The Warriors endured a 40-point beatdown from the Celtics on their home floor on Monday and they admit that the 2022 Finals, when Golden State defeated Boston, feels like ancient history, Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN writes.
“Yeah, we have an entirely different roster pretty much, obviously,” Stephen Curry said. “Especially without Draymond [Green] out there (due to injury). But you look [at what] they have, besides [Kristaps] Porzingis, they have pretty much the whole rotation still, and they are the defending champs. So, they’re coming in with a level of confidence and swagger about ’em, and it’s the exact opposite of what we have right now. So yeah, obviously great memories, but definitely feels like a long time ago.”
“Seems like an eternity ago,” Warriors center Kevon Looney added. “We have had a lot of iterations of the team since then. Each season brings on a new challenge. That year seems further and further away. But hopefully, we can get back to that feeling of being a champion. But we got a long way to go.”
We have more from the Pacific Division:
- Is it time for the Warriors to hit the reset button? Kevin O’Connor of Yahoo.com endorses that approach, saying they should look to deal Curry and Green while they still have a lot of value. O’Connor explores a number of trade possibilities involving Atlanta, Houston, Detroit, the Lakers and Orlando to demonstrate what the return could be for each player.
- Domantas Sabonis has knocked down 48.4 percent of his 3-point attempts this season, far above his 34.9 percent career average. The Kings big man told Jason Anderson of the Sacramento Bee that he has gradually developed his long-range game. “It’s something I’ve been working on ever since I started playing basketball,” Sabonis said. “Sometimes it doesn’t happen overnight. You’ve got to keep doing it one summer, another offseason, another offseason. You just hope at one point you’re going to break through, and so far this year it’s been going in, so I’ve just got to keep sticking with it and shooting with confidence.”
- The Suns list Bradley Beal as questionable to play against the Nets on Wednesday due to a left ankle sprain (Twitter link). Beal returned to action on Monday at Cleveland after a two-game absence but contributed just five points and four assists in 25 minutes. Jusuf Nurkic remains out due to “return to competition reconditioning.”
Wiggins, GP2 and Looney playing 1000x worse than they did in 2022 is why they are this bad. Also Kerr committing to small ball under -any- scenario, is played out and everyone knows how to beat it. Look at what Kenny is doing in Cleveland – playing 3 bigs sometimes. Kerr, for all his millions of rotations, ZERO of them contain both Looney and TJD. Kerr is a moron who thinks small ball is a winning formula, and it isnt. Trade GP2, Podz, Lindy and Buddy and just let Moody and Dennis be the SG.
I said on day 1 the starting lineup they SHOULD be committing to is TJD, Dray, Wiggs, Moody, Steph, but now I think their best lineup (that Kerr has never used even one time) is Looney, TJD, Green, Moody and Steph.
Curry would have to take 70 shots a game to generate any semblance of offense with that lineup.
Moody is a better scorer than you think
This comment was spot on.
Warriors biggest problem is lack of size, and the coach with predictable plays, and lack of mid-game adjustments.
Also: the Warriors are the highest-valued sports team in the USA -because- of Curry. Because of that reason, he is -never ever- being traded, and Dray at $25M doesn’t work on any other team either. They -should- trade everyone except those 2 and just take what bullets they have and build better around the 2 icons.
That dynasty is dead. They can choose to be an average/bad team while waiting for draymond and curry to finish out their time before retiring or they can trade them for what value they have left. (Green not much, curry some but still has 2 years left after this year at 60 million per and he’s not going to get better in those 2 years)
Good luck building around aging depreciating assets.
Warriors need Danny GOAT Ainge come in and ship these guys out, lol. Let’s see what Steph can do with Wemby.
Wait 2022 is ancient history? Really. ‘Except for Kristaps they have the whole rotation still, lol. Yeah, OK. Pritchard and Hauser weren’t even in the rotation. Horford is now 53 yrs old. White only just got to Boston in 22. You seem to be forgetting Jrue Holiday. Different coach, yada, yada, yada. Complete different style of play when R and G Williams were in Boston and how old was JT and Jaylen in 22? You guys are old now and your roster sucks and you got whooped, and thats what happened. Don’t go all LeBron just give flowers were due. You’ve received plenty over the years.
Yeah these quotes were sour grapes but also what do you expect them to say. Curry can’t be feeling great right now.
Steph normally not like that. Just say they were good, we were bad. They won, we’ll move on.
‘Give flowers’ is the worst newspeak phrase I’ve heard in years I can’t stand it
When the Warriors finally dwindle into obscurity, are we still going to get these desperate attempts at Warriors pieces? Are Davey’s daily pipe dreams really worth that much to HoopsRumors?
We all are sick of it lmao. Glad you guys can farm 40 comments on a story about nothing I guess.
WARriOrS HaTErs WoNT lEaVE uS AloNE!¡!
KOC is drunk…
Unless he has to be packaged with Curry to make a deal work Draymond has less value than Butler or Beal…
Boner, nrg82, afsooner –
That’s a whole lot of typing, and not a word of it about the news article. (nrg82, I’m especially impressed by the stream of consciousness technique.) Anyway, it’s all a bit negative, wouldn’t you say?
I’m curious. Do you guys ever wonder if Warriors fans are paying attention to you? Or, perhaps you’re working on your personal brands? Or, perhaps you’re researching whether trolling is a sign of underlying issues such as insecurity, low empathy, or a need for attention?
Pro tip. Most of the frequent Warriors posters “mute” Davey J. That means you’re also muted when you respond to him.
