Warriors guard Gary Payton II is on track to return to action on Wednesday. Payton, who hasn’t played since Christmas Day due to a calf strain, scrimmaged on Sunday and worked out on Monday, Anthony Slater of The Athletic tweets. He has appeared in 28 games this season, including four starts.
We have more from the Pacific Division:
- Draymond Green sat out the Warriors‘ three-point loss to Toronto on Monday. He participated in the team’s practice on Sunday but was not at Monday morning’s shootaround due to an illness, according to Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN. He has been listed on the injury report due to a back injury. Coach Steve Kerr doesn’t think Green’s back issue is a major concern. “I remember a couple of years ago, I think ’22 season, he missed 15-20 games when the back flared up, so we just have to stay on top of it,” Kerr said. “Training staff is doing a great job with him, and Draymond has done a great job of just doing his rehab and making sure he’s keeping himself in good shape. I think he should be fine going forward.”
- The streaking Kings may not have Malik Monk on Tuesday. He’s listed as questionable against Milwaukee due to right groin soreness, Kings radio reporter Sean Cunningham tweets. Monk has been a huge part of Sacramento’s seven-game winning streak. He’s averaging 23.3 points and 7.8 assists per game so far this month.
- Los Angeles’ 12 pro sports teams — including the Lakers and Clippers — have pledged to donate more than $8MM to those affected by the state’s wildfires as well as those fighting the fires, ESPN’s Dave McMenamin tweets. The contributions will be donated to a variety of organizations.
If Draymond plays, Warriors win that game.
Dray didn’t play and the Warriors lost so we’ll never know.
The Warriors could really use the incoming lottery pick. Seriously, I’m not hating but Steph needs some help be it a trade for some talent or someone to build around for the future.
@tacocat…Curry has had a career that nobody could have imagined. He was rejected so many times. Yet, he became the face of one of the oldest NBA franchises…It is time for a new generation to build upon his legacy.
If ifs and buts were candies and nuts then we’d all have a wonderful Christmas!
bonercat only shows up at nba rumors to bash warriors. You never see him on any other comment section. Not even his kings comment board.
Yes, you do, you just don’t read Kings articles, lol.
so is that your burner account?
of the last 7 kings post he ONLY 1 time talked about Kings the rest of the post with warriors on it too he just trolled warrior fans. Come on EON why are you standing up for him?
lmao no. I’m not on here 24/7.
*shrug* maybe he’s been in the mood for it lately. I know I’ve talked Kings with him in the past. Maybe I’m just not remembering properly.
Seriously, though, having receipts for Hoops Rumors comment sections is wild.
Bonercat only shows up to put down warriors and their fans. He brings nothing else to the conservation. Not calling you out because you do not post negative comments and bring something to the comment board.
Arc you only read Warriors stories AHAHAHAHAHAH. And unlike you, I dont need to flap my gums every time a player on my team gets talked about. I don’t need to have the same conversation over and over and over and over and over again like you simpletons love to do.
I appreciate the free rent in your big head tho. Warriors are winning 48 games this year right??
just calling you out for what you are bonercat. You just love bashing warriors and their fans. i can’t imagine leading that type of life where my #1 priority is bashing at team or their fans for enjoyment. So why do you feel a need to bash warrior fans?
Lmao I just checked and you’re just flat wrong. “Pacific Notes” that has 1 blurb about Monk being out, 2 sap pieces about Demar coming back to Chicago, Domas winning player of the week, and Fox being cleared to play…. Those were the big Kings stories I should have been talking on lmao. Definitely don’t look at the Kings pieces that aren’t littered with your team’s exciting development about Draymond’s therapy or Kuminga’s development.
Maybe you could learn something here bud.
Nope. You did not post about kings but on 1 of those boards. the others were put down on warriors. You can’t even lie good. Why is it so hard for you to look over warrior articles and not troll warrior boards. That is a control issue.
Please show me where I “put down” the Warriors lmao. You have been salty since I pulled your receipts. You doofuses dont get to talk out of your behind and act like everyone forgot.
You only comment on the Warriors garbage that gets spoon fed to you for clicks. I don’t ever see you anywhere else. I guess in your defense there are 5 Warriors articles a day so you’re probably pretty tired after that much circle jerking.
Have fun this season arc. It’s only going to get harder ahahahaha.
Oh please its been negative comments for over a year. You just mad i called you out for being a troll on warrior’s page. stay on Kings comments if you want to prove you are not a troll.
WB is always talking ball, not just his team. His original post was regarding if’s and but’s. What exactly is wrong with that. So sensitive and overprotective over guys who couldn’t care less about you.
Calling me a “troll” while having daily tea time with Davey J is laughable at best.
I have posted the same way for almost 4 years on this board. Im very sorry that when someone is being a realist about your favorite team you get angry. That’s not really my problem though lol. Im equally sorry that you and goofy crew feel the need to say the same things on every Warriors story that begrudgingly gets written. Maybe if you could separate yourself from your own fandom for more than 5 minutes you would have seen me being one of the only posters on this site championing player freedom and detesting the ownership boot licking that has swept the community since AD got traded. My love for basketball goes much deeper than my love for the Kings. Something you and fair weather few would know nothing about.
Please do yourself a favor and read my comments about the Kings starting from opening day. Not only do I clearly know what Im talking about, but Im also not coward enough to go back on my words publicly and cry when someone notices.
When I said the Warriors would win 38 games this year was that trolling? Or was it a better understanding of that roster than you had?
I have nothing to prove to you. Make a good call and stick by it. Maybe then you’ll be someone worth respecting. Until then, have fun whining about whatever Davey found on twitter.
Dork.
How am I having tea time with Davey if i rarely respond to his terrible trade ideas? Your problem is you got called out for hating on warriors and obsessed with the warriors. A lot of people said warriors were a terrible team and a lottery team. Like I said before if any team have major injuries they will fall out of contention. last night the warriors were down 4 players 2 of them starters and the other 2 big rotation players. I even picked OKC as the best team and still do. So leave the warrior board you will not be missed by anyone.
So which is it arc? Am I supposed to comment on Kings pieces or leave the Warriors pieces? Not sure you understand that 4 out of 5 Kings articles are tied to your players having a bad day.
Congrats on picking OKC dude. Maybe tomorrow you can predict the sun coming up.
I don’t hate the Warriors. As a Kings fan and Nor Cal man, their run was the only time I could be a real fan during the playoffs in the last 20 years. I’ve stated numerous times that my problem is with the fans that their run has spawned. Pompous, arrogant, know nothing casuals who take any form of criticism as an attack on their sacred franchise. Thats why I don’t let you or Davey slide on BS but I show love to my guy Gary whenever he’s kind enough to display his knowledge of ball and of his favorite team.
Keep digging this hole man. And instead of telling you that you don’t belong on these boards, I will cordially invite you to have an opinion on anything else besides the Golden State Warriors. Let’s really see who knows ball.
Wish I could say I was shocked arc. Go hide. I’ll be here
Aristotle needs to get over it. Draymond is on the wrong side of 30. You can’t expect his body to hold out forever. If you are truly a Warriors fan, then you would realize what he brought to this team. Appreciate that.
Actually, I wasn’t blaming Draymond for being injured, although I could see why you might read it that way.
I certainly did mean that we are losing more games because our older players are increasingly unavailable.
The Warriors are in a pickle. How do you lose to the Raptors? That shouldn’t happen if you’re a championship contender, a sure playoff team, or even a play in candidate.
On the road against the team that’s not doing well right now should be a win no problem unless the Warriors are pretenders, not contenders.
So the big decision at this trade deadline or the week before and I’m sure they’re talking about it now, is be a buyer or a seller?
I think if one or two studs are not available, you break this thing down. Everybody but Steph is sent packing for future assets.
That’s including Jonathan Kuminga and the scrub Moses Moody. Maybe you can get a second round pick for Dennis and another one for slow Mo? I think Green could bring back somebody or something decent even though he has two more years on his contract after this one. Some playoff contender, maybe even the Lakers with his buddy LeBron?
All this sounds like a great plan as long as Michael Dunleavy Junior can draft better than Bob Myers lol.
There is no player out there that will make them a championship contending team. So they should be sellers. Once Kuminga went down the team has gone down hill. Their #1 priority is build a team for next year and resign Kuminga. Trading Green could be a plus but hwat can they get back for him? i would offer around Anderson, Looney., GP2 or Watters to get 2nd round picks. Moses Moddy is a big disappointment. Now i wish they didn’t resign him and be done with him at the end of the season.
I knew you’d say that arc. Yep it might be time. I’m not as high on Kuminga as you are, I think he’s a sign and trade, get him out of town guy, or even just let him walk at the end of the year if a trade can’t be found at this deadline.
It was OK to sign Moody because he’s only making 13 million so it’s easy to include his contract in a deal, and yes, the guys you mentioned should be easy to get second round pics for.
Gary , EVERY TOP NBA TEAM IS CURRENTLY BUILT ON YOUTH. SEE THE DATA, BELOW. Never trade away young talent; instead, get more of it.
With the new CBA, It’s virtually impossible to build a team around players in their 30’s because their contracts have relatively lower value and they miss too many games. Young players are a better value, enabling a superior roster.
1. Here are the 5 top players from the 8 best teams In the league. NOT ONE OF THEM IS OVER 30 YRS OLD
OKC, Denver, Houston, Memphis, Boston, Cleveland, Knicks, Orlando
OKC: SGA, Williams, Dort, Holmgren, Hartenstein
DEN: Jokic, Murray, Gordon, Braun, Porter
HOU: Green, Van Vleet, Sengun, Smith, Brooks
MEM: Morant, Bane, Jackson, Edey, Smart
CLE: Mitchell, Garland, Mobley, Allen, Strus
NYK: Brunson, Bridges, Anunoby, Towns, Hart
ORL: Suggs, Banchero, Wagner, Carter, Isaac
BOS: Tatum, Brown, Porzingis, White, Pritchard
2. 6 teams in decline with key players over 30:
GSW: Curry, Green, Schroder, Hield, SloMo, Payton…
LAC: Leonard, Harden, Powell, Batum
LAL: LeBron, AD, FInney-Smith
MIL: Lillard, Middleton, Lopez, Giannis (30)…
PHI: George, Embiid (30), Drummond, Gordon, Lowry
PHO: Durant, Beal, ONeal
3. 3 young teams with no top 5 players under 30, all teams with better futures than GSW
DET: Cunningham, Ivey, Duren, Stewart, Thompson,
IND: Haliburton, Mathurin, Nebhard, Turner, Siakkam
SAC: Fox, Sabonis, Murray, Monk, Sabonis
There is no path to success involving trading away young players and/or acquiring old players with the new CBA.
Why are you copy and pasting over here the same thing you wrote over on the other warrior article? I already responded pretty quickly to all this.
That was one point of view so for your pleasure I’ll give you another completely different point of view.
I believe the Warriors are going to tear it down because Jimmy or any other perceived stud is not going to turn the tide for the Warriors this season.
So I think you trade away the vets for what you can plus trade away the current youth for what you can also.
These guys were bad draft picks and I’m talking Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, Even Jackson Davis sucks lately. Throw in Podski as well because he’s got the sophomore slump big time.
Time to reboot with Curry which in turn keeps the fans in their seats and merchandise sales up and franchise value close to 10 billion.
It’s time to start over from scratch. I don’t see anybody worth keeping at all on this roster. You could probably get something decent back for Green from a playoff contender, and the same for Looney. The rest.., whatever you can get.
Sign and trade is fine if they can get some good players for Kuminga and help the rebuild along. They would need to get either 2 good young players or some draft picks and a good young player. The good part is Curry sees that there is no trade that will make them champions at this time so he is not pressuring the team to take a huge gamble.
This is all because Podz and GPII was getting minutes *Sarcasm*
Steph and Draymond are not going anywhere. Enough of this trade Draymond talk. What are you going to get for him? He turns 35 in about 6 weeks and making $25M next year with a $28M player option which he’ll most certainly exercise on. Adding a non shooter like Kyle Anderson was questionable to begin with and giving him nearly $30M for 3 years was ridiculous. They would have been better off adding a guy like Lonnie Walker IV who can shoot. Outside of Wiggins and Kuminga the front line is abysmal at best. If they want Vucevic, they need to make an attractive offer, considering the Bulls are only 1 game ahead GSW in the draft order. He’s making $21M next year and he’s still producing. There not just going to give him away to help Steph’s legacy. They should have traded CP3 and Wiggins for Lavine last year. Lavine has played his tail off this year and really has been a pleasure to watch this year. Warriors miscalculated their own guys’ value with Pods and Moody. Both are bench pieces at best. Best hope is they get a pick around the 6-8 range and someone like Tre Johnson falls to them in the draft or Edgecombe. It’s only going to get uglier as this season goes deeper for this team. Brace yourself if you are a Warriors fan.
I hear you, but I think Dunleavy can work his magic and help the sun shine again in San Francisco. They have valuable pieces and their own draft picks.
Slow Mo was a good signing for less than 10 million a year because he can guard bigs and is a good distributor. He’s not selfish and can hit the three when he’s playing regularly.
You’re probably right about trading Draymond Green. Probably not happening but I wish they would. Imagine if the Lakers were a seven or eight seed and felt like one more defender and tough guy could help them this year? We could get one of their young guys out of it? Maybe Max?
Then I think the other assets can be moved too. I’m trying to keep a positive outlook on the Warriors future but many of your points are solid.
This deadline will be interesting. If they don’t snag a stud or 2 three or four days prior, watch the sell off begin.
Gary,
As always I enjoy reading your thoughts. As for Draymond, I think maybe Vanderbilt would have to be included since they are essentially the same player. Draymond provides a little bit more offense and playmaking than Vando does. I think Max/Vando/Gabe for Draymond would work, but GSW would need to entice the Lakers by adding a pick in that offer. It gives Warriors some much needed youth and defense along with another young shooter in Christie. Question is would Warriors feel comfortable watching Draymond helping out Lebron in his last few seasons of his career?
Yes, matching that $25 million salary would be the tough part, and are the Lakers even better with Green than with the guys they send out? I think at least Green will play and can stay healthier than some other guys who are defense first and grinders.
As far as watching Green help the Lakers win, I don’t think that’s a problem at all. He’s going to be 35 and just like Klay, they want these guys to be successful elsewhere because family is family and if they leave.., good luck to you and much success.
Bottom line is the Warriors need to re-tool and if sending Green to the Lakers helps that happen so be it. The Warriors are no good standing pat that’s for sure.
no way the warriors should do a trade like that because it makes them worse carrying a bad contract in Vincent and not knowing what Vandy will bring you with a extra year. christie is the only good contract coming back. Take out Vincent and throw in some expiring contracts to make it work.
Arc, Lakers don’t have any other expiring contracts. Everyone makes too little compared to Vincent. At best, you could waive him. He has $11.5M for next year and then he’s a FA.
Warriors could get a better trade from another team by receiving expiring contracts. Maybe Lakers can get a third team in the trade to lessen the burden of future payroll on the warriors.
Yeah, good luck with that dream and let me know how that turns out lol. Nobody wants Draymond besides Lakers.
A few teams would take Green but the warriors will not get anything back of value.
Adding to what I wrote above, now is a great time to trade Draymond Green. He still has value to a playoff team and perhaps the Warriors could get somebody solid in return who’s younger.
I think Klay Thompson leaving makes trading Draymond a greater possibility. The band has broken up, so it’s best to get something now while you can.
Otherwise, Steph and Dray get old together and the Warriors go down the tubes with them.
This is not Bob Myers and an emotional tie to these guys. Well specifically Draymond Green. Dunleavy Junior can trade him easily in a business decision.
