The odds of the Knicks completing a trade this week involving Carmelo Anthony are very slim, a source tells Marc Berman of The New York Post. Anthony has said he prefers to remain with the Knicks through Thursday’s trade deadline, and that remains the most likely outcome.
Anthony, one of three players in the NBA with a formal no-trade clause in his contract, has been vocal about his preference to stick with New York. There are believed to be a small handful of teams, including the Cavaliers and Clippers, that Anthony might approve — Berman notes that Los Angeles is Carmelo’s preferred destination in a trade, and a weekend report indicated that the Cavs haven’t entirely closed the door on a possible deal. However, according to Berman, the Knicks haven’t discussed any trade scenarios with those teams that are attractive enough to make them ask their star forward to waive his no-trade clause.

Anthony, who participated in All-Star weekend after being named to the Eastern Conference team as a replacement for Kevin Love, was happy that trade rumors involving him appeared to be dying down and weren’t a constant topic of conversation in New Orleans.
“Leave it like that,” Anthony said, according to Berman. “Things I’m dealing with, it’s good not to hear me in the media like that. This weekend was more about focusing on this weekend, having fun and getting away from that for a couple of days. I was in the moment just focusing on being here.”
Assuming Anthony finishes the season with the Knicks, he’ll head into the summer with two years remaining on his contract with the club. The final year is an early termination option, so he’ll have the chance to opt out and become a free agent in 2018.
How disappointing!!!!
They should just cut their losses. Better off using his roster spot for a “team guy”, not a “me guy”. The Knicks should have never traded for that train wreck of a player
From a basketball standpoint the Knicks should trade Melo to position themselves in the coming draft. Melo is not bringing a championship anytime in NYC . Build naturally and organically and let them develop. Stop retooling and commit to a full rebuilding mode.
Given Melo’s NTC, the Knicks’ potential trade partners are extremely limited. That’s even before you consider the likely high price to trade for him and the fact that teams might not want to deal with him.
The Knicks don’t really have any direction at all. This roster was doomed to fail from the start not because of it being poorly built but because of the high expectations and drama surrounding it. It’s sad that Porzingis will end up not making the playoffs for a couple years because the front office is inept. Either move on from Melo or get better pieces around him through the draft. The best way to build a team is through the draft.
Damn….nobody wants his contract!!!!!! Even if he waives it, he’s not going anywhere during the NBA season. He’s old, overpaid and skills going down the toilet.
Even if he waives it, there’s nobody taking on an almost mid thirties, overpaid, diminished skills drama queen in a trade. Besides Cleveland and due to injuries, what other team would he actually make better at a salary of a whole platoon of bench players.
He was born here (then soon moved to Baltimore. How is that being from here?)
All this talk about his ‘brand’. His wife’s career. Teammates, standing on the arc with hands up calling for the ball–closest defender the only other person on that half of the court on the low block, as he penetrates into a triple-team.
Pulling the plug on Linsanity (of course didn’t endure, but ended it prematurely).
Look at D’antoni and Harden this year.
I HATED the trade that brought him here. The Knicks are the only pro team in any sport I follow, and really can’t stand this guy.
I’d rather have a team of overachieving underdogs, than a deluded underachiever.
I hoped for the best. I criticized his decision making and leadership (mentoring), but never rooted against the guy because I’m for the team.
Look, simply put–if that Denver Nugget team that made it to the Western Conference Finals couldn’t get it done, as stacked as they were, HE would need to change and evolve.
Man, we nearly cloned that team, and it isn’t fair to say we got the other pieces when they were older.
This is usually said as a compliment, but not from my mouth: “Melo being Melo”.
Please get him the hell out of here.
Should have shut it down and had surgery, rather than hold on and compete in the all star game in the garden. Said he did it for the fans.
Do me a favor, Melo. Waive your no trade clause. I’ll take anything in return, and circle the dates we play your new team on the calendar.
We need a new rivalry. That can be your parting gift to YOUR city.
He was in new york for 8 years of his life then moce because red hook was bad
melo is such a loser
He knows there’s no market for him period.
who are the other two with no trade clause? LeBron and
Dirk.
carmelo will not waive his no trade clause, he came to ny for the opportunities for he and his wife the bb was the vehicle to accomplish that.
Odds are of trade happening are bleak because value of an overpaid aging veteran past his prime is TOXIC ! Salary alone will break a teams back
This is a major “we told the talking heads so”.
