Yesterday we at Hoops Rumors passed along word of serious talks between the Celtics and 76ers concerning an exchange of picks No. 1 and No. 3 in next week’s draft. Here are some updates on the potential trade:
- Philadelphia’s 2018 unprotected first-round pick that was acquired from the Lakers has been part of the discussion, per Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical. The Sixers’ 2021 first-round pick is also possibly in play, tweets Wojnarowski.
- Markelle Fultz was scheduled to have a second meeting with the Celtics on Saturday, but that get-together was canceled, according to Keith Pompey and Bob Cooney of Philly.com.
- Talks are so far along that Fultz will work out for the Sixers later today, tweets Cooney. Fultz will work out for the Sixers at 6:00 P.M. EST and plans to speak to the media afterward, tweets Marc J. Spears of ESPN.com.
- While Boston and Philly may come to an agreement, the trade likely will not be done until draft night, according to Pompey (link via Twitter). In a subsequent tweet, Pompey explains why (Twitter link). If the Lakers draft Josh Jackson second overall, the trade will likely be of no use to the Celtics, who covet the small forward from Kansas.
- Despite Pompey’s timetable, Wojnarowski tweets that the Sixers and Celtics could finalize their trade after Fultz’s workout with Philadelphia on Saturday.
This NEEDS to be a draft night deal. If the Lakers take Jackson at 2 and the Celts are left with Ball, I’m out. I’m just out.
Lakers could still screw it up if they wanted. If they aren’t sold on Lonzo, they could just take Jackson themselves. Even if the Celtics hang on to 1 and draft Fultz in hopes of a trade later on with the Sixers, the Lakers could ruin it if they take Jackson. Lakers all of a sudden hold a ton of power now.
Who us? Laker Nation we Love the celtics!
If Jackson was gone then the Celts would probably be fine with either fox or Tatum or even Smith and the Sixer picks. Ball is not a Celtic kind of player. I wouldn’t worry about him. Doesn’t play the kind of defense that Celtics expect. Same goes with Fultz. Not really a team guy. I know he played with stiffs but he couldn’t even lead his team to an NIT bid.
I could see them moving back for Isaac or Lauri if Jackson winds up not coming to Boston. Both seem like decent fits too.
Reports that Lakers (Magic Johnson) was extremely impressed with Fultz workout. What would it take for C’s to trade No. 1 to Lakers? Obviously the no. 2 pick plus…Ingram? C’s would have to include Jae Crowder and Abdel Nader to Lakers; Ainge really liked Ingram last year. C’s then trade the No. 2 and a second rd pick to the Kings for picks no. 5 and 10 that are flipped to New Orleans along with Olynk for Cousins.
Way too complicated, and too many assets going back to LA. Crowder’s contract is gold right now. Lakers also shouldn’t move Ingram to move up 1 spot.
Lol so many things wrong there I’m not sure where to begin
Magic already said! Ingram is untouchable! Being a lakers fan we know the celtics wouldn’t trade the#1 pick to the lakers!
I’m still skeptical anything like this gets done until it gets done. But if Boston gets multiple assets out of a trade, while retaining the 3rd pick, they can either use that themselves, trade down to 5 for Isaac, or package assets for someone like Butler and still have left over assets/cap space.
Personally seems complicated, so I don’t give it too much stock, but we are also not on those phone calls, and don’t know the exact things in play. Personally, I’d either keep the pick or try to trade down for the multiple assets if I’m the celtics, but if I’m a team like Philly or Sacramento is trying to trade up, I think that’s a poor decision on their part and unnecessary.
For Ainge to deal the #1 pick it better be a Godfather deal. It’s no secret that DA greatly admires the Magic’s Webber/Penny trade, as well as, the C’s Carrol/Parrish/McHale deal so he’ll probably shoot for the moon and hope to hit some stars but most likely he’ll get too greedy and it will blow up in his face.
Celtics should draft Fultz and then if the lakers don’t take Jackson trade him to the sixers for the third and first rounder sometime in the next few years
Trade with The Suns take Bledsoe and Chandler and 2018 pick for the No1 # pick
Lmao
Corleone suggest stuff like this all the time. No one wants Bledsoe and Chandler
Anybody but Ball to the Lakers is my first wish – getting Johnson is merely icing on the cake. Would love to see that happen and then maybe package their 2nd number 1 and Clarkson to someone with a midterm 1 and go after a point guard or a bi
How does waiting til draft night protect the Celtics? Either way they won’t know what the lakers are gonna pick until after the Celtics made their pick so it would be too late.
Unless the actual agreement they have is for Boston to pick Fultz and Philly to pick Jackson and then they trade the actual players?
It protects the Cs because at worst, they get Fultz. That’s OK. If they trade the pick, they’re at the mercy of the Lakers. NO C’s fan wants to be in that position.
#TrustTheProcess
Havent you guys been listening to the insiders? The C’s are shooting for a STAR now not a rookie, the Bulls wanted to trade up with Philly at #3, they love Jacskon…so if the Celtics get the swap done with Philly then they swing that 3rd pick to CHI for Jimmy Butler (probably gotta give up a player to for contracts to match of course)
Now I’m a die hard member of LakersNation so I for sure dont want that to happen. But Zach Lowe, Stephen A Smith are reporting this is what they would prefer to do. Boston doesnt wanna wait on the development of another rookie, they just started getting a good return on Smart this year and Jaylen is still developing.
Not really though. Celtics have built an amazing team, as they are in a spot to build both now and like five years from now. If they get a star, cool. If not, that’s fine too. Danny has a win-win situation and no answer is going to be a wrong one.
#1 to the Lakers for their #2, Russell, and a future #1
Not happening. Celtics have zero interest in Russell and it is several years until the lakers even have a future first round pick they could trade and by then Lebron will have them out of the lottery.
If the Celtics do this trade it better be for the #3 pick, multiple more future 1st round picks and Dario Sarich. If it isn’t this package I will be very upset as a Celtics fan
Your name suites you “Crazy”sull.
I see you edited your comment after the trade. Sad.
If celtics covet Jackson, Fultz will be there at 2. Worst case they take Jackson or Fox or trade for #5
I’m curious to see what Boston gets out of this. As I said earlier in this thread, I don’t see where it makes sense for Philly to give up assets to move up. And this could then enable Boston to take some of their assets and trade for someone
