The Sixers held a team meeting on Monday night following a loss to Miami. About 12 hours later, details of that meeting – including the fact that Tyrese Maxey called out teammate and friend Joel Embiid – had been published by ESPN. Embiid wasn’t happy about the fact that someone in the team’s locker room turned around and immediately leaked details of those discussions to the media.
“Whoever leaked that is a real piece of s–t,” Embiid said on Wednesday, per Gina Mizell of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
“We talked about a lot of things (during the meeting),” Embiid continued. “I don’t want to get into the details, but that whole thing (with Maxey) probably took 30 seconds. But then again, it’s Joel Embiid, so we’ve got to make everything blown out of proportion. It’s whatever. I’ll take it all. I’m the reason for everything, so I’ll take the blame for everything.”
Maxey reportedly challenged Embiid to be on time for team activities and functions, suggesting that the star center’s tendency to be late “for everything” set a bad example for the rest of the club. Embiid’s comments on Wednesday were a response to a reporter’s question about his friendship with Maxey and their willingness to hold each other accountable.
“That’s the relationship we have — nothing malicious,” Embiid said, according to Mizell. “I like when people are telling me what I’m not doing good, what I need to do better. Even though that part (the tardiness) maybe happened once or twice, when I wasn’t playing. … So I need to be better. I need to be perfect. I need to be on point, which I’m going to do. Which I’ve always done.”
After their 2-11 start, the Sixers had their full “big three” – Embiid, Maxey, and Paul George – available for Wednesday’s game vs. Memphis. Embiid also had his best outing of the season so far, pouring in 35 points and grabbing 11 rebounds as he continues to round into his usual All-NBA form following an early-season injury absence.
However, Philadelphia lost for a fifth time in a row and the 10th time in its last 11 games to fall to 2-12. To make matters worse, George exited early due to a knee injury. According to Embiid, the Sixers were able to implement some of the on-court adjustments they discussed in Monday’s meeting, but still aren’t playing like they want to be.
“We talked about a bunch of stuff (in the meeting),” Embiid said. “At times, we executed what we talked about, and at times, we didn’t. Right now, we don’t have a lot of margin for error, so we need to be perfect in everything we do on both ends of the floor.”
Ladies and gentlemen, your 2023 NBA MVP
Awwww, poor lil Joel.
Embiid is softer than the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.
I tried to think of the most harmless thing. Something I loved from my childhood. Something that could never ever possibly destroy us.
Might as well just tank and reload for next season. Embiid season ending injury coming soon.
He’s already day-to-day from a bruised ego
Would need to pray they don’t fall out of the Top-6
Kyle Lowry set the meeting.
Kyle Lowry leaked the details of said meeting.
Being omniscient must be cool.
Anyone familiar with the Streisand effect?
Yup… Wooo, wooo, wooo-ooh, wooo, wooo, wooo-ooh…. Wooo, wooo, wooo-ooh, wooo, wooo, wooo…Barbra Streisand
nunzio1749 imagine being so insecure about your skills everyone has to bow to you if i was Maxey I’d be demanding a trade to somewhere i can win
At least he accepts his share of blame…
But seriously, if this dude has been regularly showing up late, why did it take a dozen plus games into a lost season (so far) for someone to call him out?
I guess they were all just trusting the process until now..?
how he accepting his share of the blame when he lies about saying “he was only late once or twice?”
I don’t know if he’s really taking the blame. In the same breath that he says “I’ll take the blame for everything” he’s saying that everything with him is blown out of proportion and calling a teammate (the leaker) a “piece of sh*t”. He’s also downplaying being late by saying it was only “once or twice”.
My lack of sincerity in my opening statement clearly did not translate.
lmao, I apologize. I didn’t pick up on the sarcasm.
No need for that. I just figured when I started the next sentence with ‘But seriously’ it was kinda obvious.
That said, don’t EVER let it happen again!
The Process is dead, long live the Process.
Every year we have to hear about how amazing the Sixers will be. Every year they reload and fail miserably. The Sixers never learn.
Where is Hinkie now?
lmfao calling ur teammate a piece of s**t is crazy. he tryna get outta there
Reminds me of the Warriors and Draymond punching Poole. Pointing to the leak being the problem instead of the substance of the meeting is deflection.
76ers are entering the beginning phase where other teams smell blood and don’t want to be looked at as the team who let them off the hook. Much like Detroit last year. Philly is going to get each teams best effort unless they can will themselves out of the losing. And I know if the 76ers are getting high effort resistance every night they play, Embiid won’t want to deal with it and take himself out for the season very soon.
Exactly!!!
Weak sauce from jock egos…
trust the PROCESSED CHEESE to give you gas
clearly on his way to the Warriors soon..
Warriors wouldn’t take this bum and his energy. They already have one huge personality with Draymond.
For this exact reason I would prefer us to go after Giannis if Embid wants to be a member of a franchise like the Warriors he is going to have to seriously change his shitty attitude about everything is somebody else’s fault and he is amazing and blah blah blah. He’s so immature and defensive, that shit isn’t gonna fly around Draymond and Kerr and curry. Also compared to Giannis he might be a little bit more talented but Giannis is always healthy for the most part and he plays a little bit more of a downhill fast pace, move the ball style that would fit better in their system compared to embid who needs to play around with the ball in order to get into a scoring rhythm. Giannis gets lots of points from pubacks alley oops and transition striding. He also likes to have quick plays where he catches the ball and immediately attacks the rim and if there’s nothing there, he tries to draw a double team and pass, which is why he averages more assists than Embid as well. Embid might not fit in golden state because of his slow, one on one back to the basket style of play where he can sometimes plug up the flow with the offense because the ball isn’t moving around, he’s just holds onto the ball and stands there for like 5 seconds and takes shot after shot at the end of the shot clock and he doesn’t get down the court for a transition a lot either. Giannis is also way more consistent and has actually proved himself in the playoffs and won a championship unlike Embid, but Embid would be second on the list, probably. I’m thinking a package of ye Kuminga+trace Jackson Davis+Moody+Andrew Wiggins and then add in as many 1st round pics as we’re allowed to send probably like four firsts we might have to f***ing throw in Podzemski as well but hopefully not I really like him. if Kuminga got to play big minutes on a bad team and kind of be more of the first or second option for someone, he will turn into somebody who averages at least 20 points a game right off the bat and potentially will be an All-Star. Trace Jackson Davis in a year or two when he gets into his prime will average like 18 points and 12 rebounds in his sleep. Moody is never going to be anything special but if he keeps improving his shot and everything else he could definitely turn into a 15 point game three and D guy who is like a decent starter. it hurts to have to say goodbye to those three guys just like that but at the end of the day as a warrior fan I realize that Steph Curry is 37 years old. Draymond Green is also getting old and it would be nice to be able to watch Kuminga develop into an All-Star and Jackson Davis turn into a top 10 center with us, but we don’t have time, we need to be trying to win a championship in these next three years and maximize the very end of curry and Green cuz in 3 to 4 years Stephen Curry is gonna be gone! Once that happens, it doesn’t really matter if we have Kuminga and trace Jackson Davis on the roster we will be an Irrelevant franchise just like that so since that’s gonna happen either way, let’s just empty out the whole clip for these next few years and if we need to rebuild and suck as a team for a few years after a curry retires but we got another championship or two with Giannis and Curry I will take that. If we don’t win a chip for curry in these next few years because we were too scared to trade kuminga and trace because “they are the future” I’ll be pissed. Screw the future, curry is one of the best basketball players to ever live, do whatever you can to maximize his last few years! As for the last piece of the deal Wiggins is who he is which isn’t anything amazing he definitely didn’t live up to what everybody thought he was gonna be but at the end of the day he is going to be needed in the trade as far as matching up another salary with Giannis and he is a decent defender and a decent offensive player. You just can’t expect him to be anything more than what he is, but overall, I feel like those 3 young players plus Wiggins and a bunch of picks would get it done to get Giannis or Embiid whichever one ends up getting traded. if we get embed, we have a chance to win a championship if Embiid can take better care of his body and stay healthy and also adjust and mature as a player in the locker room with the media and on the court in order to win a championship, there would be no stopping him and the Warriors. if he can learn to dribble a little bit less and be more efficient with this scoring and is healthy and not always complaining about some shit he could be one of the best centers to ever play. He is arguably the most talented center ever to play he is a great defender as well, it’s all there It’s just all mental.. if we trade for Yiannis on the other hand that is in my opinion a almost GARUNTEED championship if not more than one championships because Giannis fits perfect and seamlessly and he already knows how to lead a team to a championship and be a leader off the court as opposed to a locker room problem so it would just be wayy more ideal if we got Giannis.
More like on his way to blazers, Pacers or jazz…
What a ship wreck! When your franchise leader is a big wanker, the rest should be prepared to take the hits. The Nurse will be scapegoated.
As a Celtics fan who has long enjoyed watching Embiid implode I was amazed when this team was considered a legitimate threat pre-season. I am much more amused now. Dude should spend more time on the court and less time whining and assualitng people.
The more Embiid talks, the worse he looks. His own worst enemy.
As usual Embiid channeling his energy in the wrong directions. Some just never get it.
This guy has issues ‘blame you for everything, everything is always my faul’
Wow….thats as far as I got. I dont want to read anymore quotes from this guy. You threw Brett Brown, Ben Simmons and Doc Rivers under the bus not to mention all the injury excuses after getting bounced early, AGAIN. little wonder the walls feel like they’re closing in on you. Obviously I’m not from philly but an outsider looking in. Looks to me work ethic, effort, hustle are strong attributes required to keep the philly fans happy. That’s the opposite of Embiid. Next off season pull the trade trigger, and, NO. We’ll be trading you to wherever we get the best package from.
Embiid used to be funny to be the funny Shaq type big man…
How did he turn into late 40s sour Shaq so quickly?
Calm down people. Just remember, trust the process!
Dude makes Deandre Ayton look like Charles Oakley
Joel Inbed Again? Must be on rehab assignment Again??
Bro got paid how much to be late to everything? Yeah pos pot, meet pos kettle.
Or man up and actually have some rage to win. You’re the star of your team, toughen up and take it seriously.
