4:22 pm: Post’s promotion to the 15-man roster is official, according to NBA.com’s transaction log.
1:47 pm: The Warriors are promoting Quinten Post from a two-way contract to a two-year standard deal, agents George Roussakis and Mark Bartelstein tell Shams Charania of ESPN (Twitter link).
The news was expected, as Michael Scotto of HoopsHype recently reported that Golden State planned to convert Post, a rookie big man from the Netherlands who played his college ball at Mississippi State and Boston College.
Converting Post will help the Warriors navigate the first-apron hard cap. Because he was a second-round pick in the 2024 draft, Post can be signed for the prorated rookie minimum, which only counts for about half as much for cap and apron purposes as a prorated veteran’s minimum deal would.

Post didn’t make his first NBA appearance until 30 games into the 2024/25 campaign, but he has been a rotation regular of late, averaging 8.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists on .443/.372/1.000 shooting over the past 10 games, including starting each of the past five contests (17.1 MPG).
The Warriors had four openings on their standard roster after sending out multiple players in their blockbuster trade to acquire Jimmy Butler. Post will take one of those spots, and by promoting him, Golden State now has a two-way opening as well.
The team likely won’t be in a hurry to fill the rest of its open standard roster spots, since it doesn’t have a ton of breathing room below its hard cap.
His on off numbers have been bad, but with everything else, he seems like the potential floor spacing big he seemed like in the draft, which they need. Admittedly, I haven’t had much opportunity to see him since he started getting minutes, so he may have been in wonky lineups with Schroder or something, which brought those on/off numbers down so much…
Not sure who they can or can’t sign/how much room they have below their hardcap to get to 14, but there are guys already out there that could help them, like Josh Richardson if he is healthy, or possibly giving Justin Hood Schafino a look…they need help at the 2/3 regardless
His defense is better than expected just needs time to be a good center. He can shoot the 3 ball.
Ya I saw him in his draft, and earlier on, and the numbers all suggested the stuff I was saying to people about him in the offseason, but his on/off numbers are really bad, so something has been off, but again, it’s probably b/c he’s been in bad lineups with Schroder, who was a massive negative
His defense is poor so far with a lot of fouls.
Ya he was foul prone in the scouting video
His D is pretty bad , has trouble moving his feet horizontally and vertically – Causes him to reach get into bad position / foul wayyy too much
They should sign JHS and Wiseman
Wiseman has a torn ACL.
That was three injuries ago, Bruh. Achilles.
I think JHS is eligible for a two-way contract so he’s a possibility. Since they’re dancing around the apron, they may have to get creative with ten-day contracts to keep the main roster at 14 players for the minimum required time.
Post is a great value at the pro-rated rookie minimum
As is TJD at just a bit more.
Is there a greater testimony to the GSW commitment to small-ball than the combined salary of their 3 centers (Post, TJD and Looney) being less than $11M/yr ?
They also have Draymond…
And Butler…
But they shouldn’t trust either to guard a 5…
Championship confirmed baby!
Someone’s over reacting. Let me guess. You are 5’2″.
And youve never seen sarcasm in your life.
That was supposed to be sarcasm? Maybe you need a new job.
No wonder America aint great anymore.
Too many wannabe princes over there…
Post is as I expected from a 4 year Boston College starter, those types who get drafted usually don’t become unplayable instantly in the NBA (maybe there’s examples, in general no). I don’t know why so many on here said he was “unplayable” defensively, when his footwork is already superb, its just a case of figuring out how to use that footwork on defense, as well as being the big body 7 footer GSW needs desperately just to go bodies with other 7 footers so they dont get unlimited points going against Podz.
The problem with GSW is once again, Steve Kerr refusing to play more than 1 of Post, Looney or TJD at once, when other teams do that all the time, and destroy GSW while doing so. Post is looking like a future scorer like Vooch already is a scorer, so he should always be out there, but GSW has to stop going smaller after him and play one of Looney and TJD, like, at least to mix it up. Kerr NEVER does this, its insanity. Kerr gotta go for real…
Kerr aside, Warriors are definitely building something while trying to contend and not waste Steph’s prime, doing little might be their best move tbh. Kuminga, Moody, Podziemski, Post, Jackson-Davis and Santos are a solid youth core that many posters on here are massively underrating right now.
The copuim is really high on this one.
Huh? What? Your Napoleon Complex is showing.
You missed the joke but lets carry on.
What joke?
Since you asked, you!
Maybe this will shut up the morons who keep saying that Kerr refuses to play 7 footer. His quest for a 7 footer made international news. People don’t seem to understand that it takes big men longer to develop. Post is able slide in easily because he had 4 years of college ball. That is what stunted Wiseman’s growth, that and Covid, a knee injury…He should go to Europe.
And stop with the crap about Kerr only playing “small-ball”. The NBA was playing it before Kerr was drafted. Centers don’t just pop up like your tick-tock videos.

Giants74, small-ball can work if you have the personnel, and if used at the right times. The Warriors proved that 2105-2022. But when your skill players lose their athleticism with age (Steph, Klay, Dray), you have to add quality bigs, either by trade or FA. Since 2023, we’ve been both slow and small.
Many bigs have been available, but GSW hasn’t prioritized the need. Kerr says, “we are who we are” — meaning we go small. That includes not carrying more size on the deep bench, a failing that has cost us many games against larger teams.
I absolutely agree with you on the time required to develop bigs (like Wiseman). In retrospect, the Warriors should have either, one stuck with him or, two traded for or signed a true big in 2023.
Here we are in 2025, post trade deadline, with, arguably, the least capable bigs in the NBA. “We are who we are”.
Also important to note: GSW has 3 open spots and 1 2W spot open now. They can add 4 players as long as they aren’t costly.
But they won’t, because they are so close to the tax apron. And next year, the tax apron will again restrict their ability to fill out their bench. For the most part they will be limited to minimum salary players unless they make some other moves.
I mean most buyout guys are mins this time of year. They could also sign some guys to cheap 10 day stop gap deals and see if any pop and then offer a full contract.
They need to be creative. You can remain below 14 players for up to two weeks before you fill the 14th spot. A 10-day contract can do that. I suppose when it ends, the clock restarts for 14 days. Last I saw before the Post upgrade, they were about $650k below the apron. I guess the partial season, rookie minimum contract takes about half of that.
Guy needs to learn to move his feet better
Constantly outta position is causing him to reach/foul at way too high of a clip
Hes got more passing chops than I thought which truly helps in the GSW offence moving forward. He’s a good get as a half a cheap C combo that many orgs are following these days
Warriors promote themselves to a late lotto team. Congrats on a 10-year limbo.
