FEBRUARY 20: The Nets have officially signed Hayes and promoted Martin while waiving Bogdanovic, the team announced today. Martin’s contract is a multi-year deal, per the Nets.
FEBRUARY 19: The Nets are finalizing an agreement with G League guard Killian Hayes, who will sign a 10-day contract with the team, agent Yann Balikouzou tells Shams Charania of ESPN (Twitter link).
The Nets have an open spot on their 15-man roster but are also promoting Tyrese Martin from his two-way deal to a standard contract, so a second opening will be necessary. According to Charania (Twitter link), Brooklyn is creating that extra opening by waiving forward Bojan Bogdanovic.
The No. 7 overall pick of the 2020 draft, Hayes appeared in 210 games for the Pistons from 2020-24 but has been out of the NBA after being cut by Detroit last February. He averaged 8.1 points, 5.2 assists, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.2 steals in 26.1 minutes per game as a Piston and struggled with his shot, making just 38.2% of his attempts from the floor, including 27.7% of his three-point tries.
The French point guard signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Nets in the offseason, but he sustained a hip injury which caused him to miss all of Brooklyn’s preseason games and was subsequently waived prior to the 2024/25 campaign.
Since getting healthy, Hayes has been playing for the Long Island Nets, Brooklyn’s G League affiliate. In 28 total games for the NBAGL squad, he has averaged 16.8 points, 7.7 assists, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.3 steals in 33.9 minutes per contest, posting a shooting line of .467/.351/.692.
While some European-born prospects head back overseas when they can’t secure an NBA contract, Hayes viewed the G League as his best route back into the league and recently referred to an NBA return as his “only goal.” The 23-year-old will achieve that goal for at least 10 days — once that contract expires, the Nets would have the option of signing him to a second 10-day deal before having to make a decision on whether or not to retain him for the rest of the season.
Hayes will earn $128,603 on his 10-day deal with Brooklyn, while the team takes on a cap hit of $119,972.
Word broke earlier today that Bogdanovic would be undergoing season-ending surgery on his foot. Since he’s on an expiring contract and almost certainly wasn’t in the Nets’ plans beyond this season, he was a clear-cut candidate to be waived if and when the team needed a roster spot.
Other than getting angry and sucker-punching Mo Wagner, Killian Hayes has been a lame NBA player.
I hope you are not saying that one sucker punch to back of Moe’s head is a good thing
Of course not, otherwise I wouldn’t have called it a sucker-punch. But I’m not going to say it wasn’t the one and only “notable” moment in a rather lame showing in the NBA.
Honestly he has played steady minutes. He is still pretty young. Maybe one day he will get the shot down. I still think he should be in the NBA but he needs to show something right now.
He should have got in more trouble for that sucker punch. Maybe being out of the league opened his eyes a little
Luke, clearly he’s saying that it’s the most notable thing he’s done, which by the cont3xt, means a lot. Stop swinging context like your some snowflake PETA type, it’s worse when you go for the cheap heat trolling, which you clearly try to do, unsuccessfully I might add, as no one finds it clever to troll for the most part except 13 year Olds. Even then it was only funny when it came from 4chan kids before that desensitized everyone to just saying stupid stuff with no punchline. There’s truth to the “you can joke about anything as long as it’s funny”, and I have a great example that would probably get me banned from this site, and I don’t feel like making a new email Addy to get back on here, I love to make a point but not as much as I love basketball movement and this site had been a staple in my daily routine for over a decade.
What are you talking about haha. Calm down. Stop reflecting yourself like you are me. I think you are talking about yourself. You always attack people and give no basketball input. I only said it was a bad thing of Killian to do. What is wrong with you man child? Grow up and stop deflecting yourself onto everyone
Bogdanovic has no more value to the nets as a sign and trade piece.
He should be happy to get a minimum salary contract.
Not after the trade deadline. He is a good expiring contract

Turned 23 in December. At the draft his shot was considered a work in progress. Imo Monty never helped him. Should of been in G-league for first year. You draft a 19 yr old that high. Just on size and upside. You should be committed to making him a better player. Not expect results. Still has a chance. Better get with it. Rooting for him.
Al , I agree.
So many players drafted at 18/19 are being called washed up at 22. For those of us that know college basketball, it’s insane.
Right — 100%
It’s crazy how the NBA values youth to the degree they do in the draft just to waive a 1st rounder two years later or let a guy walk at age 21 when his contract expires. Look at some recent “older” draftees who have shown their competency in the NBA but were drafted after guys who proved nowhere near ready (and thus were a wasted pick for their team): Jaquez, Strawther, Jalen Williams, Braun, Nembhard, Murphy, Grimes, Herb Jones, Jackson-Davis, Camara, Bane, Reed, Alvarado (UDFA), Hauser (UDFA), etc. And that’s excluding sophomores and ignoring the 2024 draft, which looks like it may produce some good “older” talent.
I’m not saying any of those guys deserved to be top 5 or anything but there were countless useless 18/19 year olds drafted in front of them those years that were wasted picks.
Tank commander coming in

Good for Killian for getting another shot. He had a lot of hype coming into the draft but most Pistons fans wanted Tyrese Haliburton. It was Donovan Mitchell 2.0
This is a proud moment for Kevin O’Connor.
OUCH.
Now sign Wiseman
