2:00 pm: The deal is official, the Pelicans announced in a press release.
12:23 pm: Free agent center Mohamed Bamba is signing a 10-day contract with the Pelicans, agents Mark Bartelstein and Greer Love tell Shams Charania of ESPN.
As our roster count tracker shows, New Orleans currently has an opening on its 15-man roster, which means no corresponding move will be necessary to add Bamba.
Bamba, 26 was traded from the Clippers to the Jazz ahead of last month’s deadline and was subsequently released by Utah. He has been a free agent since early February.
A former lottery pick, Bamba was unable to carve out a consistent role in his four-plus seasons with Orlando, the team that selected him sixth overall back in 2018. He was traded to the Lakers in February 2023, but only played nine games for the club due to injury.
Bamba signed a one-year, minimum-salary contract with Philadelphia in the summer of 2023. Last offseason, he inked the same type of deal with the Clippers.
In 28 games with the Clips in 2024/25, Bamba averaged 4.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.0 block in 12.6 minutes per contest. He posted a shooting slash line of .466/.300/.680 while backing up Ivica Zubac.
As Charania notes, Bamba has been playing for the Pelicans’ G League affiliate — the Birmingham Squadron — since he was cut by the Jazz. He has appeared in four games for the Squadron, averaging 21.0 PPG, 14.5 RPG and 1.8 BPG on .517/.435/.667 shooting in 30.8 MPG.
Bamba will serve as a depth piece in a Pelicans frontcourt that also features Yves Missi, Zion Williamson, Kelly Olynyk and Karlo Matkovic, among others.
Just sign Moses Brown to a contract. Then trade D Murray for anything (even for a bag of peanuts and two dollars would be win for NOP) next off season. D Murray’s contract looks horrible now
Sign Moses Brown and let Bamba’s 10 day expire
They should sign M Brown. He has upside still. I agree. Still like Mamba for a team. That will use him as rim protector. I believe he can be as good if not better than Mitch. Don’t understand why teams don’t do it that way. Defense and rebounding.
Good call. I wouldn’t mind my Celtics signing him, since it’s pretty obvious at this point that Porzingis doesn’t want to play.
Yeah, That’s exactly what “your Celtics” need.
He’ be great behind Horford, Kornet, Queeta, and Tillman.
Tillman is a complete waste of a roster spot. You can never have too much front court depth, that’s all I meant. I think you have issues with any women with an opinion.
Tillman is a good 3rd string PF
Both Moses Brown and Bamba would work on the Knicks. You have one to many guards. I understand Wright is a defensive PG but they already had many guards. Shamet is playing okay right? His numbers are down but with less minutes. I honestly don’t watch the NBA anymore. It’s to hard to watch. No dribbling, along with dribbling violations and no defense so it’s not credible
If they are having a money issue then waive Dadiet because someone will pick him up
Funny. He is with his 4th team in a year. He was replaced by Ben Simmons. Undoubtedly, someone will say that the Warriors should have signed him…Uh…Why?
You didn’t have to wait long.
Better than Alex Len. Why Moses Brown is not on an NBA roster is beyond me.
You can say the same for A LOT of 7-8 year veterans
Noel punching air right now
Why won’t the Warriors sign Mo. Just 15 mins a game. He gives you rebounding and rim protection. And they are a better team for it.
The Warriors are #3 in the league in rebounds. So, that is not an issue. He is not very mobile. With Kuminga coming back, it might be hard to find him 5 minutes on a team that is playing really well.
The playoffs are coming. Why wouldn’t a playoff team. Add a player they can use. Rim protection is for every team. You play 12. Makes no sense to me. Lakers too. Bamba is better than Hayes.
