The Clippers are trading guard Kevin Porter Jr. to the Bucks for forward MarJon Beauchamp, sources tell Shams Charania of ESPN (Twitter link).
Porter is a former first-round pick who played in Greece last season after multiple off-court incidents, including reaching a plea agreement for misdemeanor assault and harassment in January 2024 after allegedly attacking his girlfriend in September 2023. The Clippers gave him another NBA opportunity in July when they signed him to a two-year, minimum-salary contract. He holds a $2.55MM player option for 2025/26.
Porter is still under a league investigation for that September 2023 incident involving former WNBA player Kysre Gondrezick, according to Law Murray of The Athletic (Twitter link).
While the 24-year-old has been a rotation regular for Los Angeles, averaging 9.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.0 steal in 45 games (19.6 minutes), he has struggled with offensive efficiency (.423/.245/.645 shooting line) and turnovers (1.9 per game). The Clips have also been much better when he’s off the court (+5.4 points per 100 possessions) than when he’s on it (-1.4).
As ESPN’s Bobby Marks tweets, Porter will earn a trade bonus of $129,245 as a result of the deal.
Beauchamp is another former first-round pick who has seen his minutes steadily decline over the course of his three NBA seasons, making just 26 appearances in ’24/25 for an average of 4.7 minutes per contest. The Bucks declined their rookie scale team option on the 24-year-old wing last fall, so he’ll be an unrestricted free agent in the summer. He’s making $2.7MM this season.
No way this was 1:1 lol
Porter is a piece of garbage and he had guaranteed salary for next year. Not hard to believe it’s 1:1
Decent get for Bucks. Could be a decent bench scorer if his head is screwed on right.
They get a worse player but he doesn’t beat up his girlfriend
Obviously the Bucks needed to get another of their first round draft choices in Porter. Outside of Giannis, they don’t have any first rounders that they have drafted in the past 20 years. You can’t infuse young talent into your team with such a poor drafting record.
They haven’t even drafted that much in the past few years. From the positions they’ve been picking from, they are about league average in terms of hit/miss. Easier to hit when you are drafting top 5 every year like the Thunder and Rockets
Yet neither the Thunder or Rockets will pick that high this year. Sorry to ruin your narrative
Uhh Chet is the only top 5 OKC pick… Wallace and Jdub were end of lottery, Dieng was end of lottery, Dort Wiggins and Joe were undrafted/Fa/or 2nd round guys. Lin Williams was late pick. Nice try though.
Sorry *picking lottery every year*. The Bucks have had the #30 pick pretty much every year for that same five year stretch
Great so we added 2 guys that shoot 25% from deep. Sounds promising.
Bucks love outstanding citizens. Should fit in well and become a crowd favorite
Overall I think the Bucks knew if they did nothing at the deadline they would be blow away in the playoffs again like last year. Making moves tells me they mean business. Kuzma and KPJ are both good win now additions and I think having that freshness and hunger in the team could really help.
Kuzma for Middleton then KPJ for Beauchamp.
Cleveland, Boston and NY are the three big threats out east to the bucks. When matching up with Boston your almost even, Tatum on Giannas, Brown on Kuzma, Lopez vs KP, White/Holiday bs Dame. Pritchard vs KPJ and Horford vs Portis.
With Cleveland clog the paint and make they beat you from 3 with the starters and make them beat you in the inside with their bench. That’s a tough match up but I like it. As for NY, I don’t think OG stops Giannas and I don’t think Mikal/Hart stop Dame. Whereas down the other end Gianans and Lopez protect the rim enough that the Knicks have to shoot the 3 to win. They don’t have the best depth and they over play their starters meaning they will be tired or risk injury. Bucks have their number.
KPJ is a good move for bucks.
Another locker room, another locker. Smdh…
Who the hell is going to be the Clippers backup PG?!?!
