Andrew Wiggins, Kevon Looney and Gary Payton II have all been mentioned as potential trade candidates. The Warriors’ trio put on a show on Wednesday as Golden State upset Oklahoma City, Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic notes. They combined for 60 of Golden State’s 116 points.
Afterward, Wiggins and Looney indicated they’d like to stay put.
“Sometimes it can be disappointing if you want to stay,” Wiggins said. “If you enjoy things somewhere. Your family is here. You got relationships. So it’s not easy. It’s a business.”
“Yeah, I want to stay,” Looney said. “I know what the game is. I’ve been here long enough. My locker mate’s changed a lot of times. It might be my time. Who knows? That’s the NBA. I definitely will not be sleeping that night, whenever that time is for the trade deadline. I’m gonna be up.”
We have more from the Pacific Division:
- Lakers big man Jaxson Hayes will make his fourth start of the season against Washington on Thursday, ESPN’s Dave McMenamin tweets. Hayes will fill in for Anthony Davis, who’s out at least a week with an abdominal strain. Hayes will be an unrestricted free agent after the season.
- Bronny James received some first-half minutes against Philadelphia on Tuesday and it didn’t go well, Lakers coach JJ Redick admits. The rookie missed all five of his field goal attempts, committed three turnovers and was targeted at the defensive end. “Maybe put him in a tough spot,” Redick said, per McMenamin. “Flying up yesterday, nationally televised game in Philly and all that stuff. He didn’t play well, but he’s been playing great in the stay-ready games, and he’s been playing great in the G [League].”
- The Athletic’s Law Murray breaks down the Clippers’ roster into tiers as the trade deadline approaches. He lists Kawhi Leonard, James Harden and Ivica Zubac as the only untouchables — in Zubac’s case, he signed an extension in September which makes him ineligible to be dealt this season.
JJ needs to stop kissing up to LeBron and say what needs to be said Bronny is not ready for the NBA. You do know that in practice other Laker players are being easy on Bronny so LeBron doesn’t get angry.
arc arent you happy the Warriors are playing well again, just like I said they would??? last nights game was a movie!!!
Don’t get ahead of yourself. They match up against OKC because OKC is down their #1 center. Just wish Kerr would stop using Buddy in the starting lineup. Did you notice they went back to zone defense instead of double teaming the best player.
arc89, GSW-OKC could be a first round playoff series, with #8 vs #1 seed.
You’re right about this: GSW seems to match up well with OKC.
You’re also right that they miss Chet Holmgren, who we don’t match up well against. But with Draymond and JK back, IMO, that evens out.
You would of proud of me yesterday, lol. Biggest Golden State fan in the world for a day. Can’t stand protected species like SGA. Golden State beat the officials yesterday too. Dude gets touched by air and shoots 20 plus free throws…..pppfffttt. Most nothing short of ridiculously soft.
I was impressed how SGA blew by Wiggins a few times a top defender. You rarely ever see that. What i didn’t like is how he was doing a fake and run into the defender to get the call. Most of the time the officials will not call it.
He’s a protected species, not allowed to even look at him letalone slightly lay a hair on the man. It’s the nba, it doesn’t matter how good a one on one defender you are. It’s easy to blow by a single defender with the floor spaced. Use to only be the start of the fun and games dealing with help defender, most of time a physical big. Those days are long gone. Layups or free throws these days. Depends what name is on the back of the jersey too (protected species)
Remember that Embiid guy dining out at the line only to crap the bed repeatedly come playoff time? SGA by all rights is looking at the same future if the officials let teams play D come playoff time. I was literally near peeing my pants in laughter at the majority of calls sending Shae to the line yesterday.
That is the thing about playoffs and finals they do not call the ticky tack fouls like in the regular season. Reason why some players do not very well in the playoffs.
@Davey
You spent all off-season clamoring about how the Warriors were going to be the class of the West. Talking about the team like it was the team of about a decade ago. Now nearly 50 games into the season they’re 1 game over .500 and fighting to stay in the play-in picture. And here you are saying “..just like I said…” About the same team.
You’re a know-nothing.
Jj is a class act on and off the court, graduated Duke,so fairly intelligent. Doesn’t fit your take on the man
Right….Russell played against Plumbers and Electricians. Here I was thinking Bill played against Wilt, Baylor and West. Jordans era was weak. Except for the part where the 80’s and 90’s have the most guys in the top 75 nba players of all time. How many 60 win teams and so called MVPs that guy beat? Barkley is the reason ratings are down. Yep, real classy.
Warriors really screwed up the pooch. I forgot they had an opportunity for Lavine by just giving up CP3 and a pick I believe. Now it’s gonna cost more for his services.
Bulls didn’t want CP3. They tried trading him before free agency and no team wanted him at that price. So they cut him loose. He then signed with Spurs at a reduced rate.
It was expiring salary that they fully could have dealt at a profit for a worse contract the way OKC did. Get a player find a worse one and trade at a profit until you have Kemba and you just buy him out.
raz – the larger problem with acquiring Lavine is his contract of $45M/yr, which, obviously, limits the team from acquiring or retaining other playrs.
CP3 had $30M of matching salary. The Warriors would have needed to add $20M worth of of other players to get Lavine and a couple of other minimums back.
Moving forward, the same problem arises with Andrew Wiggins, who costs about ~$17M less than Lavine.
No avoiding the fact that Lavine is overpaid. But the juice may be worth the squeeze.
Yeah I think it was Wiggins who was the other player with CP3. Wasn’t Klay ‘s expiring salary in those proposals as well?
That would have been last year’s trade deadline and they did not have him on the trading block thinking he would take a pay cut and stay.
No it would have been CP3 and another 13M in salary so a couple additional players besides CP3 and probably a protected pick. They also then cant sign any of Hield/Anderson/Melton who I think they felt pretty good about. Melton especially fit perfect if he hadnt gotten hurt.
Would rather the Clippers not trade Dunn or Jones Jr.
T-Mann either, unless it’s a substantial haul.
Clippers have a highly underrated squad. #2 defense in the league.
Maybe one big man away from having a complete roster.
Bronny James stats with Lakers = FG% = 06.3% (1-16). 3pt% = 0% (0-7). How many 6’2 shooting guards are in the NBA who can’t shoot?? Especially the 3-ball??? How can you impact defensively when you don’t know how to guard?? How do you impact defensively when at 6’2 EVERY match-up puts you at a severe height disadvantage??? How does a kid who averaged 4 ppg on a bad USC team get drafted, and then receive a guaranteed 4-year contract. Now LeBron and AD want Pelinka to make a big move at the trade deadline. AD wants a center. The Los Angeles Lakers are no longer a serious basketball team.
Why are you writing about Bronny James is the better question. Who cares?
Every single thing this guy said during the playoffs last year was wrong.
Forget the playoffs, VB has almost as many bad takes as Skip Bayless. Which is impressive, given that he has a fraction of the exposure.
I think plenty of people care. It’s a huge talking point out here in LA.
But it’s the kind of caring like, why do the Lakers even have him on the team? And, can’t believe the Lakers are so sucked up to LeBron Senior. Stuff like that.
Worry more about about the city of fires burning to the ground my friend.
@teacher – what is wrong with you dude? We talk ball on here. Save your petty opinions for the mirror clown.
That name can’t be taken seriously nor can you. My point went over your bonerhead.
Teacher I was kind of with you when you were bashing Davy J and his many off center takes, but here I see you’ll bash anyone and everyone.
But that’s fine. That’s why we have the comment forum . Keep it rolling, I enjoy your takes. It’s OK you can be ugly with me, but I’ll still come up smelling like roses because I don’t mind opposition. Keep it coming, bro.
Thanks Gary Red Sox warriors being with me on Davey J. I’ve been rolling since Acapulco gold was straight from Mexico.
Bronny was overmatched against Pac12 guards last year. He couldn’t guard Washington State’s freshman PG who absolutely destroyed him multiple games. When you’re an undersized college SG who struggled mightily on defense at that level, you are going to be completely exposed at the next level.
One thing makes me wonder about Bronny is if his heart condition is worse than the public knows and its a favor for LeBron to play with him since he doesn’t have a long life span ahead of him.
arc89, that’s an interesting theory. The heart condition explanation makes sense of why LeBron doesn’t seem to mind Bronny’s performance. The goal is not to excel in the NBA, but only to realize their more modest dream of making it in the NBA and playing together.
A minor variation on your theory: Bronny isn’t in danger of dying from the heart condition, but the condition does cast doubt on whether he can play long enough to develop into a legit NBA player.
I *really* don’t think his G-League numbers would be anything but garbage if he were suffering from medical issues. The G-League isn’t the NBA or US College D-I ranks, but it’s still a professional sports league. Most of those guys would absolutely crush the average D-II college guy. That sounds more like pure speculation than anything that makes even the slightest bit of sense.
EonADS, to be clear, a heart condition need NOT affect his everyday performance, but any number of unpredictable factors can trigger arrhythmia or cardiac arrest. That’s the nature of many common heart conditions (see, for example, LQTS). And it’s basically what happened to Bronny last year.
We don’t know anything about Bronny’s diagnosis, but it’s reasonable to assume he faces elevated risk and is monitoring his condition. We can only speculate.
You read to many comic books.
It was a bad call to put him in when JJ did, thats on JJ not the kid
I could care less if Bugs Bunny occupied my 15th spot as long as he’s not in when the games in tow. Nobody ever said a peep about Max Lewis, hell half these people don’t even know who Maxwell Lewis is
Do Lakers fans talk about this…Yes,unfortunately they do, quite a bit but we have ALWAYS had a nasty side to try and find a scapegoat for our problems when times aren’t going good….KCP Kuzma RW Bynum Odom Drummond Dlo the list goes on and on and on ……..wish our fanbase would get better at that, I imagine players leaguewide have taken note and that cant help
Did you see Bronny’s dunk the other night it was Amazingz
I don’t see Clips changing many things up at all
They got the Tucker and Hyland expiring’s that equate to about 16 M…They can take back 13.5 (or less) on that and slip the tax…or they can take up to about 2o M to try and upgrade best as possible (tough market for gains there w/out using a first )
I see some kinda movement with that money but I think it will be very small
