Projected high lottery pick De’Aaron Fox worked out for the Kings on Monday and will visit three other teams with a Top 5 pick over the next week, Scott Howard-Cooper of NBA.com tweets. The University of Kentucky point guard will work out for the Suns, who hold the No. 4 pick, later this week, Howard-Cooper continues. Fox will work out next week for the Sixers, who have the No. 3 pick, and the Lakers, slotted at No. 2, Howard-Cooper adds.
Fox, who averaged 16.7 PPG and 4.6 APG in his lone season with the Wildcats, is ranked No. 5 by DraftExpress and ESPN’s Chad Ford. That’s where the Kings sit on the draft board, and they certainly have a need at the position. The same could be said about the Lakers and Sixers, though most mock drafts predict Los Angeles will go with UCLA point man Lonzo Ball and Philadelphia will target Kansas small forward Josh Jackson.
Fox could improve his stock during his tour and perhaps even get picked at the No. 2 spot. It’s not a lock that the Lakers will draft Ball, according to another tweet from Howard-Cooper. Fox’s maturity and intelligence will blow the Lakers away, Howard-Cooper predicts.
If Fox makes a big impression on the Lakers or Sixers, there may be more mystery and intrigue to the top of the draft than currently projected.
I don’t follow college basketball or any college sports for that matter. I just don’t have the time between work, family, the NBA, NFL and MLB. So I gotta ask, is Ball better than Fox. I keep hearing the Lakers night take Fox. I look at Balls numbers and I don’t really understand the hype, he doesn’t score a lot and seems like he isn’t a pure shooter from what I read about him. I see he averages a good amount assist and I read he gets the team involved which is great but sometimes these kids don’t adjust to the NBA. Then I look at Foxs numbers and his scoring is hiring, his assists aren’t high, they are lower than Ball but he seems like a freak athlete which a lot of explosion to the rim and is a natural scorer. These are the things I read and watch on YouTube. So I’m wondering what people think. Who would y’all take with the number 2 pick? If the Lakers keep Russell and stick him SG then Ball would make sense but if they trade Russell to get a star like George it might make more sense to get a Fox. That’s just my thoughts but I don’t really know since I’ve never watched either of them. Would love some feedback and opinions from y’all.
As it pertains to Lonzo, I dont know for sure about how he’s going to end up. He can’t play defense, isn’t a lengthy dude for his size, and I question if he’ll be a willing and able scorer in the NBA, as well as if his jumpshot will stay consistent b/c of the release point and likey susceptibility to getting the shot blocked. That being said, he is really fun to watch, seems like a good kid that legit likes to see his teammates success and make them better, despite his father, seems like a really good playmaker, a pretty good rebounder at his size, and is pretty athletic. I can’t say Jason Kidd right now, just b/c of his size, though I see some of young Kidd in there. To me, he reminds me more of Goran Dragic, but not as good a finisher at the rim, and less of his scoring mentality.
Based on the things his dad has said and will continue to say, especially when the 2 projected to be better younger brothers come out, he better be lebron lol. I do think he should at least have a pretty nice career, but I can’t say for sure he is a star. If his jumpshot does fall consistently, he will be a star offensively though
Also, that lakers team is really bad defensively. Adding him won’t help. They also have an issue with too many 4s on the roster, and essentially zero of anyone that can/shpuld play the 3. It’s a weird situation. Both Fox and Jackson do make sense for them b/c of other moves they could theoretically make. The Lakers don’t really have any paint attacking players and both Fox and Jackson can get to the rim with ease, and set up teammates, as well as play defense. You mentioned Fox’s assist totals, but he played on a team with multuple other guards, so that isn’t an issue. They both need to work on the jumpshot, obviously, but both showed improvement later in the year. I also personally think they both have a shot to be top guys in this draft.
Ball is definitely a high pick, but I’m just not sure I’d take him over Josh Jackson, De’aaron fox, Jonathan Isaac, and Markelle Fultz. I’d probably take him over Tatum, unless I need an iso scorer at the 4/3 spots, which would make it a consideration. I would take him for sure over Monk, NtilikIna (I haven’t had a chance to check out much of any online games of him, so I only know what I’ve read/heard and how he’s looked in certain workouts), Dennis Smith, and Lauri Markkanenm so he’s definitely at least a mid-top 10 pick, if not a top 3 guy…Ultimately, it could actually end up coming down to fit, or how teams feel like he can improve, b/c there is so much talent in the top 9 of this draft
no he’s not better… the media keeps tryna blow him up to me… but in reality… fox averages more points and is more explosive with the ball in his hands… he’s the same height as ball… just ah better player… and Fox’s quickness is unreal… John wall speed with the ball… ball definitely is not better… just have ah lot of hipe…. and ah big mouth dad
Yes sir!
and if I had to pick…I would pick Justin Jackson from North Carolina… sum how he’s gotten lost in this draft but he’s to five on the board this year… averages 23pts ah game and is the best 2 way player in the draft…. he’s NBA ready… and he stayed in college 4 years until his game got up to par… media just hiping the wrong players
What does hiping mean?
Mrs Jackson… is that you?
Teens. Not lottery.
He hasn’t gotten lost in this draft, he’s just not an expected impact player. Maybe you mean Josh Jackson from Kansas, who will be a terrific pro. Justin Jackson will find it hard to become a rotation player, especially early on.
What has Josh Jackson being a markedly better pro? Both have almost identical measurable in length and weight. Neither has questionable athleticism while both are huge question marks on adding size.
Both aren’t great shooters though Justin Jackson has refined his mechanics. Josh Jackson still needs work on that. Justin is a better offensive player while Josh is better defensively. I just don’t see how you look at either and say one is good and one is bad. Both have pretty decent upside considering their length.
@showty, Justin Jackson is a not a top 10 player in this draft. He is A decent prospect but that it’s it. He doesn’t have a ton of upside. He will be one of those decent role players in the NBA.
Jimmer fredette was top 10 while Isiah Thomas was 60. Never know.
Lakers should take Fox. He would be great with team.
