The Kings are in the process of revamping their front office and coaching staff, having already added B.J. Armstrong as an assistant general manager and Mike Woodson as the lead assistant on their coaching staff.
A Wednesday report indicated that Sixers assistant Bobby Jackson will return to Sacramento (where he played and coached for multiple years), but Jason Anderson of The Sacramento Bee hears a deal has yet to be finalized. It is a strong possibility, per Anderson, that it does in fact happen, but the Kings haven’t asked Philadelphia for permission to speak to him and there have been no formal discussions yet.
Additionally, vice president of player personnel Phil Jabour, vice president of player development Paul Johnson and vice president of basketball engagement Alvin Gentry will all remain with Sacramento moving forward, according to Anderson.
We have more from the Pacific Division:
- Buddy Hield maintained his hot shooting streak in Game 1 of the Western Conference semis and the Warriors as a whole kept their three-point shooting intact after Stephen Curry went down to claim a win over the Timberwolves. Kevin Pelton of ESPN says that shouldn’t be the expectation for the series moving forward with Curry out due to injury. Pelton opines that the Warriors can still craft an offensive edge built around Jimmy Butler, but cautions that the team will have to be careful not to run Butler into the ground and adds that other role players will need to step up.
- Without Curry, the Warriors will turn to Draymond Green on and off the court, ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk writes. “He’s our leader,” coach Steve Kerr said. “And when he’s right, like he was [in Game 7 of the first round], he’s an incredible player to watch. The defense, just kind of owning the court on that side of things and then just being patient and not turning it over and being in the right spots offensively. I think the guys understood after Game 6 we were scattered, we were out of sorts.“
- Pat Spencer is one of the Warriors‘ bench pieces who stepped up in Game 1 and will be relied on moving forward, Marcus Thompson II and Shakeia Taylor of The Athletic write. “Pat is a damn good basketball player,” Green said. “And I know he don’t look like it. He don’t just jump off the page at you when you see him in a basketball jersey. I don’t think the No. 61 helps him. But he is one of the toughest guys on this team, and that includes myself.” Spencer is a former lacrosse star who worked his way up through the G League and onto the Warriors’ standard roster. He provided a spark of energy for Golden State in Game 1.
- The Clippers outwardly supported James Harden after he followed an impressive regular season with an inconsistent playoff run, including a seven-point Game 7 performance, Law Murray of The Athletic notes. “We really asked James to do a lot,” president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank said. “And at his age, to deliver what he did … 79 games. And he does that time and time and time again. We have a deep appreciation for that sort of availability and to be able to deliver and do what he did.” The Clippers fell to the Nuggets in a first-round Game 7 in which Harden attempted only eight field goals.
Warriors somehow have to win 1 game at home. And Curry can wait til Game 6.
In Butler we trust !!!!!
Buddy’s defense has not been talked about enough. Huge jump from who he historically has been over the last 6 weeks.
GS is knocked out before a full strength Curry is back.
This only happens if Steph takes more than a week to get back, because if Minnesota wins games 2,3 and 4 (the games Steph is for sure missing) it would still be 3-1
Save us Pat Spencer, your our only hope.
Only if he is out 2 weeks. Warriors will take 1 in SF.
Someone please tell Moses Moody and Jonathan Kuminga not to leave their feet every time they drive to the basket.
If someone comes to block their shot, they don’t have the foresight to have an outlet pass when they’re in trouble like that. Tired of the turnovers because these two players don’t have court vision.
Ready to deal Kuminga yet?
I’ve been ready for 2 years.
But he is giving a little lift here in the third quarter. I want him the first plane out of town, but he’s twice the player. Moses Moody is.
Gary, you like this multi-teamer?
Jimmy to Suns
Kuminga, Moody and Podziemski + picks to the Bucks
Reaves to the Bucks
Draymond to Lakers
Giannis and KD to the Warriors
@ GaryRSW
Kuminga was having a great 3rd Q, between him and Kuminga they Wolves’ lead was cut to 7 pts twice.
Podz too slow to cover DiVincenzo who hits an open three makes it still only 10 pts.
Then Draymond misses a layup and (tired) Podz makes a bad turnover and the Wolves are back up by 12.
Kerr calls a timeout, and instead of continuing with the players that made the run and giving Podz a blow, he takes out all of them except Butler, and within 2 minutes it’s an pt game again as they can’t run an offense and Moody airballs 2 straight threes.
One of the worst momentum-killing substitutions I’ve ever seen.
Yeah, pretty tough to watch but the hope is they can win one at home.
The Timberwolves do look beatable when you watch them. They are sort of like the rockets in a way where they don’t have real pure shooters.
They’re more athletic than skilled if you know what I mean. Not meant to be a dig. The wolves inconsistently shoot it, yet I think Dante is a good shooter, but they’ll miss three trips in a row down the court.
I’m really not sure why Anthony Edwards just doesn’t go to the hole every time. He is so strong and quick and gifted as a scorer.
You really think a team will want him?
He’s a superior athlete and he looked good in the third quarter at times. That was an NBA move, the dribble drive on the wing and then pull up jumper. Yes I think someone will bite.
I was thinking more about the logistics of someone acquiring him. I believe only the Nets can sign him out right. They are only looking at polished players. For all other teams, it would have to be a sign-and-trade. He wanted $30+ million before the beginning of the season. Who can meet his demands?
Oh yes, true on the logistics front. Cap space is few and far between. And then going into his fifth year he wants big star money, but his game is lacking in many areas.
Jonathan Kuminga is Antonio McDyss but instead of being 6-9 he’s 6-6. Instead of having developed a nice jump shot after four years he has a nice…, well, I’m not sure?
JK — 18 mins, leading scorer with 18 pts.
We all know he’s young. And maybe not ready. So if you really believe that. Had all year to so something about it. Find a place for him or move him.
We choose “move him.”
Its a failed draft for Warrior fans. No development of players. And nothing to show for three top picks. Would have been better off just trading them on draft night. That’s an organization failure.
It’s about time you came around Al. Some of us have been saying that for three years. Jonathan Kuminga has great leaping ability but no game. Moses Moody really sucks.
Hopefully the next few drafts help the Warriors acquire assets, not liabilities. Warriors not wannabes. So far so good with Quentin Post and Trayce had some good moments last night so there’s still hope for him.
Sure, he had 18 points tonight. But, the next night he’ll put up goose eggs. Why do you think got benched in the 1st place. He is trying to hard to get that $35/year contract. He needs to be consistent. He showed he could do it last year. But, this season has been a struggle.
While I wasn’t expecting a W tonight. Moody is hurting this team and has apparently mailed it in. Absolute disgrace when he missed that 3 pointer early on and jogged after his defender McDaniels ran the floor for a layup. I guess that’s Kerr’s fault? lol smh
That’s a perfect example of why he’s a spectator and should be. What a waste of ability!
I knew I wasn’t the only one to see that.
How many air balls did Moody have tonight? I counted three at least, including the 15 foot shot from the right side.
@SharksFan91
Kerr is the coach that put him in the game after he’d shot 0-9 in the last 2 games – and then repeated the mistake in the 3rd Q. He’s now at 0-14 in the last3 games.
SMH!
Yes, Kerr put him in the game, but then I laughed when he took him right back out after two turnovers and an air ball lol.
Moses Moody really sucks.
Randle flew past Moody on consecutive plays. There was no defense in those 2 plays.
arc, he was out-quicked by a power forward lol
So Moody can’t defend guards, he can’t defend wings, and last night we see he can’t defend power forwards.
What do we do now, start moody at center?
I guess we rely on his offense !!
Warriors need to bench him at this point. His only good game so far was playing against Rocket’s back ups. Spencer’s defense is just as bad buthe can bring the offense. I would play knox or Santos at this point they play with energy.
I love Santos. I think he has a lot of potential.
Add Spencer to the wtf was that in Game 2? With Steph out, defense needs to be a priority and the rest will take care of itself.
I’d keep JK before Moody. A shame the wrong one has a longer term contract. Of course, that won’t stop someone from throwing out ridiculous NBA 2K trades and confusing it with reality AKA real LIFE!
Gary,
I figured out who the comp for Kuminga is, and it’s TJ Warren. He has no outside shot, no rebounding or defense. Barely has handles to keep the defenders honest. He is TJ Warren reincarnated in this generation. I hate to burst your bubble but yeah, and also Moses Moody belongs in the GLeague lmao
No bubble burst here. I think if you look back and you should remember this raz, I’ve been on these two guys to be shipped out of town for three years.
But the naysayers wanted to give them more time to develop.
Everyone thinks it’s the Portland Trailblazers and Jermaine O’Neil all over again. He gets traded to Indiana and suddenly he’s an all-star.
There’s not too many of those stories in the NBA. One is I applaud the efforts of Kwame Brown, who came in with huge expectations, fell on his face, yet carved out a wonderful 12 or 13 year career as a very good backup big man.
But the list is several hundred guys long of failed draft picks in the top 15. Charlotte Sacramento and the Warriors have most of them lol. Horrible.
Silk purse, sow’s ear.., you know the story.
I think Kuminga would be best on a team like New Orleans. They have Zion and that’s all they have in terms of front court athleticism and shot making ability. Correct me if I’m wrong but the other guys on the front line really don’t have any athleticism or type of paint game excluding Zion. Maybe GSW sends Kuminga out for Kelly Olynyk? CJ would the ideal guy next to Curry who can create his own shot and playmaking for others. He would be a 1 year rental next year, but you probably need to include Moses Moody or Buddy Hield in that deal. Joe Dumars is the man in charge now so anything is possible over there.
Warriors should easily get more than old Olnyk for Kuminga. Better get a 1st round pick with that type of trade. Kelly is a bench player.
As opposed to Kuminga who does what exactly? He’s strictly a paint guy and has zero desire to play defense or rebound. This is one of those moments role players are given the label as franchise or all star caliber potential stars.
Kelly brings nothing for the warriors but more payroll. Rather them just let Kuminga go than bring in another player to rot on the bench. You are think of his play from 3 years ago.
He has an expiring $13M next year. Still can hit the 3 point shot and has size at 6’11. He averaged 10.7/5.9 and shot 38% from 3PT land with New Orleans in 25.4 MPG this season. Also not to mention, he’s one of the best screeners in the NBA. I’ve yet to hear any team complain on how well he screens and how he is a professional in the locker room. I honestly think he would work exceptionally well with Steph/Hield/Butler/Draymond. Then you can bring back Looney as a reduced rate since he’s a FA and have a nice 3 man big rotation of Post/Olynyk/Looney.
