Shortly after the 76ers reached an agreement to sign Nick Young, Lou Williams announced via Twitter that he would not be returning to Philadelphia: "Philly, I appreciate you all. Unfortunately I will not be coming back, as an organization they decided to move in a different direction." John Finger of CSNPhilly.com confirmed (via Twitter) that the Sixers will not attempt to re-sign Williams.
Williams decided to opt out of the final year of his contract with the Sixers and explore the market as an unrestricted free agent this summer. We heard earlier this week that there were "five or six teams" prepared to make a contract offer to the 25-year-old. The market for the combo guard may have diminished slightly since then, given all the contract agreements we've seen this week, but I imagine he'll still draw plenty of interest with Philadelphia out of the hunt.
In 64 games off the bench for the Sixers in 2011/12, Williams led the team in scoring, averaging 14.9 points .407/.362/.812 shooting in 26.3 minutes per contest.

i would love lou williams to sign with the rockets ..
This is a definite upgrade for the Sixers. Nick Young can put up more points than Little Lou Williams, the Sixers avoid another multi year deal giving themselves more flexibility for trades down the road and while Young doesn’t play a lot of defense he’s got great length and more height than a traffic cone, er, I mean, than Little Lou.
Eh, no he can’t. Williams is a better scorer and ballhandler than Young.
Yea I agree makes no sense from the Sixers part to switch Williams for Young as Williams was the better player and there seems to be no market so far for him.
Maybe Dallas can sign him since they lost Terry
I want the Celtics to pick Lou up. He’s ideal for them. Why the hell aren’t they after this guy for the same money they are waiving in Ray Allen’s ungrateful, selfish minded face?
