Ja Morant has suffered a posterior hip subluxation (without dislocation) along with multiple associated Grade 1 pelvic muscle strains, the Grizzlies announced (via Twitter). His status is considered week-to-week.
The announcement states that Morant was injured in the third quarter of Wednesday’s game against the Lakers. He was “destabilized” in midair, causing him to fall into “extreme right hip flexion.”
Morant had to leave that game in the third quarter after a hard landing on an attempted alley-oop, per Damichael Cole of The Commercial Appeal. He sat out Friday’s win over Washington and was seen using crutches, Cole adds.
Cole notes that this is Morant’s third injury issue since the start of training camp. He had a mild ankle sprain during the preseason and missed an earlier regular season game with soreness in his right thigh.
Morant is off to a strong start after a 25-game suspension and a shoulder injury wiped out virtually his entire 2023/24 season. He’s averaging 20.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 9.1 assists in eight games, and Memphis is 5-3 with him in the lineup.
Scotty Pippen Jr. made his first start of the season Friday night and figures to remain in that role while Morant is sidelined. He posted a triple-double with 11 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds in 28 minutes.
People seemed to be acting like he missed last year with a suspension only when they talked about the Griz being back, but most of the season was to injury just like most of his other seasons when hes missed significant time. Cool highlights and lots of injuries for this style of play…
Grizzlies are such a sad team anymore. Bane got his extension, but is made of glass. Jackson is injury prone. Ja apparently is injury prone regardless of his attitude problems. Marcus Smart is made of glass. I would be selling all those guys off for picks and some players that can actually endure the game. I grew up during the good Grizzlies teams so it’s hard to have 5 Rudy Gay’s on the team now.
Agree but it’s weird because it seems like there’s a ton of injuries this year. Not even lately like the last couple of years, but this particular season seems hard hit with guys going down.
I wonder if anyone will ever be able to pinpoint a Common Thread or reason behind this?
Are guys working out, lifting too much or too often? Or, I remember in the old days every single player would be stretching out on the floor near midcourt before the game. You hardly see that anymore except for the guys coming back from something like a hammy or whatever. I wonder if that’s it? Someone else said Hot Yoga lol. Causes an unusual strain on the body?
Could be. It is unusual this year so far for sure!
Just watched all of Ja’s highlights of this season, and yeah, in almost all of them he is twisting and turning in the middle of the air, he cant be constantly putting himself in those awkward positions so many times every game and not expect to get hurt. Stop playing like Russ on meth and just make the bucket, Ja
So sad that both Zion and Ja have become injury riddle players. There are 2 of the most exciting players to watch and they are really great.
Exciting, but not practical. Other players master the game in a way that doesn’t kill their bones. I’d also question their regimen.
That was some injury description. It’s not as good as how they hid Kristops injury, but it is close.
Ja is going to have to learn to become an on the floor player and use his hops a lot more selectively.
He is looking at about arthritis of the hips if he’s not careful. The oblique muscles having to activate in a way that helps support the pelvic carriage is a bad thing.
He is not going to be able to do all that unreal acrobatic twisting and crunching in mid air like he is now if he expects to play more than he is hurt from now on out.
