D’Angelo Russell is in his second stint with the Nets after being traded from the Lakers this season. Russell becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer and is hoping to re-sign with Brooklyn, he confirmed to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
“Why wouldn’t I? I keep seeing stuff coming out. I’ll tell you. Heck yeah. I want to be wherever I’m at,” Russell said. “I’m here. I love these guys. I appreciate this, and I would love to be back.”

Russell feels he has developed a solid relationship with first-year coach Jordi Fernandez.
“I’m at the point in my career where I’m not going out and scoring 25 points every night and wowing with numbers,” he said. “It’s a point where I’m trying to gravitate towards doing it the right way, and how I can contribute to winning is my priority. (Fernandez) lets me do that. He trusts me already, so I can imagine getting to training camp for something like that and having that under my belt with the guys. I think the sky’s the limit.”
We have more on the Nets:
- Cam Thomas is eligible to become a restricted free agent after the season. While he’s a proven scorer, Thomas still leaves much to be desired in other aspects of his game, Brian Lewis of the New York Post writes. Fernandez has challenged him to become more efficient and well-rounded, especially as a defender and facilitator. However, he’s still very much a work in progress. Lewis notes that Charlotte aggressively trapped Thomas during the Nets’ fourth-quarter collapse on Saturday. The fourth-year guard has also struggled to stay on the court, missing 81 games over the last three seasons due to injury.
- Brooklyn snapped a seven-game losing streak by upsetting the Lakers on Monday and Noah Clowney played a big role with a team-high 19 points and five rebounds. Clowney was playing in just his second game since recovering from an ankle injury that caused him to miss 15 games. The 2023 first-round pick has been a backup at power forward, but it would behoove the organization to give him steady minutes to see if he can be their starting power forward over the long haul, Lewis suggests.
- Fernandez was pleased with the effort the team put forth against one of the Western Conference’s elite teams on Monday vs. the Lakers, according to Lewis. “So happy for the guys, proud of the guys, because after losing seven in a row … it’s just good to get back to winning,” he said. “It’s a good reward for the work. And obviously, after a bad one, it’s a good feeling.”
Sign Wiseman. Perfect age with Thomas. Or go younger
The Nets like the Jazz need to make the right decisions from this moment on or they will mess everything up like what San Antonio has doing (even though silver is trying his best to help, here’s a Fox) Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes building with Wemby and thinking they will compete for a championship hahaha
Imagine a young Tim Duncan with this group ( now to the four casuals who thought I was serious, you know who you are, no he wouldn’t win a thing)
San Antonio did to Wemby what Atlanta has done to Trae (even though they are finally figuring something out)
Sarcasm or are you just drunk?
Ain’t no way to build around Trae…. Just tank and find a better star…
I should have clarified. What I meant is that when Atlanta started with Trae, Atlanta started rushing and threw all their money around at veterans, it was just a waist of time. The Spurs are doing the same thing instead of building around Wemby they are just throwing money at old veterans who won’t do anything. They should rebuild with young players to develop with Wemby instead of going for veterans who won’t do anything
Yes Trae is not who I would build a team around
Plus I don’t drink I smoke
Fox isn’t that old, Barnes is s professional and CP3 is questionable but has shown the ability to open passing lanes that weren’t seen last year… That will help Fox and Castle…
I am not onboard with CP3 as an influence or reason to win…
The Spurs are just one high quality wing away now… Someone who can play the 4 next to Fox, Castle, Vassel and Wemby…
They have a few that could develop into that but one solid draft pick is all it takes…
Personally I don’t get why Nets won’t tank for Cooper. He is worth it 100%. Can’t blame any rebuilding team for doing it. So witn 17gms left. Looks like Nets will be 4-6. There I see them going for a PG. A real PG accelerates the rebuilding. Picking there best available might not be a true PG.
VJ Edgecombe big upside, think Jalen Green. Maluach big time Center prospect. Tre Johnson SG with size, not my pick. Boggie Fland is a real PG, like him. Nets can’t pass on Maluach or VJ imo. If they are gone. There are a few PGs available.
Clowney is a real talent at the 4. He’s long and can play out side. He should be ready to fight for a starting job. Nets have 4 (#1) picks. In a deep draft. They do this right. They can load up next year.
they are tanking… but they have a new young coach who wants to win and reset the culture. Finishing with the worst record guarantees nothing. Ask the Pistons.
The Nets are lined up for a quick turnaround with 4 FRPs and more cap space than anyone else. They’ll be a playoff team next season.
There’s the Process style tanking…
And
Culture building tanking…
The Nets have a lot of good role players that they need to flesh out in a competitive mind set…
They could land a Giannis or Jokic in the draft… No need to completely bottom out…
I honestly like Tre Johnson more than Edgecombe
They did tank by trading away Bridges DFS and Schroder, there’s like 8 teams tanking so you don’t just automatically become the worst team lol especially when you have a good coach
The fight for the 6th spot could be epic. The Sixers desperately need to get 6th or worse to avoid conveying their pick to OKC. But the Nets have a much tougher schedule the rest of the way. The Nets might not win 5 more games. Right now Nets, Sixers and Raptors are all at 22 wins I believe and fighting for the 5th, 6th & 7th spots.
