Arkansas guard Boogie Fland has announced (via Instagram) that he’s declaring for the 2025 NBA draft. While Fland, who just finished his freshman year with the Razorbacks, has the option of testing the draft waters and retaining his NCAA eligibility, his statement makes no mention of that plan, so it sounds like he’s preparing to go pro.
Fland, who won’t turn 19 until July, appeared in 21 games for Arkansas in his first – and potentially only – college season, averaging 13.5 points, 5.1 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.5 steals in 31.8 minutes per contest. He made just 37.9% of his field goal attempts, including 34.0% of his three-pointers.
Fland underwent thumb surgery in January that was expected to end his season, but he returned to action for the NCAA Tournament last month. He wasn’t particularly effective in his three games back from the injury though, scoring just 12 total points on 4-of-18 shooting in 53 minutes against Kansas, St. John’s, and Texas Tech.
The 18-year-old ranked 48th overall on the latest 2025 draft big board from ESPN’s Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo.
Here are several more draft-related notes:
- ESPN’s Jeremy Woo spoke to NBA executives and scouts about current and past NBA comparables for projected No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg and got some interesting responses. Woo zeroes in on five of those players – Jayson Tatum, Kawhi Leonard, Lamar Odom, Scottie Pippen, and Andrei Kirilenko – and outlines the traits Flagg shares with each of them, as well as those he doesn’t.
- While Duke’s three projected lottery picks (Flagg, Khaman Maluach and Kon Knueppel) will be the headliners of Final Four weekend for NBA evaluators, there are plenty of other prospects to keep an eye on in the showdowns of No. 1 seeds featuring Duke vs. Houston and Florida vs. Auburn. Kevin O’Connor of Yahoo Sports shines a spotlight on several of those players, including Houston guard Milos Uzan, Auburn big man Johni Broome, and Florida guard Walter Clayton Jr.
- After leading the ACC in scoring as a sophomore, Notre Dame guard Markus Burton has decided to remain with the Fighting Irish for at least one more year rather than entering the transfer portal or testing the draft waters, agent Ron Shade tells ESPN’s Givony (Twitter link).
- Here are a few more of the prospects who have announced they’re testing the draft waters this spring as early entrants:
- Mohammad Amini, G, Nancy Basket, France (born 2005) (Instagram link)
- John Blackwell, G, Wisconsin (sophomore) (Instagram link)
- Xaivian Lee, G, Princeton (junior) (Twitter link via Givony)
- Note: Also entering transfer portal.
- Yanic Konan Niederhauser, F, Penn State (junior) (Instagram link)
Clayton would be perfect in GS
Not enough size. He’s maybe 6-4 and not a pure point guard. He has a nice shot, but it’s not as sweet as it should be. He shoots more from the side of his head rather than straight out in front of his nose. That’ll lower his percentage in the very long run. He’s more a clutch player than he is a pure shooter.
I think at the next level he’s going to be a great combo guard off the bench. Very strong and I think his love in high school was football. Played DB and wide receiver.
For my liking, he’s a little too casual, but his fans will say he’s composed. That’s great, but I would sure love a little more intensity rather than sitting back and waiting till the end of the game and playing hero ball.
I just like him because his 3pt shot and can lead a team, they need a PG prospect. I’m just thinking where they select he could be available. I think getting a young PG to learn from Curry would be great for everyone
Is there someone you like in the draft or a PG prospect they could find in the draft?
Yeah, that’s a great question. I think they need a faster guy than Clayton. Clayton is one of those combo guys who is very strong. Maybe he’s Malik Monk? Nice shot 6-4 combo guy. Can run an offense and shoot the ball.
But yeah, great question. I’m not sure who would be the perfect guy to pick? Clayton is a great player, but I don’t think he matches up for the Warriors. They already have that not super fast but good ball handler combo guy in Podski.
KnicksAI loves Fland as a PG prospect
I’d have to look, but did the Warriors give up their 2025 pick to the heat in the Jimmy Butler trade?
Clayton is actually 6’2 and a PG. He shoots really well from 3 but yes not a super athlete. He is good at shooting of screens. Not a pure PG like you said but some called Curry that once.
I had to look it up and GS has two 2nd rd picks in the upcoming draft. I’ll look at some more PG’s.
Do you like anyone in the 2nd rd?
Payton, Looney and Kuminga as free agents next season. Some choices. I would keep in this order Kuminga, Looney then Payton if possible but probably not
I haven’t really looked at draft and roster stuff for next season because I still have a lot of hope for this season so the focus is still here and now.
So you probably know a lot more than I do about who the Warriors could get.
But yes, interesting questions. I’ll definitely keep my eye open in regards to the things you bring up here.
So ah I forgot when I looked again that this draft class is weak of late PG’s. Someone might be able to find a diamond but idk. Honestly there isn’t really anybody in the 2nd rd for PG’s other than Clayton and Kam Jones. Kam Jones has improved a lot every season playing 4 years of college ball
I would think young players would be better off financially as a college free agent than as a late second round pick.
Cooper Flagg is not like those players. He’s Bird with athleticism, or could be. Similar to Tatum. As they can both play the 4. Are true 3s with size. Positional size with talent. Is what helps take you to next level. See Jason now as opposed to when he came in. Cooper at this age is far ahead in yrs as Bron was. Knows the game and plays it instinctively now. That is a big time talent. That many don’t even acquire in a career. This is why he is generational. He doesn’t even try to score. It just like presents itself. Its crazy really. By far #1 pick. Don’t want to see him in Utah. Will never understand why Bklyn didn’t tank for him.
Boggie Fland is a nice talent. Not playing will hurt him. But its great for whoever gets him late. Still see him going top 20. Is very raw still. Has a big future if you just are patient with him. Johni Broome should be a lottery pick imo. I now have seen him in late first round. I think he could go top 20 also. Especially with success this weekend. He will move up. A late first round pick ?? Then I pray Knicks buy a pick and take him. Knicks should buy a pick this year. It’s a deep first round.
The NBA won’t allow him to go to Utah. Not a chance in a gazillion years. Utah is still in tank mode next year and the year after, there’s no way the NBA burns the first two years of Cooper Flagg in a small market.
Deep deep deep sleepers maybe if given a chance Tyon Grant-Foster, Blake Harper, Jamal Mashburn Jr, Anthony Roy, Kam Jones, Jaron Pierre, PJ Haggerty, Eric Dixon, Walter Clayton, Trenton McLaughlin, Maxime Raynoud, Jacksen Moni, Abdul Bashir and Mark Sears if they declare
Markus Burton should consider declaring this year. He led his team in every single category last year and he improved more this year leading his team in points that I know his sophomore year. It might be best if he stays in school and improve more but only thing about him is he is 5’11
Flagg makes sense only for Nola
or raptors. (provided that they trade Quickley quickly if they acquire #1 pick).
Barnes,RJ,Ingram,Flagg,Poetl. That’s a starting 5 of everyone 6’6 or taller.
Raps have enough guards and wings though so hopefully they get the #2 pick and select Cooper’s teammate Maluach….
