The 2016 NBA Draft Lottery is now complete, and this year’s winner is the Sixers. Philadelphia will have its choice of the consensus top-two of former LSU combo forward Ben Simmons and former Duke small forward Brandon Ingram. While snagging the top pick in June is certainly a boon, the excitement of the night should be tempered by the fact that no team with the No. 1 overall pick has won the NBA title within two years of making that pick since the Spurs took home the championship in 1999 after drafting Tim Duncan in 1997. This trend will likely continue during the 2016/17 campaign, but if the right call is made on draft night the Sixers could begin laying the foundation for future success.
The Sixers finally landed the elusive top overall pick, having had a 25% chance of the ping-pong balls dropping in their favor. Also notable from tonight’s lottery results is that the Lakers will retain their 2016 first-rounder, with Philadelphia being set to take it if the pick fell out of the top three. Former NBA player Dikembe Mutombo caused a bit of a stir earlier this evening when he tweeted a congratulatory message to Philly for winning the draft lottery (h/t Kieran Darcy of ESPN.com). The tweet has since been deleted, but it should be noted for conspiracy theorists that the lottery had not occurred when Mutombo relayed his message.

I love the NBA draft lottery conspiracies!
The 76ers shouldn’t be allowed to draft! They are an embarrassment to the league and will probably take a forward/center again instead of trading for a young veteran who can lead.
They probably will take a young foward considering Ingram and Simmons are generally the consensus top picks. And not many, if any teams, are trading their “young veteran” that I would assume be a star player.
What young veteran?
You’re a dope
Hey jackass, how about Butler from Chicago. Or are you happy with your kiddie cores record?
B/c you can force trades in the NBA like you can in 2k? Lol
Jimmy Butler has had multiple injuries and is going to be 27. Not worth trading for for the Sixers. Wouldn’t trade for Paul George either. Only would trade for a player 25 or younger.
Stop commenting here, go to the Hockey board. You clearly have no clue ab the NBA.
The amount of draft picks the Celtics have would be impressive for an NFL draft… 8 picks??
They probably have to trade a few of those for future picks. Can’t possibly draft 8 players.
Boston don’t have many holes so yes they will do some trading without a doubt. They be crazy to draft 8 players
They’ll probably end up selling those second rounders. I know the Knicks and Nets are looking to buy some second rounders so that would be a logical trade partner, not sure if the whole division rival thing will prevent that from happening though.
Definately could see the Knicks end up buying a 1st or a 2nd from the Celtics or Suns.
Lakers can’t go wrong with either Simmons or Ingram but I believe Ingram a better fit for the lakers.
With the lakers luck in free agency lakers might be smart and stay put with their picks and just fill needs at SF and center.
his draft selections were dubious at best but i actually feel bad for Hinkie
The Sixers are on their way to The top real soon. Draft Simmons And do away with Okafor And Noel. If Embiid Is coming back Néxt season just start him at center And put Saric at The 3. Okafor can be traded for another top 10 pick And they could draft Denzel to play The 2. He’s such a good playmaking shooting guard that who ever Is at point guard wont have to facilitate too much. Ish Smith Is solid, this lineup would be legit Smith, Valentine,Saric,Simmons, Embiiid
Embiid staying healthy will be a big IF and Saric playing the 3 he will get destroyed by faster small forwards, he could play Nikola Mirotic role though.
Okafor is a big IF to get another top 10 pick. His stats are inflated because of how bad the 76ers were, he’s not a rim-protecting big, and all the off-the-court issues last year (as minor and as long ago as they happened) does hurt his value a bit. A top 15-20 first round pick probably isn’t out of the equation depending on who is trading for him.
Lol he’d be the #1 overall pick if he were in the draft this year. Troll.
First round maybe, but none of the teams with a top ten pick are going to trade it for him straight up. You package up a couple draft picks with him like one of those late 1st round picks plus another 2 down the road then maybe you get someone to bite.
sixers should take ingram if they want to maximize their talents. ingram is slim enough to play the 2 giving them a starting 4 of ingram 2 saric 3 okafor/noel/embiid at 5. simmons is a better version of saric which would not maximize sarics game. ingrams 3 point shooting would be great complement. if they could get ulis or/and baldwin at 24 or 26 they would have a perfetc lineup.
