Newly acquired Clippers forward Danilo Gallinari has broken his hand punching an opponent in an exhibition match with the Italian national team, a EuroHoops.net report (via NBA.com) reveals.
The 28-year-old recently picked up by the Clippers in a three-way sign-and-trade deal lashed out at Jito Kok of the Dutch national team and promptly left the game to visit the hospital, the report says.
Per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, it was his thumb that Gallinari injured but the setback isn’t expected to keep him out of Clippers training camp. Surgery is not expected.
There’s more from the Pacific Division:
- While Alan Williams‘ $5.5MM contract with the Suns isn’t guaranteed for the 2018/19 season, $1MM will become guaranteed if he meets certain minimum weight/body fat requirements, Eric Pincus of Basketball Insiders tweets.
- Contrary to what was previously reported, the second year of Tyler Ennis‘ two-year deal with the Lakers will not feature a team option for 2018/19. Instead, Eric Pincus of Basketball Insiders tweets, it will come with a non-guaranteed second season.
- The Clippers interviewed Knicks‘ player of personnel Mark Hughes for a position as assistant general manager, Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times tweets.
Looks like Danilo and Blake will have something to bond over, if they somehow end up with Enis kanter they will be able to start their own anger management course
Obviously hasn’t learned to punch with a closed fist. Breaking your thumb with a punch you’re not holding it right LOL typical basketball player fight AKA Alonzo Mourning Larry Johnson Etc.
Is there much difference in a non-guaranteed second year of a contract and a team option? Other than date or does it vary in the way it applies to the salary cap?
I’m not sure. I think I asked the same in a different article not too long ago but I forgot to go back and look to see if it was answered lol
There are a few differences that make non-guaranteed seasons more valuable to teams than team options. For instance, if a team is trying to make a trade in June, it can move a player who has one non-guaranteed season left, but a player with a team option can’t be traded (until after the option is exercised).
Also, team options aren’t counted for stretching purposes, so a player waived using the stretch provision can have his cap hit stretched out for a couple extra years if he has a non-guaranteed season instead of a team option season.
Guarantee deadlines can also be modified if the player and team both agree, whereas a team option deadline can’t be (it’s always the end of June).
In general, non-guaranteed seasons give teams slightly more flexibility than a straight option.
God Danilo already learning from Blake
It’s just sad because two of the three best players on the team are soft and guys know they can get to them. Blake before breaking his hand would get into it with players because they would jostle him. Now teams know that Gallo is just as easy to do it to. They could be a 5/6 seed in the West, but they could also be out of the playoffs if the talent can’t keep it on the court.
As a Clippers fan this disappoints me. We need to tank and prepare for the Warriors to fall off, not pile on decent talent now, unless we can move Galo to a Future pick or young talent. Also, we don’t need any more injuries on the team
