Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga has suffered a significant ankle sprain and will be out multiple weeks, the team’s PR department announced (via Twitter).
Kuminga exited Saturday’s game against Memphis with 2:27 remaining in the second quarter due to a sprained right ankle. He underwent an MRI Sunday which confirmed that he suffered a significant lateral ankle sprain. He will be reevaluated in three weeks, per the club.
It’s a huge blow to the Warriors, as Kuminga has come on strong in recent weeks. He posted back-to-back 34 point games late last month. For the season, Kuminga has averaged 16.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.
Kuminga and the club failed to agree on a rookie scale extension before the October deadline, so he’ll be a restricted free agent after the season.
For now, the team will have to scramble to replace Kuminga’s production and might be more inclined to make a significant move before next month’s trade deadline. Kyle Anderson and former starter Kevon Looney figure to play more prominent roles in his absence.
No need to worry, Schroeder will fix it all.
MDJ could trade Podz, GP2 and a pick for Vucevic but nooo gotta have 17 guards so he can lose with small ball!!!
They will never beat larger teams as long as Kerr insist on TJD playing center.
Huh? Didn’t the Warriors just beat the Grizzlies. They have 5 guys who are 6’10” or taller. I guess your statement is false.
None of those guys are all star centers. If you think Grizzlies are a tall team you must be Kerr’s sidekick.
JJJ is an All-Star PF and DPOY.
The Warriors also didn’t have Curry in that game, in case you forgot.
he is a 6 10 Power forward. One game doesn’t make the warriors great the other game they played got blown out by 50.
They’ve played 3 times; the Warriors have won twice.
So according to you the warriors are a better team than the Celtics because the warriors beat them. hmmm how about that.
The Grizzlies are smaller than the Warriors?
didn’t say that said they do not have a true center. So you only want to hear what you want to hear.
Who do you consider a “true center”? Vucevic? Given the Warriors history, it is hard to get excited about a not particularly mobile 34 year old 6’10” player making $20 million.
That is why they need not worry about this season and get 1 in the off season. Face it they are not going anywhere in the playoffs.
I keep looking at the draft. There are a couple of possibilities.
Hoping Post can be a present inside. Still raw but it takes big men a few years to be ready.
Who could the Warriors have gotten for Melton’s contract.
Vucevic would spread the offense out further, Giants74 – allowing especially Green, Kuminga and Wiggy to crash the boards more tenaciously for easy putbacks and extended shot clock opportunities. Looney and GP2 would likely need to be included in the deal for salary-matching purposes. If there was some way though that they could throw TJD in while retaining Looney, I’d prefer keeping the elder undersized center.
“Kyle Anderson and former starter Kevon Looney figure to play more prominent roles in his absence.”
^ whoever wrote this does not know Steve Kerr at all. Get ready for more Podziemski and Waters with 35 mins 6 points -12 games!! Small doesn’t work anymore but Kerr is always the last to know!!!
Not enough salary , your like 7-8 mill short
Add Looney then?
Definitely a trade coming now ……
get well kid.
Price just went up for Vu. Don’t need to trade him since he has 21M next year as well.
He’s a good fit for Warriors ….
That’s fine, they still need to give us better than expiring contracts and 2nd rounders first for a team thats clearly headed nowhere without trades (warriors).
I don’t mind a vuch for wiGGins trade, idk if it works cap wise but as a bulls fan I would love to see wiGGins Get a fresh start and reach that potential we all know he capable of, rouGh couple years mentally for him(personal losses).
Is your g key stuck in caps?
How is Chicago supposed to help Wiggins? He went from a near bust to an All-Star with the Warriors. He loves playing for the Warriors. A trade would probably be disheartening.
I don’t see why everyone is so excited about Vucevic. He is whole inch taller than TJD. How many wins does that inch guarantee? Trades like this have turned out badly for the Warriors in the past. Why make the mistake again? Do we need more losing seasons?
Davey J must really be attracted to Kerr, but knows it will never happen. How else do you explain his hatred of Kerr? 17 guards? He has obviously never followed the Warriors. Where does he get this 17 guards idea from?
From the people he speaks with in his mothers Basement
Schroeder’s problem seems to be playing with Curry. Without Curry on the floor, he’s better. They just aren’t compatible right now.
the team is way out of synch. Problem is Green and Curry are the ones that are most out of synch. 9 TOs last night between the 2 of them. Kerr is not adjusting the team to other teams.
The first of Curry’s four was basically Schroeder’s fault, to be fair. Draymond, absolutely (two of his were team turnovers on offensive fouls because he has the self-control of a small child). But that’s what happens when your guys don’t play together. Introducing a new player while injuries are everywhere isn’t a good look by the FO either.
Curry did bad passes throwing the ball expecting the player to be there. 2 to TJD that were fumbled. Curry should know he has soft hands. The blame can go all around the team to most players. No big man in the middle means they must double team Sabonis last night leaving the 3 pt line unprotected.
EonADS, that’s a great point about mistakes happening when lineups change, and also about the cost of introducing new players mid-season, especially when the Warriors offense takes time to learn. It’s taking lots of time with Schroeder, and it’s possible that it won’t work.
Some trade candidates should be “plug-and-play”, though. Cam Johnson comes to mind. Vucevic, although he can shoot the 3, needs touches in the low post and the Boogie Cousins experience showed how we struggle with that.
PGs are incapable of plug-and-play production like that. At least actual ones like Schroeder. If you end up in a completely different system, it’s no surprise that he’s going to struggle.
Johnson wouldn’t be plug-and-play, as he’s used to a much more pick-and-roll heavy system, as well as playing a lot slower. Both Brooklyn and Phoenix were half-court offensive teams.
Schroeder can fit into the system. He’s proven that he can perform in 3-guard lineups, and could fill a role similar to Leandro Barbosa on the earlier Warriors teams, or the 7SOL Suns. The problem is the lack of interior presence. Draymond can defend, but he cannot attack from either the high or low post, or act as a rim-runner. TJD has the opposite problem. Looney is a possible fit, but the lack of spacing without Thompson/Poole is really starting to bite the Warriors when he’s on the floor. They need a true 2-guard who can act as a movement shooter if they plan to run Looney.
It difficult to introduce new players anytime. It doesn’t matter when they join a team. No player is plug and play.
Bench Schroder, he is better when Steph is off the floor and vice versa. Their playstyles dont match
Can we still trade him if he’s injured?
