The hits keep coming for the Sixers, who held the NBA’s worst record entering action on Friday and are once again missing star center Joel Embiid.
Embiid, who was ruled out for Friday’s game vs. Brooklyn due to left knee injury management, is dealing with swelling in that left knee, the team announced this evening (Twitter link). Upon consultation with their medical staff, the Sixers have decided Embiid will also sit out Sunday’s matchup with the Clippers.
There will be another update early next week on the former MVP, who is receiving treatment, according to the club. The 76ers’ next game after Sunday is on Wednesday against Houston.
While there’s no indication at this point that Embiid’s latest setback will result in a lengthy absence, it’s another blow to a team that has fallen well short of expectations so far this season and would like to start digging out of its 2-12 hole sooner rather than later.
Paul George is also out through at least Sunday due to a bone bruise in his left knee. Both Embiid and George were affected earlier in the season by the same health issues currently plaguing them. George missed the first five games of the fall, while Embiid was unavailable for the first nine contests, in part due to his knee injury and in part due to a three-game suspension.
Guerschon Yabusele earned his second start of the season on Friday with Embiid inactive.
This league has to prepare to lose both Kawhi and Embiid to early retirements due to bad knees.
Embid just signed 3 yr $193m extension
Gonna be more than that.
Soon…Lebron, Chris Paul, KD, Embiid, Kawhi, Al Horford, etc. will be retiring. KD a little longer, but the league is changing. Some of the NBA staples of 2010-2020 will be gone.
Sadly Steph too in 5 years.
Really snuck Al Horford in there, huh.
Shocking
At this point just tell us when he is available.
Never
It’s a shame… damaged goods now.
Embiid is one of the best centers in the game. That being said I’d trade him for as much as I could right now.
They will still talk about “getting Joel and PG healthy for the playoffs” when they are 6-25.
That involves going 4-13. Considering they have zero regulation wins, I’m not even sure if that is a record they achieve.
Dude is becoming Ben Simmmons with the nonchalant attitude. Will he ever play 70 games???? Clippers of the east process, would be wise to trade him.
Hey, don’t offend Ben Simmons like that!
Some of the swelling in his head must’ve leaked down to his knee
Must’ve practiced his flopping a bit too hard.
Shocked…
Embiid has always said that a training coach taught him to always flop – to prevent any injuries.
Looks like he got really bad advise.
