One of the longest-tenured players in Warriors history switched teams this summer when Klay Thompson departed for the Mavericks. Franchise icons Stephen Curry and Draymond Green honored Thompson’s request to not go to management to try to intervene in his decision, but it finally hit them that their former long-time teammate wouldn’t be joining them this season when they got to training camp, ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk writes.
“[Klay] would usually enter the practice facility coming off of his boat,” Curry said. “With his Dockers on, whatever outfit he had on. He just had a presence about him, a lightness when he came in the room. And his one-liners were always great. … [I’m] talking about him like he died, [which is] super weird. … Life throws a lot of curve balls in sports. You’re used to seeing people change places and teams. [However] up until but a week before he decided to sign Dallas, we never really thought it was going to end.”
The Warriors added a trio of veterans to help replace Thompson’s impact from beyond the arc and on the perimeter, signing Buddy Hield, De’Anthony Melton and Kyle Anderson as free agents. Those three will compete for minutes and a spot in the starting rotation.
“One of the reasons we are excited to get Buddy Hield is because we will run some of the same stuff that we ran for Klay for Buddy,” head coach Steve Kerr said. “Draymond and Steph will be looking for him on the perimeter when they’re playing with him. And then the other new guys, Melton, Kyle Anderson — there’s a reason we targeted them too. They fit any lineup, such smart tough players that they’re easy to play with.
“So I don’t anticipate a really difficult transition basketball-wise. It’s more just the emotional void of Klay being gone after being so close with him and going through so much with him. That part is really sad. But you have to move on.”
We have more from the Warriors:
- The new-look Warriors continued their habit of hitting fast threes and playing in transition when they made 28 of their 52 attempts in a Wednesday preseason game against the Kings, ESPN’s Kendra Andrews writes. That would have been a franchise record for threes in a regular season game. The Warriors were fairly good at making outside shots a priority last season, ranking fourth in the league in attempts at 38.9 per game. But as Anthony Slater of The Athletic points out, the teams that ranked first (Boston) and second (Dallas), both reached the Finals. Slater reports that the Warriors are talking like they want to lead the league in three-point attempts. “I feel like it’s a little different in that we have more guys who can shoot the three besides Klay and Steph,” Brandin Podziemski said.
- While the on-court additions for the Warriors look strong already, new assistant coach Terry Stotts is also making his impact felt this preseason, Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area writes. Hield in particular should thrive with Stotts, who helped the Trail Blazers make the conference finals in 2019 behind hot three-point shooting from Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum. “The stuff that we’re putting in with Terry, the Portland stuff, you saw some of that in the second half,” Kerr said. “The flares, Buddy is built for that.“
- The Warriors have been cycling through several lineup combinations and possibilities in training camp and the preseason, Slater tweets. On Thursday in practice, the starters appeared to be Curry, Hield, Jonathan Kuminga, Anderson and Green. The lineup changed across both preseason games as well, with Trayce Jackson-Davis and Melton starting alongside Curry, Kuminga and Green in the first game before Kevon Looney and Podziemski took over in the second.
So glad Klay is gone
In a couple of different ways and for several reasons, yeah. I agree. But you can’t make that statement right now without also giving due credit to Klay Thompson.
The Warriors don’t win four rings without Klay Thompson. Steph Curry is not as effective the last 10 years without Klay Thompson. Those are facts. The man’s Jersey will be hanging from the rafters one day soon.
Give it a month or two when Klay is established with the Mavericks and he won’t look weird with a different Jersey on, and then you can say that we’re glad he’s gone without the qualifier.
In fact I think the Mavericks come to town in November, so a standing ovation and video highlights and then it’s time to move on mentally.
With all respect to Klay he would have been a good 6th man off the bench but he didn’t want that so he moved on. Klay can still shoot the ball so let’s wait and see who makes more 3s Klay or Heild?
Its fascinating how the warriors parted with him and were barely a play in and dallas added him in hopes he is the final piece.
Think the warriors speeding up tempo is smart. It’s tough to project them cause they didn’t look great to end the season and also have completely retooled.
They don’t win 4 without Klay…but you could argue they would have won 5-7 had they traded him a few years back and got someone decent in return.
If you’re a Warriors fan that is just so disrespectful and unappreciative on so many levels.
Klay deserves all the respect and admiration in the world from Golden State fans. He might not have been what he once was, but he still deserves you and every other fan’s respect and well wishes.
What that man did for that franchise is nothing short of historical and once in a lifetime type of accomplishments on the court. Also, if I had to guess, I’d say he most likely had a huge impact off the court in the Golden State area as well.
It is like GaryWarriorsRedSoxx said, without Klay Thompson, the Warriors do not have multiple NBA Titles. Without Klay, Stephen Curry never realizes his full potential. Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, that is just the cold, hard TRUTH!
Idiotic comment. Klay isn’t bad, he’s just a bench shooter now – like Kyle Korver was in his last few years. I will embrace him when he comes back for his final year or two with GSW.
Curry already reminiscing the good ole days with that quote… and regular season hasn’t even started. Like Barkley said, Dubs are cooked.
He’s literally referencing the clothes Klay used to wear.
As you state, the regular season hasn’t even started yet. I think it’s okay to reminisce about a 12-year teammate who you won multiple championships with in training camp. No problem at all.
Let the regular season start before you criticize a guy for reminiscing about a teammate.
Umm…Huh? Klay wasn’t much of a factor when they won their last ring. The Warriors FO decided to move on after their last ring. Klay is not in the present. So, any talk of him is reminiscing. Klay loves sailing. There is a dock right across the street from the Chase Center. Obviously, you wear different clothes when sailing.
Barkley is the same guy who said they will never win a championship with Curry. They won 4. Same guy who said they had 0 chance of beating the Celtics. If he was your stock broker you would have lost all your money going by his advice.
I’ve Been Waiting for a Warrior’s article to pop up so I can say exactly this after watching Wednesday’s preseason game versus the kings.
Moses Moody sucks.
I am on the side Moody will be traded some time this season. I just don’t see the minutes for him.
Moody was great actually. I’ve Been Waiting for a Warrior’s article to pop up so I can say exactly this after watching Wednesday’s preseason game versus the kings.
Brandin Podziemski cannot score in this league and is a strict 1 and never a SG in this league. Maybe Euro league. He can run the floor and pass but that’s it. Nightmare-level defense is played when Podz-Curry is on the court, we got slaughtered.
Moody sucked when Kerr made him play the 3, but he was excellent when moved to the 2. Gary you have something personal against Moody, I dont know why. Moody is going to be a star in this league if Kerr stops playing him at the 3. Kerr played 3 smalls AGAIN in this game and it worked because all the 3s went in, but it won’t work in the regular season with regular rotations.
I don’t want to see these players ever play out of position all year, and these are the positions they should only play:
Curry = strict 1
Podz = strict 1
Buddy= strict 2
Moody = strict 2
Payton = strict 2
Melton = 1/2
Waters = 2/3
Kuminga = strict 3
Wiggins = strict 3
Anderson = 5/4
Loon = 5/4
TJD = 5/4
Dray = 5/4/3/1
Davey, Moody is too slow to play the 2. Both offensively and defensively.
If you watched the game, you would see how many times Moody was trailing behind his assigned one-on-one guy as they strolled to the basket for a layup. Then you also saw Moody on offense never able to beat his man one on one nor pushing the ball up the floor at full speed.
He jogs out there. He’s slow out there. He’s tentative, indecisive, and a liability.
The couple good things I saw were a nice three-point shot in the corner that he nailed while getting fouled, and I think he had a couple layups or put backs near the basket.
On defense he stayed in front of his man driving in the lane one time that I remember. Other than that, the center had to come over and help out on another Drive leaving the postman open for a tip in.
I have nothing personal against Moses Moody. In fact I think he’s a great kid. He works hard. But he doesn’t have it.
Heck even Buddy Hield, who isn’t quick at all, pushed the ball up the floor on breaks as did JK and Melton. Podski also. Moody? Jogging as usual. I don’t think I saw him SPRINT a single time.
Davey we’ll see you here again tomorrow after tonight’s Kings game? Go Warriors !!
Gary, every word of this is a lie and you should feel bad for lying. Slow???? No. Wrong. Just…you are wrong and are also lying at this point. No one thinks this about Moody anywhere else online, its so wild you hate him so much. He had a rough stretch in a preseason game where he was forced to play the 3, when he excels as a strict 2. Thats the reason he was rough for a couple mins in that preseason game that you want to destroy his career over.
But “slow”? You have no argument here at all. No one else thinks this. I am going to back away slowly. You shall eat these words as will all of this random pocket of Moody-haters online.
And don’t lie: you DO hate him. You have never said one nice thing about him but you sure love racking up losses with Podzi!
NO mins for Podzi!
YES mins for Moody!
One other small thing but a huge error on your part. Gary Payton has NEVER been a 2. He is a “strict” 3 maybe even a 4 at times during small ball. But that’s pretty rare.
He’s definitely not a 2. He has no handles, he has no vision, he has no dribble drive to beat his 2 for a layup. He is a 3 and D 95% of his time on the floor.
Defensively he like many other guys can guard multiple positions. In fact Payton is so good he can defend the other team’s best player from the 1 to the 3.
Okay while I’m here also your proclamation of Curry and podski as strict ones is incorrect also. When they’re on the floor together, either player will be the 2. They are interchangeable. That’s an effective weapon strategy in its own right. Both can handle and both can shoot.
link to basketball-reference.com
Whats under his positions, Gary?
At various times he has been able to play the 3, but injuries have decimated him to at this point in his career, he’s a SG. He was literally shooting the ball so well last year, he’s a SG – its where he’s at in his career. He might be PG too, but Podz is like the non-broken version of GP2, so he will get those mins instead.
While we are on GP2, it appears many, including Kerr and posters in here, seem to think he is still him at his best, but he has been injured every single year of his career and at age 32 this year, we gotta temper expectations. Kerr must stop using him as a 3 and 4, that one year where he consistently played bigger than his size was an aberration, not his normal. He shouldn’t be taking playing time from any of the younger players, he should be used as a pure depth piece and rarely-used in the opening months. He can shoot and play D vs guards, but not bigs. His body is simply too destroyed to be counted on for major minutes or being able to go bodies with 6’10” guys.
If you think GP2 is ahead of Moody on any depth charts, you are plainly and clearly smoking PCP.
I think I might have a new nickname for you Davey. Mr. Strawman.
I don’t think I, or anyone here for that matter, ever suggested Payton was ahead of Moody on the depth chart. In fact several of us have said that Gary Payton is definitely trade bait with that huge salary of his.
But this is a fabrication from out of left field… “If you think GP2 is ahead of Moody on any depth charts, you are plainly and clearly smoking PCP.”
Really this is your infamous hyperbole plus Mr. Strawman rolled into one sentence.
Well I must say this sure has been fun burning an entire morning going back and forth about Moody and others. Don’t think it hasn’t been fun, because it hasn’t been.
Gary,
“If you think GP2 is ahead of Moody on any depth charts, you are plainly and clearly smoking PCP.”
Ok, but you are arguing no one is doing this, and you might be correct, although Aristotle definitely has put GP2 on his depth charts and leaving Moody off them entirely – THAT is the big lie/potential PCP smoker.
Davey J, you misrepresent me with this straw-man:
> although Aristotle definitely has put GP2 on his depth charts
> and leaving Moody off them entirely – THAT is the big
> lie/potential PCP smoker.
As you know, because I’ve reminded you >10 times, I personally favor playing Moody over GP2. I sit between you & Gary here.
In the past, I believe Kerr has played GP2 over Moody when both were available. That’s my interpretation (which you’re free to differ with) of the data.
Calling my interpretation a “lie” and/or a due to my being a “PCP smoker” feels uncharacteristic of your, otherwise, keen insights and grace.
When teams have tried to play Gary Payton at the 2 or even the 1 he was cut. He can’t play the 1 and he can’t play the 2. He didn’t start a regular NBA career until he was 29 years old. He played out of position up to that point.
It wasn’t till he started playing the three plus his lock down defense that he made the team and was actually a huge part of winning. I don’t care what basketball reference says.
Moody with a +8 and 9 points in 20 mins = sucks
Podz with a +7 and 8 points in 23 mins = HOF-bound
“10 man rotation” lol no one uses these until the playoffs…Nov-Jan games use full bench rotations plus 2W guys. Odds of GSW keeping this roster the same the whole year? ehh about 50/50
Davey,
Are you interested in seeing the statistical data that NBA teams rarely use more than 10 man rotations in the regular season? 9 is most common. In the playoffs, it moves to 8-9.
It’s statistically inaccurate or say that teams use longer rotations in the early season.
Playing in place of an injured player doesn’t count, nor does playing in garbage time.
@aristotle – can you please adjust your settings so I can reply to you? You have me soft blocked on here, yet my name is always in your mouth. Either unblock, or act like I dont exist, but please pick one.
Davey , I believe there are bugs in the software for this board. I too am often, but not always, unable to respond to your posts.
I am not blocking you in my settings, although I was a couple of months ago. Still, your posts sometimes disappear, only to return later. And, sometimes the “Reply” link beneath your posts shows and sometimes it does not.
I have seen users of this software on the NFL boards complaining about this.
Davey, your player analysis leaves a little something to be desired. I don’t think Brandin Podziemski is Hall of Fame Bound by any means. That’s a stretch don’t you think?
Or are you using hyperbole again to insinuate I or anyone else suggested that Podski is somehow an all-star? No one said that. No one even hinted at that. You’re hyperbole is tiresome at least to me personally.
Of course many use exaggerated yet untrue claims to justify their own opinions and help their own cause. You’re not doing that are you?
Really? You sure do love him and hate Moody on an absurdist/hyperbolic level pretty often in here. Moody is not “slow” literally no one says that. Perhaps his adjustment to playing with Looney in the game for a couple plays made you think that, but its absurd to call Moses Moody slow for any reason. But also, being “fast” doesnt mean “good” either.
His writing is like a 10 year old fan trapped in an adults body. His takes are sooooooo bad….
Chap, not sure if you mean me or Davey but you could probably say “both” lol.
Chap doesnt even have takes, just takes on others takes – the worst kind of poster – the pure hater.
Chap , I like your takes quite a bit, but you should be kinder to 10 year olds.
@aristotle I was but they are just so bad, and he gets sooooo mad when you correct him at all. This as hes proposing things that dont even work cap wise and stuff
You clowns were so wrong and I was so right about Moody. You just hate me because I know ball better than you. Mute me if you hate my takes so much!
Well Davey it looks like you are right and I was wrong. Moody had a really nice game last night.
You’ll notice they played him a lot of minutes to see what he had and he came through and scored and went to the line. Both are good things.
So now what do the Warriors do with him? Do they give him a 25 or 30 million dollar per year extension before October 21st? Or they let the season ride out and he becomes a restricted free agent?
2-3 yr for $12m per
MIchol , $12M is too much for these reasons:
1. Davey’s evaluation may count for a lot to those who matter, but there is no precedent for a player with Moody’s stats over his first 3 years getting an extension > $6M/yr.
2. Moody is going to be compensated by any team for the role he’s expected to fill: a rotation player in the 8-10 slots. Consider that Buddy Hield and GP2 make $8M /yr, Melton makes $12M.
3. A rookie extension doesn’t give the Warriors any preferential right to Moody’s services after the 2-3 year term elapses. That means the Warriors have no interest in paying Moody more than the value he’ll provide during the term of the contract.
Davey , my position has been constant: the Warriors will extend Moody at about $6-7M/yr for 2 or 3 years. That’s what rotation player in the 8-10 slot makes. (Hield and GP2, for example, make $8M/yr.)
A signed contract is in the interest of both Moody and the Warriors. The Warriors extend ownership of an asset they can either play or trade. If Moody is retained, that means he’s wanted, and the Warriors will adjust the roster to use him. Likewise, if traded, the acquiring team intends to play him.
$7M for 3 years may seem disappointing relative to Moody’s expectations on draft day, but at this point Moody just wants an opportunity to play, and hopes that he can improve his value in time for the next contract.
Last week you said $5m… I can assure you that negotiation starts no less than $10m per.
That’s the mkt… it iis what it is. Moody probably wants 4 yr $50m.
Michol, that probably sounds about right for Moody. I can’t imagine the Warriors or another team giving him more?
But you never know. If he hits restricted free agency and the Warriors haven’t really played him much there could be a team that pays him 15 or 17 on potential.
Dubs would lose him in that scenario because I think what you suggest here is the most that the Warriors would probably offer him. I guess we wait and see? We’ve been surprised before and will be surprised again.
Michol said:
> I can assure you that negotiation starts no less than $10m per.
> That’s the mkt…. Moody probably wants 4 yr $50m.
Michol, the comps say otherwise. Let’s start with Aaron Nesmith & Saddiq Bey, both with much better records than Moody.
Aaron Nesmith, Indiana, 14th pick, 1st round, 2020
– 2022-23 : games/started: 73/60, mpg: 25 , 3p% 37, ppg: 10.1
– extension: 3 yrs , $11M/yr
Sadiiq Bey, Atlanta, 19th pick, 1st round 2020
– 2022-23: games/started: 77/37, mpg: 28 , 3p% 36, ppg: 14.9
– extension: 3 yrs , $6.4M/yr
Moses Moody, GSW, 14th pick, 1st round, 2021
-2023-24: games/started: 66/99, mpg: 17 , 3p% 36, ppg: 8.1
– extension ??
Note that both Nesmith and Bey, unlike Moody, were full-time starters in their third season, and projected to start the next season. Moody has not been a starter, nor is projected to start this season.
Sam Hauser provides an interesting datapoint as a recently signed rotation (not starting), shooting guard. After shooting 43%, 42%, and 43% in his first 3 seasons, Hauser was just given a 4 year deal contract starting at $10M/yr.
That’s how I get $6M, or half of your $12M number for Moody.
Podz = HoF come on bro maybe 1:1000 smoke the blunt after you comment on HR
Wheres that Wiggins trade you promised us would happen before the season?
Prove my point some more why dont you? Still not seeing any original takes by you, just pure hate.
Wheres ANY of your original takes, at all? None found. Easily worst poster in here. Why even bother? Get lost kid.
“sucks” is pretty strong, but he certainly didn’t help himself on Wednesday. Increasingly, it appears he’s gone soon.
If I had to call it now, GP2 and Moody have fallen out of the 10-man rotation because Melton and Hield are so clearly superior at those roles.
10 man rotation:
PG: Steph + Podz
SG: Melton + Hield
SF: Kuminga + Wiggins
PF: Draymond + Anderson
C: TJD + Looney
Also:
Melton will play some PG
Podz will play some SG
Kuminga will play some PF
Draymond & Anderson will play some small-ball C
Looney used sparingly
Jonathan Kuminga looks real good. I think he’s on his way to being a key part of the starting lineup.
His shot looks good, he’s pushing the ball from the wing, and he’s playing with definite purpose.
There’s a good chance the Warriors offer him a hefty extension before October 21st. It might not be the max of course so he may reject it, but it’ll be a good dollar amount and it may benefit him greatly to go ahead and sign now.
Gary , re: Kuminga, I’m not a fan of Kerr having him take so many threes… 7 in 20 minutes is 2x as many as I’d like. He can help the offense most by balancing that with attacking the basket.
Also, as you know, I believe that this idea that he has formally demanded the max is silly. If that were the case, there wouldn’t be ongoing negotiations, as has been reported.
Guys, I’m gonna stick with my prediction from a few days ago. No extensions. Play out the season and see how the league values them. If JK has a big year, and another team values him highly, offers the money he wants now, then match it. Ari, I don’t know that jk demanded max, but I’m sure I read that he feels he deserves it…or words to that effect. So again, no extensions. Remind me I said this Gary when jk gets his extension lol. Btw, I do like Moody. He played well in Clipper game BUT there must be a reason, that Kerr has him
so far down the pecking order. And yes, he is a little late on plays.
I swear to god this is the only place on the internet that is SO down on Moody, he literally had a better game than Podz but we dont hear about how Podz is “definitely gone after the game” lol
Claude Raymond,
> Ari, I don’t know that jk demanded max, but I’m
> sure I read that he feels he deserves it…
> or words to that effect.
First, we are in agreement that the Warriors intend to sign Kuminga. We are not in agreement that the Warriors want to wait to do so. My argument is that no NBA team in this position wants to wait until the end of the season because of the risk that the player becomes unaffordable. The Charlotte Hornets or Utah Jazz may be able to offer Kuminga $50M per year because they have the cap space, whereas the Warriors can’t.
I believe we read the same things, but likely with a different perspective. First, players almost never mention these numbers themselves. Their agents do. And agents always instruct their players, especially the young ones, NEVER to answer questions about contract negotiations directly. I’ve seen several live interviews with Kuminga, both regarding his agent’s statement last season that he didn’t think he could play for Kerr, and lately about the timing and size of his contract. In ALL cases he has avoided addressing the specifics, and made only benign comments. I’m quite certain Kuminga himself has never said this, and that, like all pro athletes, he’s letting his agent do the talking.
Agents are the source of the vast majority of “leaks” about contract discussions.
Its so funny going to like, any other corner of the internet, be it the Warriors instagram, twitter or reddit, and no one stans Podz/hates Moody as much as the 5 of you do on here. Its almost like a gang. So weird. You guys all know ball otherwise, but are so wrong about these 2 dudes. If you were right, GSW would have been a top 4 team last year because Podz got most of the mins, but we didnt start really winning late in the year until Podz lost his starting spot back to Klay and Moody. Podz is nothing more than a backup PG but Kerr and you 5 seem to think he’s the next Lebron James. Moody had a rough couple of mins playing with Looney but was totally fine otherwise, also its preseason, Steph has stunk for long stretches too and Dray misses passes etc. Weirdest thing to have to read in my daily online perusal of NBA-related stuff. Just thought Id say it.
Davey I can’t speak for the other guys but I appreciate your opinions. Mine are no better than yours, everyone knows that.
Keep it coming and I’ll see you here after putting my magnifying glass on Moses Moody tonight.
You know he’s going to get major, major minutes to try and prove himself before October 21st extension deadline.
If he does NOT get big minutes tonight it means the Warriors have already decided that he’s done. No chance for extension and he’ll be on the first plane out via trade.
So look for his minutes tonight to tell where the Warriors are with Moses Moody.
Gary, you are putting too much on this. No, even if Moody stinks tonight he isn’t “done”. Melton + GP2 arent going to last – theyre injury prone and Buddy goes cold for weeks at a time, so Moody is an excellent depth to keep around and is cheap. He will likely get 20 mins tonight, as will Podz, Buddy and Milton – that appears to be Kerr’s breakdown of their playing time early on. Steph will eat into that as he gets more mins than 16. I can see them all getting 15-25 MPG for the first couple months and whoever plays the best with Steph/Dray/JK will get more mins, pretty simple. We have the pieces, we have the parts, one thing we CAN agree on is that this is looking like a more fun year than last!
Pre-season camp means mouse-nuts as an indication for future playing time as compared to previous seasons’ performance and the size of a team’s contractual commitment.
Hield & Melton will play before Moody because we acquired & are paying them to take a key roles.
Podz will play before Moody because (in the minds of the only people that count) he’s proven to be a vastly superior player in the past. Period.
@aristotle
Even though you still refuse to remove my name from your mute list and therefore I cannot reply directly to you, I will do this just because its to laugh at how wrong and bad your anti-Moody/pro-Podz takes are. Its not even 1 day old and its already aged like milk.
Moody is our best pure 2, and our most consistent non-Curry scorer. That is the reality.
Moses Moody is about to make many commenters in these comments sections look REALLY bad and me really good, haha
Davey, Here you go again with the “straw-man”.
I’ve NEVER made an “anti-Moody” post. I’ve ALWAYS maintained:
1. I’d play Moody over GP2 and Hield.
2. Kerr favors Podz, Melton and Hield over Moody. That’s based on the data, not my opinion.
I’ve seen NOTHING to change my mind on the above.
This is interesting, here’s the top 15 minutes played guys on the 2022 title team:
Wiggins 2330
Poole 2283
Curry 2211
Looney 1732
Otto 1396
Dray 1329
Lee 1256
GP2 1248
Kuminga 1185
Bjelica 1143
JTA 994
Klay 941
Moody 607
Iggy 603
Chiozza 372
Its crazy to look at that roster and see the level of talent Curry carried to the title, this years roster is inherently better than 2021-22 by a long way.
In the Finals vs Boston they used a main 8 of Wiggins, Klay, Curry, Dray, Looney, Poole, Otto and GP2 with Bjelica getting 93 mins in the 6 games as the 9th guy.
I also want to re-point out how incredible it was for MDJ to get Buddy and Slomo for Klay, a second rounder, and cash. He orchestrated that 6 team deal and half the teams just traded picks and money…genius move, maybe the one that shaped this teams immediate future better than any other.
If Melton’s fully healthy (big if) they wont be able to keep him off the floor, he just makes too many winning plays
This creates a kinda conundrum for Kerr tho with Podz as you cant play Curry Podz and Melton all together. This team is small even for GSW who knows how to do small. Really missing the Iggy wing on the defensive side, going to be a nightly problem in the West where we are filled with Big 3 wings. Without Vando my Lakers are in the exact same boat today, going to get abused on the elbows in quick sets and give even bad opposing coaches a viable scheme to exploit nightly rather easily
If Melton is healthy he will be getting a lot of minutes because his defense will keep Heild and Curry both on the floor at the same time. Wiggins better watch it because his court time will get cut if Melton plays that f great defense.
Yes arc, and if he makes threes like last game, all the more to keep him on the floor.
Moody is going to get more mins than Melton, yall are just clueless its funny
Cap great post. I’m still hoping Wiggins is that guy who defends on the wing.
He’s really the only option, I don’t see JK as that guy (yet/If ever)
Cap & Crunch – basically this is what I have said, with the exception of Melton being injury prone and not able to go 30+ a game. But Podz+Curry cannot exist at the same time on the court, we get destroyed on defense every time, they are too small a duo to play together. Moody and Curry is the winning 2-1 but adding Melton to that mix is also too small. Moody is our best pure 2, a calm, confident scorer who just puts points on the board every game, unlike Podz.
Davey , A LOT of work, by a LOT of people in the front office, typically with many months of prior discussions, go into those multi-team trades.
Dunleavy should get his share of credit, but the idea that individual GM’s are transactional geniuses is a bit misled in 2024.
This team doesn’t have enough star power…
But they have enough shooting… Just…
A trade deadline trade or 2 could make this team a contender…
Yes they’re pretty solid all around but solid doesn’t get you anywhere in the West today. They need one more “guy.” One more “him.”
Contender? Lol.
Play in team at best and doesnt matter what they do at deadline. We need to gather assets, get off the luxury tax, and rebuild.
