The five-team blockbuster sending Jimmy Butler from the Heat to the Warriors is now official, according to press releases from multiple clubs involved in the trade. The terms of the deal, which also includes the Jazz, Pistons, and Raptors, are as follows:
Warriors acquire Butler.
- Heat acquire Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson, Davion Mitchell, and the Warriors’ 2025 first-round pick (top-10 protected).
- Pistons acquire Dennis Schröder, Lindy Waters, and either the Warriors’ or Timberwolves’ 2031 second-round pick (whichever is least favorable; from Warriors).
- Jazz acquire KJ Martin, Josh Richardson, a 2028 second-round pick (from Pistons; exact details TBD), and either the Heat’s or Pacers’ 2031 second-round pick (whichever is most favorable; from Heat).
- Raptors acquire P.J. Tucker, the Lakers’ 2026 second-round pick (from Heat), and cash (from Heat).
Utah waived Jalen Hood-Schifino in order to acquire two players while sending one out, as we detailed earlier. They’re also expected to cut Richardson.
The deal wraps up a saga that first began on December 10 when word broke that the Heat were open to listening to offers for Butler. By Christmas Day, Butler was said to prefer a trade out of Miami, and a little over a week later he formally asked the team to move him.
The situation only escalated from there, with the Heat repeatedly suspending Butler for conduct detrimental to the team and withholding services. He was serving an indefinite team-imposed suspension when news broke on Wednesday that the Warriors had struck a deal to acquire him.
Butler, who will be teaming up in Golden State with longtime Warriors stars Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, has reportedly already agreed to a two-year, maximum-salary extension with the team, as we outlined in our original story on the trade. We also published full stories on two side deals involving the Heat and Raptors and Pistons and Jazz that were folded into this larger trade structure.
The latest word, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic (Twitter link), is that Saturday is the target date for Butler’s Warriors debut. Golden State will play in Chicago that night.
– Disappointing deadline for Det all in all
– Good on Gsw getting Anderson into the deal instead of expiring Payton or Looney
– I’m assuming that Tucker for Dav add on to the trade now kicks Mia below the tax too , small win there in an otherwise stinky package that they recieved -* Happy jimmy saga didn’t slip into the summer tho
Jimmy Again !!!!!!!
Nice, easy, consise trade.
That’s pretty bad when you have to get 5 teams involved to trade one disgruntled player lol sheesh!
HEAT did well given all the difficulty from Butler’s shenanigans.
Wiggins is a direct 2-way SF replacement for Butler …….. HEAT probably the best franchise to optimize Mitchell (see how Pelle Larsson defends now).
Slomo is dead-weight, should be waived …… they have enough on that bench.
I could see Slomo going back to GSW if he hits waivers
GSW gotta fill roster spots now…
Slomo is not hitting waivers he has 2 more years left on the contract.
Heat made out nice here, I think. If they wanna make a real run at the playoffs, Wiggins will at least help, and I feel like Mitchell is exactly the kinda dude that thrives with the Heat system. And that 1st could be useful. Not bad for unloading a guy who wasn’t ever going to play from them again.
Bam, Wiggs, Tyler is a nice big 3 tbh Wiggs fits nice there with no Butler.
Why would any team add a team cancer in exchange for anything? Not sure even Steph can make this work.
What?
Have you even been paying attention to basketball the last five years. This is basically Andrew Wiggins and a first round pick for Jimmy Butler.
Slow Mo was a free agent signing. Anybody can get a guy like that and Dennis Schrader is another guy just available as a free agent signing. Back up guard get a guy like that anywhere.
So you get casual Wiggins or mamba Jimmy? You’re a playoff team with dreams. Who do you want?
Warriors have decided in Curry’s last couple years to go for mamba Jimmy instead of casual Wiggins. Sure it’s a gamble but probably worth it. Lol. Probably.
Not to mention there aren’t many players who have missed more games over the last 3 years due to “personal reasons” than Andrew Wiggins. There’s being toxic in the clubhouse, and then there’s becoming a ghost for 2 quarters every game that we lose by a bucket.
THE REALITY:
Call it a season; tank to bottom 7-10 to try get back that first-rounder to Miami; ease Jimmy Buckets back and play him 15-20 minutes per game until maybe April; give Curry a month off for his various ailments; determine which G-Leaguers you like enough to warrant a spot on the 2025-26 roster; purposely give Kuminga more time to get in game shape and hope no one goes over the $25M per mark during his restricted free agency – offer him a contract in the 20M-range for each of the first 2 years before it jumps to the upper 30s/low 40s once Curry/Dray/Buckets are off the books; enjoy and reminisce during the final 2+ months of Looney/GP2 as members of the Warriors; maybe revisit Vucevic trade talks in May or June.
Not allowed to structure contracts that way. Raises are limited to something like 5-10% per year (I think it depends on the type of contract).
Post Green Butler Moody Curry isn’t as bad as you all think it is
Moses Moody?
That man should have his jersey taken away. His play is not worth the rubber that comes off the bottom of his sneakers after every contest. That’s a waste of a good pair of brand new basketball shoes.
His spot on the bench is not worth the water It takes to wash his clean, dry towel at the end of the game.
If the warriors don’t make the playoffs the good thing will be them able to keep their draft pick and fall into the lottery. they end up being 9th or 10th it will feel like a even worse trade because they play 1 game and out of the playoffs plus lose a good draft pick.
Cant wait for it to happen when on a play in game where if they win, theyll have the 11th best odds for the lottery. If they lose theyll have the 10th best odds for the lottery.
Itll be more sweet if they tanked to try and keep the pick. But someone leapfrogs them out of the protected pick range.
I just CANNOT wait until Jimminy-O & Dray-Dray have that one practice where they passive aggressively talk trash, then I dunno, Gui Santos tells them maybe they should cool it, and they level a couple city blocks just from the pressure of that one vein on their foreheads, yeeting poor Steph Curry into a reality where there’s no 3 point line.
I like Dennis in Detroit. With Ivey out. He can help them. Plus he brings the experience. And the attitude of showing up teams. That are giving up on him. Good move for Pistons. Be smart to resign him.
Warriors missed on Vucevic. Bad move imo.
I was thinking the same thing but that’s a pretty high cost. You’d give up the 25 pick for Butler and then the 27 pick for Vooch . Let’s see what happens in the buyout market.
The Jazz essentially have turned two off-season free agents, in Patty Mills and Drew Eubanks, into five second-round picks, JHS (waived), JRich (going to be waived), and KJ Martin (young prospect). Pretty impressive indeed!
