The Knicks added P.J. Tucker on a standard two-year contract but they could still add another player to the 15-man roster within the next couple weeks, Ian Begley of SNY TV tweets.
There’s enough wiggle room under the second apron to add another veteran free agent on a minimum deal before the end of the regular season. However, the team would need to waive a player in order to create room on the roster to sign another free agent.
We have more on the Knicks:
- Delon Wright and Landry Shamet are getting steady minutes with Jalen Brunson, Miles McBride and Cameron Payne on the mend. Wright, a defensive stopper, and Shamet, an offensive threat, could still play roles as the backcourt gets healthier, Andrew Crane of the New York Post writes. Wright started his third consecutive game on Tuesday against Philadelphia, while Shamet has delivered double-digit scoring off the bench in three of the last four games. Coach Tom Thibodeau appreciates Wright’s defensive prowess. “He’s got great size at his position,” Thibodeau said. “That’s his gift, is his defense, and he gets a lot of deflections.” Both players are on expiring contracts.
- The return of Mitchell Robinson from ankle and foot injuries has impacted the defense, according to Begley and Robinson’s teammates. The team had the sixth-best defensive rating in March, its best ranking in any month this season. “The last month and a half, he’s been a monster defensively,” Josh Hart said. “Blowing up screens, blowing up handoffs, like a free safety on that backside.”
- Robinson got a chance to start on Tuesday as Karl-Anthony Towns was ruled out due to a knee injury, Fred Katz of The Athletic tweets. Towns has appeared in 67 of 75 games.
Mitch 20 mins 14 pts, 14 reb. rounding into shape
Grimes 36 mins 26 pts. 24 yrs old. Nice to see players find their game. You can let adversity and negativity. Define your growth. Or use it to get better. Go get it player.
Whoops I guess TJ shouldn’t have gotten so emotional.
PJ is insurance. But probably won’t get mins in playoffs. TJ brings what they lack most on bench. They will miss him in playoffs.
Good to see Mitch start and bring what he does from the start of the game. I’m guessing he won’t play tomorrow (in a back to back) as KAT returns. I still believe the NYK highest and best possibilities involve Mitch and KAT playing together. Just don’t know if there’s enough time to get it operating at a high level.
Some dead weight in NY
Somebody is bitter.
Alot of teams have it
Kinda vague. Be specific.
He’s the negative option on here. Doesn’t care about balling.
In the playoffs. You have a healthy team. Most teams are only playing 8-10 players. Those mins will be managed. In order to have success. Playoffs are about winning or going home. No team is going to survive 2 or 3 rounds. By playing their starters heavy mins. Especially if you have been doing it all year. Going deep in your bench only means. If Mitch doesn’t have it maybe Precious does. If McBride is not scoring maybe Landry is. If you need a shooter or a stopper or a scorer. The team that can go 8-10 deep. Is the one who has the advantage. TJ Warren is offense with size. We don’t even have on our starters. He is absolutely a plus as 10th man. Better to have him and not need him. Than to not have him and need him. And ALL year. The Knicks have needed bench scoring. All year TJ has been prepping for this. Leading the Westchester Knicks in scoring. Its numbers, analytics you need on your side. Especially when it’s the playoffs. Doesn’t guarantee anything. It does say you are ready with what you got. And have looked at all option. Right now 31 yr okd TJ is AWOL And Knicks answer is 39 yr old PJ.
This dude is freaking out about the ghost of a player who every team in the league has had the opportunity to sign the last 6 months. Get over it.
The Celtics won it all with an 8-man rotation last year, with the starters playing heavy minutes (Tatum 41, Brown 38, Holiday 38, White 36, Horford 30 at Age 37).
The bottom SIX players on their roster didn’t play a SINGLE meaningful playoff minute (for those keeping track: Xavier Tillman, Oshae Brissett, Jaden Springer, Neemias Queta, Svi Mykhailiuk, and Jordan Walsh).
TJ should have signed in China because his offense-focused game is suited over there. Thibs would never have played him in a million years.
Moreover, the Knicks have the #5 Offense in the NBA and this goofy thinks they need a G-League scorer without winning habits. His goldfish brain has already forgotten how useful Evan Fournier was to a playoff team.
