Discussing the trade acquisition of veteran point guard Dennis Schröder, general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. said the Warriors will continue to be aggressive in their search for roster upgrades, according to Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN.
After starting the season 12-3, the Warriors have gone just 2-8 over their past 10 games. They are currently 14-11, the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference.
“We’re always aggressive,” Dunleavy said. “You got to be mindful of what you’re giving up, what you’re getting back, all those things. But anything to do to make the team better, we’re going to do.
“We’re in a time zone here of maximizing our window with Steph [Curry], Draymond [Green] and Steve [Kerr] as our coach. So as proven here on the first day we could basically make trades with certain players, we did that. … For the most part I feel good about this team, particularly on the defensive end, and now we have a player that we think could create and generate more offense for us. I want to evaluate and see, but we’ll always be looking at stuff.”
Schröder is playing on an expiring $13MM contract, making him an unrestricted free agent next summer. One report indicated the Warriors could look to flip him in a future deal for a star-level player, since he’s eligible to be aggregated with other salaries starting February 5, just before the Feb. 6 trade deadline.
However, Kerr suggested Schröder could start in the backcourt alongside Curry. And Dunleavy claims Golden State views the 31-year-old German as more than just a “short-term rental,” as Youngmisuk puts it.
“We still think he’s got a lot of good years left in him,” Dunleavy said of Schröder. “And we’ll have his [Early] Bird rights, the ability to re-sign him after the season. We think he’s a good fit for us on both sides of the court and hopefully there’s a relationship here longer than just a few months.”
Among top 20 teams, 15 teams need to upgrade the bench, Warriors can help them …..
Podz and Kuminga simply dont fit this timeline and can bring back a lot, MDJ will have to include both plus Wiggins in targeting upgrade wings and bigs. I hope they circle back to Cam Johnson, who is 28 and better than Kuminga while playing the exact same position. Plus he cooks with Dennis. I love Nic Claxton on GSW too.
Kuminga, Payton, Moody for Cam Johnson…
Moody is untradeable, no shot Lacob moves a poison pilled contract before it expands from $3M to $39M. He could trade Moody for a expiring deal superstar in the offseason 1-1.
In a multi-teamer: Wiggins, Kuminga, Podziemski, Payton II, Looney a first and a second for Jimmy Butler, Nikola Vucevic, Cam Johnson, Nic Claxton, cash, and a second is my dream scenario right now (today) (maybe today only, haha)
> He could trade Moody for a expiring deal superstar
> in the offseason 1-1.
That sounds reasonable. Which superstar were you thinking Moody would fetch us in return? Kyrie Irving? Fred Van Vleet? I want to be sure we get full value back for Moody.
Hahaha
No , you have some sort of weird obsession with Moody , it’s so thinly veiled anyone can see it , and a complete & utter axe to grind with Podz & Kerr.
That’s why nobody takes your opinions seriously , and they all just laugh at you.
Everything you write has a very thinly veiled ulterior motive behind it.
Just stop posting plz.
That is Moodys burner
Kuminga does fit the timeline, but he has taken way too long to turn into the player it was expected him to be. He can still be that for sure, but if he cant do it now for them then the Warriors could do better with someone else.
He’s 22 for Christ sake
Kuminga is going to be a beast when he’s 28. Kinda like how Cam Johnson is right now.
So in short trash?
Brabo, I hear what you say about Kuminga frequently, and I think it misunderstands what is the normal, expected rate of development of young stars.
Kuminga turned 22 only 1 month ago. He’s ahead of Jaylen Brown, Jimmy Butler, Kahwi, and, yes, Giannis, at similar stages of their career.

He’s averaged 22 ppg per 34 minutes over the last 2 seasons. In games he’s started, the Warriors are 33-16. In his career starts, he’s averaged 21.5 ppg. He’s been in our most productive lineups. He’s a long athletic wing, the most valued archetype in the modern NBA. He ranks in the top 10 defenders in the NBA.
If JK’S pace of development is too slow, then the Warriors should always trade away their draft choices. It’s that simple. 22 year old superstars are a rarity. It’ll take another 2-3 years to reach that point.
The larger point is that talented young players improve gradually, and, as Lakob and MDJ have repeatedly said, you can’t build a sustainable winner in today’s NBA without a young core.
Kawhi won Finals MVP at 22.
Here are Kahwi’s stats for his first 3 seasons, they are not as good as Kuminga’s. (And, Kuminga started 1 year earlier.). Kahwi was nice, but nobody was calling him a future superstar quite yet.
2011-12, 20 yrs old, 7.9 ppg
2012-13, 21 yrs old, 11.9 ppg
2013-14, 22 yrs old, 12.8 ppg
The point: it usually takes a few years.
Kahwi won the Finals MVP at the end of his 3rd season, which was a breakout performance.
The problem with Kuminga is that, so far, he has regressed. His shooting numbers are down. In his 4th year, he should be building on what he did in the past. Lineups should not matter if he wants to be a superstar.
Dunleavy said Poole was a part of the Warriors future; he traded Jordan 3 days later.
Giants74, as much as the haters will find some short-term lows, the trend with 22 year-olds is up.
Kuminga is worth more now than last year, and will be worth more at the end of the season. (See his recent 33 pt game against the Rockets a week ago.). And, since, moving back to the starting lineup, he’s back to the 21 ppg, 40% 3pt profile you’ve raved about.
But, as much as you focus on offense, Kuminga’s greatest value (like Wiggins) is his defense, which is reflected by opponents’ 3 pt shooting attempts and makes. As Kuminga’s experience grows, so do his mistakes lessen, and his impressive defensive analytics continue to rise. Without Kuminga and Wiggins, we’re one of the 2-3 worst perimeter defenses in the league.
Huh? You are still confused about what I am saying. I never raved about Kuminga’s 40% 3pt shooting. Because he has never shot 40% for an extended period. 5 games is not an extended period of time. The Houston game was great for him. He needs to do that more. He shot 3 of 6 from 3pt land. It keeps defenders honest. Wiggins shoots and makes more 3pointers than Kuminga. He doesn’t make $30 million a year. Defense alone will not get him $30 million a year. All of the superstars you have cited shoot 3s on a consistent basis. It is how the NBA works.
Giants74, Some facts to help you with your obvious misunderstanding.
EVERY SINGLE ROOKIE IN JK’S CLASS EXTENDED FOR $30M SHOOTS UNDER 34%. AND NONE OF THEM SHOOTS BETTER THAN JK.
Career 3pt%:
Jonathan Kuminga (33.8%)
Cade Cunningham (33.8%)
Franz Wagner (33%)
Scottie Barnes (31%)
Evan Mobley (29%)
Alperen Sengun (28%)
Jaylen Green (33.4%)
Jaylen Johnson (33%)
Nobody but you believes Kuminga’s 3-pt% shooting prevents him from making $30M/yr.
Just FYI, some rounded career 3-pt% for players mentioned on this thread:
SGA 34%
Luka Doncic 34%
Dennis Schroder: 34%
Jimmy Butler 33%
Lebron James 34%
Giannis 28%
As a historical note:
Kobe Bryant 32%
Michael Jordan 32%
Except when your last name is Wiseman
Is that supposed to mean something?
Payton and a 2nd for either S Adams, Kelly Olynyk or Janos Val
It’s about the big picture ……
Kuminga has more trade value than Cam Johnson
Lets hope Dunleavy can work a trade for AD without losing Wiggins
That’s impossible for GSW money-wise, it would mean no one making anything but min wage other than Steph, Dray, AD and Wiggs, but through the power of multi-teamers, anything is possible.
Casuals will eat anything up. Cam Johnson this and Cam Johnson that. Davey is the only one who knows anything in this thread
All hail the great Davey J
You look at Kumingas numbers and they actually look decent.
The reality is he takes a lot of dumb shots, is not reliable and actually looks like he is playing for a contract, he looks as though his priority is getting those numbers…not great as a team player.
Has potential like anyone does, and has great athleticism, but please, enough is enough, need to move him.
