Cross the Rockets off the list of potential suitors for De’Aaron Fox, according to The Athletic’s Kelly Iko.
With the revelation that the Kings might consider dealing their leading scorer before next week’s deadline, Houston has been mentioned as a potential landing spot. However, Iko hears the Rockets aren’t interested in making a major move until at least the offseason. That echoes a Marc Stein report regarding the Rockets’ reluctance to pursue a blockbuster deal.
Rockets front office executives learned through recent conversations with Kings officials that there’s an increasing likelihood of a potential Fox trade, according to Iko.
In the Rockets’ thinking, it’s not time to mess with a good thing. They currently lead the Southwest Division and sit second in the Western Conference standings. The Rockets’ front office is pleased with the growth of its young roster and wants to ride out the rest of the season with that core group, as general manager Rafael Stone stated publicly last month.
Team sources told Iko they’re only interesting in making a marginal move that wouldn’t impact the current rotation. The Rockets would seek draft compensation in the form of second-round picks to take on additional salary in such a trade.
That’s because the Rockets aren’t saddled with the same restrictions as some contenders who are above the first or second tax aprons. The Rockets are approximately $10.6MM under the luxury tax and still have their $12.8MM non-taxpayer mid-level exception available to use in a trade.
While there will likely be plenty of other teams with interest in Fox, multiple reports have indicated that San Antonio is believed to be the guard’s preferred destination.
Why hasn’t Sill suggested Amen, Sengun, and 3 FRP’s for Huerter and Fox yet?
That bot must hate that Houston is this good, this fast.
He’s only programmed to suggest trades that send players to the Lakers for a marginal return.
The best comment I’ve ever seen on this site. Yes they’re always trying to fleece everyone, a la yankees
Watched Celtics vs Rockets on nbaTV.. what a game man. Knicks were overconfident in Houston, and lost a close one. Celtics too didn’t respect Rockets enough. And lost a close one. Tatum ties up game. And leaves too much time on clock. Then Amen took over. Amen Thompson is a serious talent. Rockets never giving him up. He could become best 2Way player in game. He’s that good….. wow
He’s good, elite instincts on the defensive end ……. needs serious work on that jumper though, can’t live off lobs, points in the paint.
Did you see his gm winner. He absolutely owned J Brown. And he’s a good defender. Amen is a Rook. He’s all about the game. He’s special
Amen is not a Rook, and his offensive game needs a lot of work. Don’t get me wrong, I like the kid, but you may be reaching a bit on him right now.
You don’t know.ne. I don’t talk unless I know. And I never reach. Yeah his second yr. Still a rook to me. Try watching him, really watching. Like off the ball. You will see a high IQ. Instincts off the charts. On O and D. He’s got no weakness. His offense is still developing. If you watched the Celtics gm. You saw what he can be on O. He’s still adjusting to me. And I’m not scared to be wrong on talent. He’s got size, skill, IQ, instincts, talent. When he learns his team and L. The sky is the limit. I’m telling you right now. He has a chance to be best 2Way guy. Give him another 2-3 yrs.
Just so you know. I said it at draft. He’s the best 2Way talent in draft. And he hadn’t shown much offense yet. He’s in the right place.
And add to this. He’s an amazing athlete. Love to see him in dunk contest.
You sure like to listen to yourself talk… or type. Always telling people when you’re right, etc. Silly.
I only believe in myself. And my talents to see the game. I don’t care about right. That’s your ineptitude to argue a point. I apologize for knowing too much. Knowledge will always keep you in the game. I’m not all over the internet or other sports. I know ball. I talk ball clearly. Half the posters on here are geniuses and haters. Show me you got game. I can take it.
Talent. Lol.
Takes talent to see talent. Yeah I get you don’t get it. Why would you lol ……….
He’s basically herb Jones rn. Slow down. Needs to continue to grow offensively. Not saying he won’t, but needs to keep developing.
Herb Jones with elite athleticism and playmaking ability. So in other words, an all star caliber player
ffs man you are a clueless commentator on a website, you are not Marv Albert, not even Mark Jackson
grow up and stop pretending you are an expert
Sillivan Silly for sure
his winner came only cause kornet messed up the matchups, causing brown to freeze away from him. had kornet stayed on his man, we don;t know if he would have scored a winner
Good on the ROCKETS FO to let this year play out, see how deep they get, what they need – they’ll be flexible enough this offseason.
This to me rules out a deal being done before the deadline. If Monte was smart he’d pay the Kings ransom for Cam Johnson. Make an effort and hope Fox enjoys being a King before Rich Pauls claws get too deep (might be too late).
What a terrible day man.
Cam Johnson moves no ones needle. Dude is a 4th option on actual good teams, that isn’t worth a kings ransom.
Kings are out of picks mostly too so you would have to add in quality young players to get in the ballpark of the nets ask.
Kings have only traded a single first rounder. How does that translate to out of picks?
They shouldn’t do it anyways foe the record. But that statement isn’t true at all.
The protections mean they cant trade the next 3 because its protected through 28 and the 31 swap with SAS means that pick is not worth much. They can only trade like 1 pick because the ATL one screws up the next several till in conveys and the SAS means 1 of the couple they could trade is not going to be valued as a good 1st.
Okay Im not sure how this got lost in translation but obviously the Kings should not pay the Nets 4 1st for Johnson. Asking price for Johnson has been 1 solid player and 2 picks. Nobody is going to do that. So if the Kings offered 2 meh players and a pick? Who is beating that for Johnson? OKC? Have they shown any interest?
And besides the point, my trade idea was to entice Fox (or rather Rich Paul) to stay in Sac. If that’s destined to not happen, then the trade falls apart regardless.
You know you can make additional trades that lift or change restrictions? The heat just did it last off-season to make their picks more moveable. Just throw in a second to lift the restriction then all picks movable.
Yes for additional assets you can make your already traded picks better in order to free up additional ones to deal. Not sure its a good idea since a team will know what your doing and leverage it against you.
I’m telling you, GSW is angling to get both Fox and another big piece. Fox can be traded 1-1 when Moses Moody’s new contract starts.
Vooch Dray Jimmy/Giannis/KD Fox Steph is still a top 4 team in 2025, easily.
What do kids smoke nowadays.
Crack cocaine, and Thizz!

Best trolling yet from Davey, pure comedy gold.
I don’t see the Rockets making a play for Fox currently. They are already way ahead of the curve in their development, and would be better served seeing how good this group is and where weaknesses pop up in the playoffs before making a big move.
I think Fox to the Spurs is the most likely outcome.
Apparently San Antonio is the preferred destination. Good news for San Antonio and Fox. Sacramento starting again. Sabonis trade etc. Monk will walk.
Monk and Sabonis are signed for three years and DeRozan is around for two more years. They aren’t going to tear it down.
Only prolonging the road to nowhere once Fox leaves. Play in team atm with him, trade with San Antonio won’t make Sacramento better.
Make no mistake here. If Sac sells Fox, Sabonis is absolutely next. Id say the safest player on the roster is Monk when factoring in contract value.
Side note on that point– I’ve been intrigued by Sabonis in San Antonio for a while. Just think he’d be a fascinating fit next to Wemby, could clean up the glass and help run a dynamic offense while victor would cover him at the rim on D.
But doesn’t seem likely to happen if they’re lasered in on Fox… unless they traded for both somehow? But not sure that’d be wise, would have to sacrifice a lot of depth to make the $ work.
Rockets have FVV for another yr. They have Shepperd waiting to start. Can even move FVV at next yrs TD. Rockets don’t need a trade for a major talent. They are way ahead of schedule. Rockets just need to stay the course. Green, Sengun, Smith, Thompson all are major talents.
Team option on FVV too. They could let him go and create some cap space this offseason.
Just as well. Fox isn’t going anywhere until the offseason, and, then, only if he declines (again) to sign his extension. Same dance as CLE was in with DM going into last summer. DM signed. I’m guessing Fox will as well, but the alternative is unlikely to be free agency. More like a trade, and for the price multiple times what many here are assuming.
Fox is just overrated. he shots 3P worst than russel westborrk ffs
mitchell had almost 40 playoff games and 2 wiining playoff series when he was traded to the cavs and fox still has one lone series and 7 games
he’s more kemba walker than mitchell, a vey good player on a bad team
the kings should have traded him instead of haliburton
