will not play Moody meaningful minutes outside of a spurt here and there.
It’s not like Warriors are going to make the playoff, gimme a break. Look at the last 2 wasted seasons when they all should have played more. This year it’s all about getting under the luxury tax and pretending to contend to sell season tickets.
Give Moody some credit. He’s worked his butt off since Day 1, he’s only 22 now. Coaches and players love his work ethic and character. He’s a team player and hustles. He’s our own pick so lets pray he develops and make it. In the old days, he just finished his senior yr.
Okay that’s different if you are calling this season over right here and right now.
Then your opinion is solid and if the Warriors think the same way they’ll do the same thing. Totally get that.
But I don’t believe that’s what the Warriors have in mind. That’s definitely not what I have in mind.
They wouldn’t have signed those veterans, they would have kept all young guys. But your point is valid if the Warriors are thinking this way, that they have no chance to make the playoffs..
Why can’t the Warriors make the playoffs?
Why didnt they make it last year?? Besides, Curry and draymond is older now.
That is a bit of a weak answer. The Warriors didn’t make it in 20 and 21, but won it all in 22. They have a much deeper bench this year. A number of players grown.
This team is better than last years by a bit. The additions were sneaky perfect players, and as much as I love Klay he is a net negative at this point.
The west is a beast but this team should be a good regular season team with the depth they have barring a Curry injury. No Steph no playoffs. If he gets hurt you p**p for Coop…
I’m not necessarily disagreeing with you guys. If anything, Warriors improved by subtraction. Klay was toxic and with him gone, it opens doors for the younger players. That being said, we are still nothing but a play in team. Warriors’ 2 timelines is still haunting us and still need to make some drastic decisions going forward. Btw, how is Curry going to fare this year after spending so much energy in the Olympics?
Win what 3 more last year that they gakked away in the last 15sec last year and theyre what the 5 seed. Its weird because they were a 10 seed, but outside of the bad stretch of play when Dray got suspended and Decky died they were like a 54 win team. They were super close to the 4 seed last year. If they can get out to a good start then you can run the kids against a bad team and rest Curry/Dray.
Gary, you use hyperbole 100000x more than I do. All I do is believe in Moses Moody. You do not.
;)
Michol, ignore butthurt Gary, your take is correct. Moody is a baller, lots of Kawhi Leonard in his game. Glad to have him have top 5 MPG on this team this year. Cant wait to see Podz relegated to 5 MPG as this squad wins 55-60 games on our way to #5!!!
Mchol I’m curious do you see Moody eventually becoming a better player than Melton? That’s saying a lot. If Melton hadn’t been injured he’d be making at least $20M
What’s Moody’s upside?
In yr 7 of his career, he’ll me making $13M. That suggests to me a 3&D rotation player, something like
20 mpg, 10 ppg, 37% from deep
Moody simply hasnt had opportunity to play. Yes, it’s his fault but it’s also Warriors fault for not playing him more. Warriors have wasted the last few yrs pretending to be a contender and didnt develop these young guys. We need to let them play and learn thru mistakes. Kuminga and Moody would have been so much better today. So we still have to see… he will have plenty opprtunity this year. Personally, he needs to do a better job figuring out the rhythm of the game and make quicker decisions offensively. That’s where Pods shines.
Moodys defense has been bad so the only way to get on the court is shooting. If his shot wasnt falling he got yanked because he was a negative when not making shots. It would have been good for him to play through it and develop but the team couldnt afford to do that.
Moody was all set up to get major minutes and breakthrough last season, then Draymond got suspended and Kerr decided Podz should get ALL the minutes…to poor results!
MIchol , ok, we’re in complete agreement on Moody.
If you read this, would love your 2024-25 Kuminga thumbnail.
As for the prospective Kuminga extension, the Moody deal helps to calibrate expectations… upwards.
He might get close to DOUBLE and he’ll be worth it. He is twice the player Moses Moody is. Hands down.
Or as he’s often said, he’ll bet on himself and be an RFA next summer. No problem. They’ll get a guy for this season playing in a contract year which often works out well.
5 yrs for $150m, not a penny more. There’s no way he doesnt take it. It’s a generational wealth.
Hey MIchol , we’re doing role reversal on Moody & jk!
All these deals are coming in 15%-20% higher than last year’s comps suggest Moody further helped himself with a sensational pre-season. Kuminga has similarly impressed this past month.
I’m predicting Kuminga, Suggs, and Johnson all get:
$35M /yr, 5 yrs at $175M.
I dont blame Kuminga; he doesnt want to make anything less than Quickly for example. That being said, he should still take the extension and not pass on generational wealth. He is young enough to have more opportnities for bigger contracts in the future. If Warriors dont extend him, he shouldnt take it personally. They just want to remain flxible to make a potential mid season trades, and it’s not because Lacob is cheap.
You know the team has already offered something in that range and if it was close this would be getting done. Kuminga wants more and is willing to bet on himself this year and try to earn it.
Uh oh.
Massive bargain, GSW looking to become another juggernaut starting this season…the dynasty continues…go give JK whatever he wants…
Juggernaut lol. Alright I’m out now, enjoy.
Good signing. Now let’s see him become a star. He been showing potential this year. Hopefully he gets enough minutes this year.
You’re as high as Davey effing J. Really arc, a star?
He won’t get the minutes because HE HASN’T EARNED THEM IN PRACTICE.
Who’s he going to play ahead of? Hield Melton Wiggins Podski Kuminga? How many guys is that?
He is trade bait. No ifs ands or buts. The man cannot play. He’s a six man on a crap team and a 10th or 11th man on a contender. How can you guys not see this. Sorry for the harsh words arc, you know we’re cool, but are you all so blind? My goodness.
People get so enamored with the latest shiny object, meaning a nice showing in a preseason bundle of games. Okay they decided to sign him instead of letting him test the market next summer. Great, 13 million per. Tradable asset. Nothing more nothing less.
Gary you are wasted drunk. Have a nice night.
Davey, it’s the wife’s fault !!
She said come home right “after 6.”
It was quite a sight! But kinda funny, I enjoyed your fired up posting hating a Warriors player who is very good, lol
Now that paul and Thompson is gone he will get minutes. He will anchor the 2nd team along with Podz. Melton is only here for 1 year and when he leaves the Warriors will need Moody even more.
Melton is also made of glass.
Not many on here talking about how Wiggs has been playing the 2…
If Kerr gives up the “Moody is a stretch 3”, then the 96 total “guard” minute breakdowns will look like:
Curry: 33
Melton: 19
Moody: 16
Buddy: 16
Podz and the rest: 12
This team has so many units that can cook with or without Curry, along with Steph going bigtime sicko mode in the Olympics, I get the feeling we might see a lot of “Steph 4Q DNPs” this season, which will open up the minutes to whoever, likely Moody-Podz or Moody-Melton. I am all-in and love this team, it really is 2021-22 all over, I cant wait til the real tests happen on that early Rockets-Wizards-Celtics-Cavs-Thunder road trip. We can gauge a lot off that run.
Kerr isn’t dropping Podz’ minutes from 26 to less than 12 per game..
You got paid nothing for this analysis, and it was still too much.
Podz only got those minutes because of Draymond’s suspensions. Now Moody gets some of those…sorry to burst your bubble but Podz is the odd man out now.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but there’s a disconnect between your head and reality.
Why? Because you say so? They aren’t going to pay Moody $13M a year to play 5 MPG. You’re just wrong. Eat it.
Dude this is why I give you s***! You have bonehead takes and then hyper defensively go after anyone that questions your terrible takes…. Podz/Steph/Dray those are your only guys making plays for others consistently. They will all play consistently.
Also while Moody looked good this pre season a lot of his min were coming against guys who wont be in the NBA this season so take it with a grain of salt, and he is still getting blown by by most faster guards in pre season.
The reason Moses was getting yo yo’d was because his defense has always been suspect and so if his shot wasnt falling he was getting dropped. He can guard Brunson/Luka type guards who are slow and physical but will get smoked by guys like Ja. If he can play point of attack defender with 6’6″ length and good wing span he will get min.
You know why Podz/Milton will play over him to start the year? It starts with a D! He can eat Heilds min if he is able to out shoot him or get into a bigger role with better D.
@ChapmansTrolling My takes have been proven correct time and time again, and that enrages you, you still call them “bonehead” even though they aren’t – rinse wash repeat. If you hate my takes so much there’s a mute button right there?
Why are you so concerned with my posts when you can easily mute me? I am always right and you are always wrong. I defend myself and you always come in to pile on like a coward – why wont you just talk basketball? Does not matter, I am now muting you. Argue at a wall, you lunatic.
Chapman , I think you’re right. Moody and Hield are fighting for minutes. Whoever loses gets dealt
Heild has one more guaranteed year and is just a role player. Either he works or hes gone. Moody is still young enough that he could be growing when Steph is retired. Heild could get dealt if someone they like is available before the deadline. It is still hard for them to match on a max star since you need a lot of contracts to get to 40-50M and teams cant take back 5 players mid season.
Chapman said:
> Heild has one more guaranteed year and is just a role player.
> Either he works or hes gone.
No, Hield has a four-year deal with the Warriors, and he has the option on the 4th year.
Fully guaranteed for 18M on the next 2 years and then a 3M guarantee year 3 with a team option in the 4th. I mean its probably a 2 year contract for 21M and a 9M tradable salary come Dec 15th.
They also aren’t going to cut Podz’ minutes more than half, just because you’ve posted 100 times about how overrated you think he is. Kerr won’t see this, and even if he did, he isn’t listening to you.
Kerr picked Podz to be part of the Team USA Select alongside TJD, after a very good rookie season. He isn’t going from that, to picking up garbage time minutes as the 5th guard, under the same coach.
You’re not analysing, you’re hoping and wishing.
Best +/- on the team last season over Steph. The last time that happened was over a decade ago. Im of course not counting the year he played 4 games…
@Cam ok sure buddy, Moses Moody is getting 5 MPG at $13M a year, that will totally happen!
You dont know ball!!!
He just got the MLE for 3 years off his rookie deal man. Wont even be that by the 3rd year. Thats not a lot of money in the modern NBA thats also not star money.
Moody a star? Where did you get that idea?
And quit liking your own posts. It’s not a good look.
The gloves are off tonight. Not sure what I’ll do tomorrow. Apologize or keep swinging. Just a heads up.
Nor are they paying him anywhere near as much as you essentially have claimed he’s worth, ie good starter money. Not the team, his agent, or even Moody himself believed that because otherwise he would’ve banked on RFA.
You’re literally the only person on this island.
> Podz only got those minutes because of
> Draymond’s suspensions.
Davey, you know that’s untrue. And you know that everyone knows you know that.
Why try so hard to make people dislike you?
You seem a bit confused. Draymond is a Power Forward. Some would call him a Point Forward. Podziemski is a Point Guard. Podz did not take any minutes away from Dray, or Moody.
Moody the same minutes as Buddy Hield? That is the worst analysis of anything I’ve read in any sport in the history of my life. I’m calling you out on that horrible take right here right now.
Explain what you think will happen Gary? You cant call someone out without providing a rebuttal!
BUDDY HIELD WILL PLAY MORE MINUTES THAN MOSES MOODY.
hahaha I mean, sometimes, sure? But not in the playoffs!
FYI it’d be the hypothetical trade partner, rather than Golden State, whose salary would be $11.2 for salary-matching purposes.
GSW can only take back 5.2 because that is whats outgoing and theyre near the hard cap. So You would be trading him for a 5.2M salary where the other team has to send 6M more out somewhere else. Its called poison pill provision for a reason.
Chapman, keep in mind that being under the cap means that the Warriors can aggregate salaries in trades, and that there are situations where needing to take back more salary than you send out can actually facilitate a transaction, especially when there are multiple teams involved.
To me, this doesn’t eliminate the possibility that Moody is traded in the next few months, only that it won’t be part of a straight-up, two team transaction.
.
If they trade Moody it gets really complicated.
GSW sends out Moody and can only take back slightly over his salary, and not even that if they want to do 10 days and maybe sign a 15th man later.
The receiving team, unless they are under the cap or can absorb Moodys salary without sending players out into a trade exception, must send out 11M.
If thats the case the other team needs to jettison 6M into cap space. If its a 3 team trade the Ws then need to “touch” the 3rd team also.
So other than a couple teams who still could absorb Moodys salary, that mostly dont have players that GSW would want, because theyre rebuilding and keeping the good players.
Even in a bigger trade he still massively janks up the money and makes you need 3 teams in most trades.
Also its really hard to aggregate Moody/Wiggins/Loon/GPII to get to a Max type contract matching because the Heat arent going to want to cut 3 players to ship out Jimmy in a 4 for 1. It works in the offseason when teams have 21 roster spots and can just cut and resign camp invite guys to free up spots.
Thats a value contract for GSW, could become a steal. Hopefully he gets more minutes and a bigger role (and lives up to it).
Interested in seeing what Kuminga gets if he gets an extension.
You’ve gotta have contracts to make trades.
Exactly
$13M for a bench player is crazy work. Warriors making a lot of bad decisions the last 5 or so years.
2022 was more than 5 or so years ago huh?
MDJ deserves GM of the year for how he correctly spotted 2021-22 as the blueprint, and to not chase the top heavy, KD-style big 3 star lineups. Do what works, and try and build a stronger roster than 2021-22. Done. Buddy, Melton, Lindy and Slomo are all perfect system fits. Skys the limit with this team as-is. 55-60 wins easy.
Most of the players that helped win in 2022 were acquired more than 5 years ago.
2022 coincidentally was also the year of the awful Jordan Poole contract and the mishandling of the Poole/Green fight.
What does the “mishandling” of the Dray/Poole fight have to do with Moody signing a bargain contract? You dont know ball.
Not even 10% of the cap next season. Welcome to the new CBA baby
Imagine crying over minutes on a team thats going all the way. Klay Thompson behavior.
Wiggins Melton Podz Moody. They’ll play in that order. Moody expensive 10th man. I like him and I hope he moves up the ranks BUT the first 3 will get more minutes. For now.
All this arguing amounts to nothing…it’s a range of average to solid role players.. depth now is ok but this is by no means a great team. Why is everyone concerned about playing time? They may as well play the young players more as more upside to them, and either way the warriors are not close to being a championship contender. Maybe focus this warriors chat on what potential realistic trades can be done this year
You make good points but I think they are vastly improved defensively and can win a lot of games this year becauseof it. I’m optimistic about a playoff spot. With that thought in mind you can’t have on the job training for Moses Moody. Jackson Davis, Podski will play and JK will play. Couple other guys will be sent to the G league and play.
I said Curry will play 33 MPG and a couple hours ago Kerr announced Curry will be capped at 32 — oh no I was SOooo wronGGG!!! hahahaha
Exactly, I was just posting what everyone including Kerr says is gunna happen and everyone got super mad!!!
I disagree with you on that “it’s a range of average to solid role players” that describes the 2021-22 roster, I think this one is better than 2021-22. But you generally get how weird many posters are on here. Just mute and move on if you like, viscerally do not like someones takes, like an adult.
Who else thinks Frank Kaminsky would be a great fit for the Warriors
It crossed my mind but he’s just not good enough. Picking him for his Size Doesn’t provide the things size guys do like defend the rim or provide strength underneath, rebounding and help defense,
He’s probably a great locker room guy and can shoot a little bit but I think Q. Post who we drafted, can be even better. That kid’s stroke is nice. Sure hope he can develop a game suitable for the big club.
Was Frank able to hook on with another NBA team, or was it the Suns or nothing because his money is better overseas? Why play for the minimum if you’re not enjoying it on another NBA team?
Solid guy, but Kaminsky is not an NBA player at this point. He played in Europe last year, and I believe he’s headed back.
Q. Post is better than Kaminsky at this point.
What happened last night?? I don’t remember a thing !!
And how did my phone wind up at the Pink Poodle in San Jose? Who’s “Maserati” I think she likes me !!
What are all these charges…, “misc adult activities” on my Costco card.., where IS my Costco card ? Did the Dodgers win ?? My head hurts….
Gary youre the best poster on here – never stop!
Gary, I think I saw you at the Pink Poodle. Tall white guy wearing a Warriors #4 jersey?
Yep that was me. I was up front in the splash zone. But not a #4 jersey. Warriors number 44, Jeff Grayer.
The day started out so well. Played ball and gave the brothers some white bread, I’m talking wonder. Hit a lot of threes, Dimes, the entire package.
Then we went to the Yard House at Santana Row and then I think I lost track of time on the way back to Campbell downtown.
How my phone wound up at the pink poodle I don’t think I’ll ever know lol. And some of these messages above, wow, who would do such a thing?
How did I know that Davey was going to turn this thread into a clown show?
I simply stated the factual minutes breakdown, it was people who hate me for claiming Moody was going to be a star in this league (factual) or for thinking this GSW team is going places (also factual) who turned it stupid. They didnt even have any actual facts or reasoning, just “your take is bad because I say so” but then I go over to Dub Nation twitter or instagram and everyone agrees with me. Oh well bro, Dubs by 10!
You should run for President because what you claim as “factual” is anything but that.
Anyway, I think this is a reasonable contract for Moody. He gives me Isaac Okoro vibes. A bit better as a slasher and more versatile on offense, a bit lesser on defense. But that’s a solidly valuable rotation piece, and he’s still only 22 with room to grow. I don’t expect him to be a star or anything, but a decent regular is worth more than 13 million per year in today’s NBA, so that’s a good value signing. He’s not the best perimeter defender in the world, but still above-average, and he’s shockingly good at interior defense relative to his size (opponents shot only 54% against him within six feet of the rim, which is *way* lower than the league average of 63%, with similar drops on midrange shots as well). His ability to close out, help onto PoA targets, and limit attacking lanes is quite high-level. He fills a lot of the same roles that Wiggins does, so they have an in-house replacement for him in theory, which is good, because Wiggins looked absolutely cooked last season.
Eon what do you think about Wiggins playing at the 2 with Kuminga at the 3?
Theoretically doable, but why would you when Podski is better, both as a fit and as a player overall? I know you hate his very existence, but he’s one of their best players in actual fact. He can shoot off the catch, from pull-ups, and make passes himself to give Curry more freedom of movement to get to his spots without relying on Draymond to hit the targets in motion. Then you have guys like Hield and Melton who should get minutes at the 2 before Wiggins; excellent 3pt shooting when you need some extra juice, and GPII-esque defense. GPII should also get his spots at the 2. Wiggins as a 3 and situational 4 in small-ball lineups makes more sense. He’s more of a defensive player than a two-way weapon at this point. That’s the one area of his game where he hasn’t regressed all the way to his T-Wolves days. He can maybe slide down to the 2 should the Warriors have a situation where they’d go big, but you’d expect Moody to do that with Kuminga at the 3 and Draymond at the 4 in those spots.
Kuminga should get most of his minutes as a functional 4, since he can’t shoot consistently and is better on defense against larger, slower guys. I see him as a future full-time 3, but right now, he’s not as clean a fit there as you’d like, particularly with the modified motion offense the Warriors run nowadays. Once he gets a better handle on his 3-ball and is more defensively consistent, he’ll be a lock as a 3.
Moody as a 6th man or as the starting 3 over Wiggins, the latter being my preference, at least for now. He’s a versatile defender who can catch and shoot from everywhere and attacks well off the catch and can set up a dribble-drive on basically any mismatch. I see him as more of a tough 2-way SG, but he plays bigger than his body, so he can handle the 3.
Wiggins should be the 6th man, imo. He’s got the versatility to play multiple spots in multiple lineups, but doesn’t seem to have the juice of his 2022 or even 2023 season anymore. Maybe he’ll recover some of that spark playing against 2nd unit players, with less pressure on him.
EonADS, I agree with you that it makes no sense to play Wiggins over Podz given:
1. Podz is a better player
2. Podz is a better 3 pt shooter, which, supposedly, matters most
3. Podz is our future, only 22 years old, and Wiggins doesn’t fit.
I’m now convinced this is about trading Wiggins. You can’t trade a $28M/yr bench player.
Right !! Been the M.O. forever. Trade /dump order of preference…
Wiggins
GP
Moody
Looney
Looney not so much anymore because he showed up in Camp a different man and a different player. That’s what those exit interviews are all about.
In Looney’s case, he needed to be slimmer, quicker, and at least a modest threat on offense.
I think he has shown at least he’s trending in those directions so far in preseason. Great job by Kevon !!
WARRIORS TRADE ASSETS:
A. Long-term assets
1. Moody: 4 years, improving value
– $5M in 2024-25, $13M/yr from 2025-28
2. Hield: 3 years, established outside shooting
– $9M/yr for 3 yrs
B. Expiring contracts
1. Melton: great value at $12M for 1 year
2. Looney: experienced backup C at $8M for 1 year
3. GP2: on-ball defender, injury prone, $9M for 1 year
Im sorry but Heild/Loon/GPII are matching salary thats it.
If Steph and Dray run into each other and both are out for the rest of the season nobodys giving you anything in return for those guys other than 2nds protected down to 55 or something.
If the stars get hurt the only “assets” to sell are Melton/Anderson. All the rest are either kids your keeping or nothing but matching salary the other team wont tax you extra for since its expiring.
Chapman , it’s about “optionality”.
I wasn’t suggesting all these be combined to trade for a greater one, only that these are all tradable pieces that can be moved between now and the trade-deadline. Before signing, Moody was much less tradable.
I’m looking ahead to the trade deadline, especially at those teams that are WAY over the cap, such as Minnesota, Boston, Milwaukee, Phoenix, and the Clippers. And there will be “sellers” amongst Chicago, Washington, Brooklyn, Portland and Atlanta. Some will be exchanging big contracts for cap relief via expiring assets and future value.
From these teams, there’s been trade speculation on all these players of reported interest to the Dubs:
Naz Reid, Porzingis, Lopez, Nurkic, Zubac, Vucevic, Ayton, Capella, Valunciunas.
Also of past interest to the Dubs, these players would be acquired in trades likely requiring expiring contracts:
Brandon Ingram, Myles Turner, Jimmy Butler,
The tough thing is that if a truly great player comes available OKC/SAS can blow GSW offer out of the water
Chapman , re OKC, yeah, they have more assets by far than anybody, but I don’t believe they’d compete because:
1. Presti has said he foresees avoiding the luxury tax indefinitely (tiny market)
2. they are challenged to keep their existing personnel, with 3 monster new deals coming for SGA (will be making $30M more), JWilliams and Holmgren (will get max rookie extensions).
3. they have already demonstrated by their lack of interest in Markkanen and George that they want to build from within.
Trey Murphy, rotation player on Pels, just got rookie extension at $28M /yr for 4 years.
@aristotle leaves Wiggins out for no reason SMH
More than double the comments in this thread than all of the other extension threads combined lol. Davey J, take a bow.
Davey J said:
> @aristotle leaves Wiggins out for no reason SMH
I left Wiggins out only because he’s currently untradable. Hopefully that changes.
