The Suns’ disastrous season didn’t change Devin Booker‘s feelings about the organization. He wants to remain in Phoenix for years to come, he told Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic.
“I’ve spoke on it plenty of times,” Booker said. “I’m sure the people are sick of hearing my Phoenix love story, but I’m deeply rooting into this community. I take a lot of pride in it. We’ve built it from the ground up before. I didn’t think I’d be back in this situation, but it shows you how hard the league is. Once we get back to that championship level, I’ll be able to shed light on people that it can change very quickly.”
It seems unlikely Booker will be playing with both Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal again next season. There’s heavy speculation that Durant will be traded and the front office will try to do something regarding Beal’s onerous contract. Booker has no issues with either player.
“I love playing with both of them,” Booker said. “Even the moments that we played together, they haven’t been to what we expected or wanted out of it, but good things do take some time to build and they take experience. We haven’t had a lot of that, but that’s not a good excuse to fall back on.”
Booker is eligible to sign a two-year, maximum-salary extension this offseason, even though he just completed the first year of his four-year super-max extension. He seems tempted to take it if it’s offered.
“I’ve been in long enough where I’ve watched some of my heroes and idols just slowly get out of the league, and you see how it hurts them,” he said. “I don’t want to think about the day that I have to do that. It’s nice to be up for an extension.”
We have more from the Pacific Division:
- The Lakers‘ best source of information as they prepare for the Timberwolves in the opening round could be their superstar newcomer. Coach JJ Redick will consult with Luka Doncic, who led the Mavericks to a series win over Minnesota in the Western Conference Finals last season. “There are nuances to what teams are trying to do against certain opponents,” Redick said, per Dave McMenamin of ESPN. The third-seeded Lakers will use their time off this week to heal up and gradually work on their game plan for the best-of-seven series. “It’s not necessarily going to be everything at once this week. We’ll have to slow drip, and I think that’s the approach that I think is going to work best for our group,” Redick said. “Tuesday will be more about us. Wednesday, we’ll introduce Minnesota.”
- Speaking of Doncic, he became the first international player to have the best-selling jersey in the league, according to Mike Vornukov of The Athletic. Since the 2013/14 season, either LeBron James or Stephen Curry led the NBA in that category. The Lakers also had the league’s top-selling merchandise.
- Jimmy Butler gave the Warriors fans a glimpse of “Playoff Jimmy” when he played 48 minutes, scored 30 points and matched up with Kawhi Leonard in Sunday’s overtime loss to the Clippers, Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic writes. Golden State was relegated to the play-in tournament but Butler gives the Warriors another player who can take over and assert his will, Thompson notes. “You have a guy who can kind of slow the pace of the game down for us, get us into good things,” forward Draymond Green said. “Just having that extra added weapon. Having another No. 1 next to Steph is different.”
- The Warriors have a clean injury report for their matchup with Memphis on Tuesday night, Anthony Slater of The Athletic tweets. Curry has a sprained right thumb and Butler took a knee to the thigh on Sunday, but both will play.
Booker is not that guy. No team is ever winning a championship with him as the number one option. If it wasn’t for Paul and Durant. He would have spent the last 10 years losing 50 games every year.
At best he’s a third option on a championship team – problem is they brought in the wrong two parts because Durant has never been that guy either
@tuck
Durant was that guy in GSW. He had the best stats. he just wasn’t a vocal leader.
Steph was the guy. That was one of the things that seemed to bug KD. Steph sacrificed so he could get his but still performed almost as well as KD on better efficiency.
The Warriors won before they signed Durant. They gave up a lot to get him.
Did you just say at the best he’s a 3rd option? Do you even watch basketball? Do you even know what his stats are? Better yet, do you even know what the game of basketball is? Do you know what a basketball is? Out of all the absolute braindead takes I’ve seen on this website, you by far have the worst here.
While I agree Booker is more of a second option at this point, I don’t think Durant has done anything at all for his winning record. And Booker was undoubtedly the number one option in the 2021 team that got to the finals.
Booker is not that guy, yet he holds many scoring records and multiple playoff records / accomplishments? If you’d like I’ll gladly name them, but he has done a lot in the playoffs that hasn’t been done since Jordan.
Two year $149 million extension? Almost $75 million per year? For Devon Booker.., maybe a top 20 guy? Wow !!
If you do the extension, how are you supposed to fill out your team? I guess Bol Bol will be a starter next year after all lol
I mean, it’s not going to kick in next year. As always with these things, what looks like stupid money now is normal in a few years.
But the chance of Bol Bol staying increased to 1% with the coach getting fired.
Actually, I wonder if Bol Bol might be deported. He came to the US as a refugee from Southern Sudan. Sec of State Rubio is revoking all Southern Sudanese Visa holders. I haven’t heard what Bol’s current status is.
It could effect the draft. Duke’s Malauch, projected to go in the top 10, could get deported. Duke is working to keep him in the country. It would be pretty sad. The kid has only been playing 5 years and is seen by many to elite defensive upside.
No star no player deserves more than 25% of cap. That should be on your last big contract. Any star can make that money back on endorsements. Makes no sense.
Jimmy kinda owned an previously on-fire Kawhi, problem is, Gary Payton 2 is not a starter, or a finisher in this league. Kerr’s obsession with undersized guards has been a curse to the team from 2023-present. In no way, shape or form is Kuminga a worse player than Payton or Hield are. Kerr is benching his best players to play scrubs – thats his fave move and it stinks the Warriors FO allows him to act like you dont need 7 footers in the NBA. All it means is no chip for GSW, when they easily could have finished top 4 with a title every season since 2021.
I really despise Steve Kerr. If you try to troll me by arguing he knows what he is doing, you will be muted and sent to the shadow realm forever, because you, like Kerr currently does, fundamentally hate basketball and do not want to win titles. Kerr said so himself that he prefers losing to winning, you can’t take that back. He is the worst HC in NBA history for saying that. Just a punk loser who rides greatness like a jockey.
ENOUGH OF THE KERR BASHING.
I’M TIRED OF IT.
HE’S THE COACH OF THE WARRIORS FOR THE TIME BEING.
GIVE IT A REST.
But dont mute me.., we’re pals remember.
…and don’t call people losers because they have been life-long fans of any team. It supposed to be about fun.
Why not bash him? He is literally causing us to lose via using rotations that no other coach would use?
Id never mute Gary!!!
Name a coach that would play a player whose shooting has stunk all season and causes the overall offense to stall?
There are only 33 7 footers in a league with 510 players. The Warriors would have to give up a lot to find one that you would actually want to give minutes to.
I have said it since he got drafted. Kuminga has the potential to be like Jimmy. Warriors need that guy now. He can help slow down Harden and Kawhi. Pick up Harden full court. Even 20 mins. Like to see 30 mins
To be Jimmy like you have to have it upstairs. Jonathan Kuminga does not have the basketball IQ of Jimmy or Kobe or LeBron or Kawhi Leonard.
He can jump through the roof and that’s his skill. It’s a great thing but wow, he’s gotta put it together and next year will be his fifth year.
It’s time for JK to show us who he is. If not he’s adios this summer with Moody.
Thats what developing talent is all about. He’s not on your timeline or Kerr’s. Warriors as a franchise should know this. All rookies especially 19 yr olds. Have to develop a certain part of their game more. The pressure of winning in NBA causes teams to fail them. Like they did Wiseman.
I feel bad for KD in some ways. All he wants to do is hoop. he’s never going to be a vocal leader but he had always been, the best statistical player on all of his teams. In the GSW finals he shot a ridici 55/45/90+. It’s not his fault his teammates underperformed, couldn’t stay healthy or the team, the Suns, she top heavy but poorly constructed 1-8. That’s not all on him. A good coach should be able to get at least 45 wins out of team like that.
He shoulda stayed with the Warriors. He could have had Dray gone if that was the price to keep him, and while it wouldnt be his team entirely he would probably have a couple more rings now.
I’m going to have to troll Davey J.
Steve Kerr has never once said he prefers losing to winning. You can’t find anywhere that Kerr has ever said. Cite your evidence for making that claim. I don’t care if you mute. You have done it a dozen times. Put up or shut up buddy.
There is a very good reason for playing Payton or Heild over Kuminga. The trio of Kuminga/Butler/Green has a plus/minus of -24. There is no way you sit Butler or Green. So, you have to sit Kuminga. Podziemski/Butler/Green, on the other hand, have a plus/minus +58. The negative number is probably because Kuminga’s shooting has stunk all season. They don’t have to defend against Kuminga. He needs to get his outside shot and free throwing going or he not going to get that 30+ million he wants.
Just mute him – it’s been nice not having his garbage pop up on my screen
Same! Got tired of his consistent nagging like comments daily.
Davey has often expressed his disdain for Kerr and his family. Don’t like his coaching? His opinion. But to celebrate the murder of Kerrs father? That’s disgusting. And he’s expressed it more than once. He’s still allowed to post. Pretty sad comment on what’s allowed here. So why be surprised by anything this organism (being generous) can post.
I have two points.
While this may sound like it is about coaching, it is in the same vein as Davey bashing Kerr’s father. People say Kerr is obsessed with ‘small ball’ and refuses to play a 7-footer. They say it costs us games. Remember the coach who died? He was brought in to develop Wiseman. His previous students had been Zubac and Jokic. Hardly sounds like a guy obsessed with ‘small ball’. His death effected the rest of the team. Kerr spoke at his funeral. It seems rather callous to ignore that Deki existed and was a part of the Warriors.
At some point, Klay, Steph, Draymond and Kerr will move on. They had a historic run. These things always end. Celebrate the fun and excitement it brought. Stop bashing because it is ending.
74, I have only one point. It’s not about the game, the assistant that died of natural causes (tho yes very sad), or coaching period. It’s about taking pleasure in a murder…a life lost. It wasn’t hinted at, it was flat out stated. I’m staying away from Trade Rumors. At least Warrior posts. Go Giants, 74.
Kuminga needs to be traded….someone mentioned he doesn’t have the basketball IQ of Jimmy…so true….he constantly makes bad decisions….need him gone…
Is there any way players like Booker can say something interesting rather than the standard “I want to be with the organisation long term” Unless he loves the city, how could that be the case…good weather?
Butler probably made the same bad decisions 10+ years ago.
You should offer your services as a Public Relations professional to Booker if you feel he should have better responses to the media.
Kuminga is 22 and has been poorly developed by the idiot Kerr. He is a good player, like Podz, he needs a clearly defined role.
There are those who consider themselves ball fans.
And respect the ideology of drafting Defense first in NFL. Yet are clueless on what defense means in the NBA …….. i find that amusing lols !!!!!!
“ John Salley on Larry Bird and Luka Doncic: ‘The difference between Larry and Luka, cuz somebody tried to tell me that, is Larry played defense. Larry played defense, and Larry was all was so smart and can just… he never missed, I’ve never seen him miss.’”

You know what made Lakers, Warriors, Clippers. Second half push, run possible. YEEeeessssss
Something Luka hasn’t quite figured out yet ……
