Recently appointed head coach David Fizdale plans to make the most of what could otherwise be considered a logjam of guards on the Knicks’ roster, Stefan Bondy of The New York Daily News writes.
“Roll them out there. Put them out there together,” Fizdale said. “It’s about speed, skill, aggressiveness, attack, playmaking. All of these guards have that ability. So I see a lot of versatility in there. I see a lot of combinations with them on the floor [for the Knicks] together.”
Given that there’s no shortage of ball carriers on the roster, Knicks president Steve Mills says that the club will ideally target a wing player in the upcoming June draft.
There’s more out of New York this evening:
- The Knicks reached out to Heat president Pat Riley prior to hiring David Fizdale, Marc Berman of The New York Post. Riley, a former Knicks coach himself, has a polarizing history with the franchise, but was a strong reference for Fizdale, a former Heat assistant.
- Prior to hiring Fizdale, the Knicks also reached out to Villanova head coach Jay Wright regarding the vacancy. Zach Braziller of The New York Post has the details on why the reigning national champion had no desire to leave his current situation.
- Analyst Walt Frazier doesn’t foresee Kristaps Porzingis returning to the lineup for the Knicks this year, Zach Braziller of The New York Post writes. The former franchise great, who currently works for MSG Network, explains that Porzingis’ recovery time has him set to return in January or February, at which point the team will likely be out of the playoff picture.
Ntilikina Noah and their 1st for Schroder and a throw in.
Are you high? Frank and a first for a guy who he’s probably already better than?
How are you getting rid of Noah’s contract? And Schroder is an upgrade, signed at 15.5M for his age 25, 26, and 27 seasons. He’s improved year over year. Frank is still a project. Instant upgrade to the position alongside Special K.
That is such a Knicks trade. Lol. No wonder this franchise is a joke.
Do you honestly see Ntilikina becoming anything more than an Elfrid Payton?
Let me guess, you were a big Isiah Thomas fan?
Noah’s contract isn’t a big deal at this point. You’re trade wouldn’t even open up cap space – so it’s two top 10 picks for Schroder, who isn’t much of an upgrade now (let alone after next year). Teams in a rebuild don’t trade young players or draft picks (let alone two top 10 picks) to shed a bad contract that will off their books in any event before they’ll be competitive for something meaningful.
Which Isaiah? The HoF player with terrible GM choices or the 5’3 former MVP candidate with hip issues?
Frank may have been drafted in the Top-10, doesn’t make his value better. Okafor was Top-3 what was his value? So that argument is moot stop living in 2017. You’re basically shedding the mid-level exemption each year. Frees up at least 7M in both 18 and 19. I would wait to see where their pic actually lands but if its #9 it’s probably Mikal or Miles Bridges. Still would rather get rid of Noah and get back a player that I know is better than Frank. Elfrid Payton is his upside, which is not enticing in the least bit. Compare Schroders value to other PGs making 18-30M.
I’m so curious how you think this helps the team.
There’s this guy Joakim Noah on the roster making 18.5 in 2018 and 19.2 in 2019.
Cmon Clyde, Zinger is young, he’s going to want to get out there at some point in ’18/’19. Keep his reflexes trained.
I was referring to Isiah the GM who made short sighted deals like the one you propose, only his were not quite as bad as yours – at least his deals arguably made the team better initially. The Knicks’ focus needs to be closing the talent gap with Philly and Boston over the next couple of years so they can compete in the next 5-7 year cycle. Not selling out in hopes of maybe competing for the 8th playoff spot. A big maybe.
The Hawks didn’t think DS and THJ were a starting back court that could win much with, even with Horford and Milsap up front (which is why they went to rebuild), but somehow you think we’re going to.
Frank’s value hasn’t changed much since the last draft, except maybe in your mind, and Noah’s contract will expire, and DS will begin to descend from is average level, before the Knicks are ready to win again.
