The Knicks are on the verge of landing Andrea Bargnani in a trade with the Raptors, a source tells Howard Beck of the New York Times. The Knicks are offering Marcus Camby, Steve Novak, a first-round pick, and a second-round pick for the Italian big man.
Several teams have pursued Bargnani, but the Knicks have emerged as the “strong favorites” to land him, and an agreement could come soon, the source said. The former No. 1 overall pick has career averages of 15.2 PPG and 4.8 RPG in seven NBA seasons. He’s owed $22.25MM over the next two seasons.
Moving Barngani would be the first major move by new Raptors decision-maker Masai Ujiri. Outgoing GM Bryan Colangelo was open about his desire in past years to move Bargnani, but no deal ever materialized for him.
The first rounder is making this trade too heavily in the Raptors’ favor. Grunwald should know better than this.
The Knicks are one of the top teams in the NBA, so the pick would be a late pick anyway, so to the Knicks, the picks probably aren’t a big deal.
For a guy who was a week away from being amnestied, a first rounder is too much. Novak and Camby are salary dumps, as is Bargnani. A second rounder sweetens it but a first is too much to give up for a guy like Bargs.
If he can stay healthy, this is a win-win, but I get what you’re saying. Maybe they plan to amnesty him once they get him, if they can do that, I’m not sure.
So the guy goes from amnesty candidate, to worth a first rounder? What did I miss?
First off, the Knicks don’t have a first rounder next year, therefore they have to keep the 2014-15 one, making this draft pick at the earliest a 15-16 1st rounder, which I still highly doubt the Knicks gave up for Bargnani. I’m just gonna stay tuned on this one…
I don’t know what the Knicks are thinking. Do they like having a reason to feel sorry for themselves? Horrible trade, horrible player.
For the Knicks, Camby & Novak each had 3 years remaining on their contracts.
Bargs only has 2yrs. The Knicks free up some financial space a year earlier.
And if Im not mistaken, AFTER the 2014-2015 season, Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler, Andrea Bargnani and Amar’e Stoudemire will all have their contracts expire.
