Cross the Warriors off the list of potential Jimmy Butler suitors, at least for now.
Butler has communicated to the Warriors that he’s unwilling to sign an extension there, reports Brian Windhorst of ESPN (Twitter link). In response, trade talks between the Heat and Warriors have halted, according to Windhorst.
The Warriors are reportedly interested in making a significant move before the trade deadline and Butler was one of the logical candidates to fulfill that goal. However, it’s well-known that Butler wants to be dealt to the Suns, who are hamstrung in making a blockbuster move because they’re operating over the second tax apron.
The only way Phoenix can complete such a deal to allow Butler to join forces with Devin Booker and Kevin Durant would be to send out Bradley Beal‘s contract. Miami hasn’t shown any interest in acquiring Beal, who has two years remaining on his contract after this season, including a $57.1MM option for 2026/27. Beal also has a no-trade clause and would have to agree to waive it whether he was routed to Miami or a third party.
The Suns are still the team pushing the hardest to land Butler ahead of Thursday’s deadline, the Miami Herald’s Anthony Chiang reports. In any Butler trade, the Heat want to acquire at least one quality player who can help the team this season, Chiang adds.
Butler, who has been suspended indefinitely by Miami for repeated violations of team rules, holds a $52.4MM option on his contract for next season.
Golden State also seriously explored trade proposals to acquire both Zach LaVine and Nikola Vučevic from the Bulls before opting to pursue other deals, NBA insider Marc Stein tweets. LaVine is on the move to Sacramento.
Dubs dodged that bullet!
Came here to say exactly that.
Nah they just sobered up.
Warriors was never in on him. They don’t have the payroll to send the heat in a trade.
We know they don’t, so if the heat or another team include another valuable piece, then the Warriors win with the couple of guys coming in.
Vooch is really all they need here tbh. Post and Santos are breaking out. Develop them.
I agree a quality center would do wonders for this team.
Sheldon which quality Center are you saying is available that the Warriors can acquire?
Nikola Vučević aka Vooch
You said a week ago that Post was Vooch?
You seriously want to trade for Vooch?
Ok, what do you do with Post? He’s not Vooch anymore? Send him back to the G league. Or do you have 2 Vooch?
HA HA No…
Davey, I’m giving you 5 days notice so you can relax and sit down and have a cup of coffee and some toast.
The Warriors are not trading for this Vooch guy from Chicago. No no no no no. Unless it’s Green for Vooch, no no no no no.
Unless it’s Vooch for some scrub in the G league we have never heard of his name before and will never play for the Warriors, no no no no no !!
Why would you be so opposed to acquiring a guy averaging 20 and 10 (with a 39.4% 3PT%) in less than 3 full quarters of play?
They should–and I presume would–offer much more than Green or some G-League players.
Why doesn’t Chicago think he’s a keeper and worthy of their build and championship run of the future?
Why has he been on the trading block for 3 years?
He has a lot of talent, but I don’t think he’s a championship center. He’s an Indiana Pacers Charlotte Hornets, Chicago Bulls, Orlando Magic, Portland trailblazer Utah Jazz Toronto Raptors type starting center.
He’s not a Bucks, Knicks Lakers Warriors OKC Timberwolves Celtics Rockets, type starting center. You won’t win a ring with him in your defensive scheme in the playoffs. Just my opinion.
Probably because he’s 34 and Chicago won’t even sniff competing for 2 years minimum. He’s a win-now piece, not a win-later piece. I don’t think him bring traded is a guarantee though.
And I’m not really sure what you mean by trying to move him for 3 years. They traded for him in 2021 so they’ve only had him for slightly over three years. Since they haven’t been good during that time, people have been saying they SHOULD move him while his value is high, but they dug their heels in and were vehemently opposed to considering that. This is the first year they’ve had him that they’ve seemed even slightly open to moving any of their pieces, him included. They still might not. It doesn’t seem like they’re actively shopping him so much as willing to move him if the right offer comes.
He shot like crazy the first 6 weeks of the season and has made 30% from 3 since just like he did all last year. I dont trust his shooting he isnt a lob threat and his defense is terrible.
I’m not sure where this narrative that he’s terrible on D came from but he’s not. He was 9th in defensive rating last season. That’s probably not his true level, but it’s somewhere in between that and terrible. In other words, average.
He is slow footed and sort of one dimensional. He forces you to play certain types of defense and cant give you versatility.
That’s true, but he’s still pretty solid in the post and is good at taking away passing lanes. Either way, he’s not atrocious. The stats don’t lie. He’s an average-ish defender with a good, albeit limited, offensive game.
Gary, what are you talking about? Its trade deadline week, baby! Let every take rip!
I know Davey, it’s like New Year’s Eve and Christmas combined.
But we want gifts from the Guuci store, not Walmart.
RWIII >>>>>> Vucevic
Too injury prone/not a scorer. Vooch better. Also Vooch is cheap.
I hope that’s not a serious take. Williams isn’t even in the same stratosphere as Vucevic.
But a better fit for the Warriors and should come even cheaper.
That’s fine. That doesn’t mean he’s better or even a needle mover.
Go for LeBron in FA
Would have taken Draymond, and not sure if they’d have enough room to have enough guys on the roster, so makes sense
Butler isn’t serious.
Will Warriors circle back to Vucevic?
Hopefully not!
They should.
Why pour $20 million down the drain next year for a no defense, lead in his shoes, weight belt wearing, one dimensional jump shooting big man?
How many playoff series has Vooch won? Seriously? That’s a serious question.
You know they are going to, one more 7 footer is what everyone said was the one thing this team was missing on opening night.
I lik3d the idea of having a guy who could get you points from the line at the end of games. But other than that I don’t think Jimmy fits anyway. $20 Miami doesn’t move him because he won’t sign anywhere but PHX and no one is taking that Beal contract
Clippers
This headline almost gave me a heart attack
Who is in charge here? Not Butler!! You play for the team you’re under contract to or you sit. If they want to trade you somewhere you don’t want to go…tough shot! You’ve been a cancer EVERYWHERE you’ve been Butthead!!
GSW stay away from Butler! He’s not worth the headaches.
Prayers answered this evening. Thank goodness !!
The Heat and Butler kind of deserve each other at this point. The situation could have for sure been better handled by all parties involved. I’d be surprised if Butler ends up getting dealt at this point.
what exactly should the Heat have done differently? Let him being a complete and total cancer to the organization? Give him a contract literally no sane team would, crippling the team for 5+ years? Allow him to be a man child to his teammates? What?
“https://allucanheat.com/how-miami-heat-got-here-timeline-jimmy-butler-drama” The link is about a month old and its probably not the entire story, but everyone involved looks pretty responsible for the mess they’re dealing with. Was there no communication at all between anyone involved? Obviously I’m not in the know but from the outside looking in it looks like both sides had an agenda and just decided to do whatever they wanted without even talking to each other.
VUCEVIC ISN’T THE ANSWER. THEY MISSED THEIR OPPORTUNITY BY DOING NOTHING BUT GETTING SMALLER IN THE OFF-SEASON. TIME TO BLOW IT UP STARTING WITH OVERRATED GREEN.
Is your keyboard broken?
GOOD POINT. RIGHT ON SUBJECT.
If you aren’t getting im gonna say it to your face. Learn to type properly. Even in kindergarten they teach this ..
It’s just one of daveasfsmartyfaninlexington’s multiple accounts. Pay this post no mind.
Orlando Miami and Phoenix can get a deal done
Beal to Orlando
Butler to Phoenix
Miami picks up Cole Anthony Gary Harris Kaldwell Pope and other filler which I figure Miami will reroute those elsewhere for different needs.
Financially it works. Probably toss in some picks or something somewhere
Beal gets dealt to a “contender” with Wagner Panchero Suggs already there so he’d form a new “big four” with that young core and would go back to sg with Suggs at Pg. Beal also gets dealt to a warm climate
Miami rids themselves of the butler drama and picks up some assets to make other trades with. Someone suggested a deal involving Anthony and olynk from the raptors
And phoenix well good luck with butler.
Jonathan Isaac, Anthony Black, Jett Howard, Corey Joseph, and picks for Jimmy
1) Beal isn’t going to Orlando.. not a chance he says yes to that 2) the heat take scrap players with dead money contracts that go past 2026 (the one thing they do not want)???? 3) what is “filler”… the heat have a 15 man roster… you already have them taking three contracts… how many to make money work? 5? 7? Name the players the heat are cutting to make your fantasy of the heat tanking a reality for me.
1. Orlando fits his desire to to go to a contender in a warm climate
Banchero Suggs Wagner when healthy the Magic are a good team. Beal only adds on to that core. So saying “nut uh” doesn’t disprove anything I said when Orlando fits the criteria Beal has expressed to waive his NTC
2. Reading isn’t your strong suit
“ Miami picks up Cole Anthony Gary Harris Kaldwell Pope and other filler which I figure Miami will reroute those elsewhere for different needs.
Miami rids themselves of the butler drama and picks up some assets to make other trades with. Someone suggested a deal involving Anthony and olynk from the raptors“
3 contracts actually makes the money work for all involved.
They’d probably cut Harris who is just salary filler but could package Anthony and Kaldwell Pope elsewhere for someone or add Harris too. Heat aren’t obligated to keep the Orlando players.
Trading butler doesn’t mean heat are tanking lmao. He’s not playing anyways due to constantly being suspended. Might as well get what you can and acquire some guys who will actually play and help.
Tl:dr?
Warriors should be focused on Vucevic. He makes a difference on Warriors. Plus he helps Dre survive longer.
Damn.. I was hoping to watch the Draymond and Jimmy dumpster fire…
Is there any way the Warriors can get Ayton? Stephen Adams? Olynyk? Vucevic may not be the answer as far as a stand out option goes…but to improve they need some size and decent players….
What would it take to swap Kuminga for a team orientated player who is not over 60 and declining…
Thunder, grizz and rockets so young and rosters just look so deep and so much upside…. Time for a warriors fire sale.
Son long as the warriors fans think something is in the works lil
Jock Landale could probably be had from the Rockets for cheap, maybe GSW tries that?
Preemptively burning bridges is a bold strategy for an aging player. We’ll see how it pans out.
Fine with me. He’s 35 and a pain in the butt, and we’re not a contender this year.
Just cut Butler and be done with it. No team will sign the most overpaid player in the league.
