Within his latest piece for The Ringer, Kevin O’Connor focuses primarily on DeMarcus Cousins‘ free agency and his possible fit with the Lakers. Along the way, he relays a few tidbits of note, so let’s dive in and round them up…
- The Lakers are still viewed by O’Connor’s sources as the favorites to sign LeBron James, though they aren’t considered locks. O’Connor notes that some executives believe James has already decided on the Lakers and that his “indecision is all theater.”
- According to O’Connor, James “remains interested” by the idea of playing with Cousins. If that happens, it would almost certainly be with the Lakers, since no other team has the cap room to sign both players.
- If the Lakers make Cousins a contract offer, league sources expect it to be a one- or two-year maximum-salary deal, says O’Connor. That would allow both sides to test out the fit on a trial basis, though it might not be enough to lure Cousins away from the Pelicans if New Orleans makes a longer-term offer.
- The Wizards are considered a possible sign-and-trade spot for Cousins, but O’Connor’s sources classify such a deal as a long shot. Alex Len is a more realistic target for Washington, O’Connor adds.
The Sixers should offer Cousins a deal and make it a 3 year deal.
Plus I would not bring Leonard on the team.
I do not want to see King James in Philly
I don’t think either are Philly guys
I know one fella said Brown and Leonard are close, but they really have not seen each other since 2013….So….
Lastly I would roll the dice on Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
So let me recap
Bring in Cousins and Caldwell-Pope and call it an off-season and I would tell the Spurs to Sit on It.
Why you have Embiid?
Embiid can’t play every game.
Plus Embiid does not practice
You could have a rotation of Embiid and Cousins or play them both together at times
I don’t see the issue
Really? You don’t see the issue of having two max salary guys that play the same position on the court?
New Orleans would be doing the same thing. Embiid has handles and outside shot like Anthony Davis.
Lol
that would be a waste of cap space
Not Philly guys?
What exactly is a “Philly guy”? The 76ers haven’t won a championship in 35 years. Maybe their problem is worrying about guys that fit the blue print of the city…
I’d stay away from Cousins. Who knows what he’ll be after the injury, I’d let someone else take that risk.
It’s a good thing you’re not their GM.
A trio of cousins leonard and james is pretty lethal. Floor spacing wise it makes more sense than pg because we have ingram and kuzma. Hell even capela is a upgrade over randle at the center position. I think randle gonna take qualifiying offer or agree to a multi year deal at a lower average. Longterm though i see randle as more of a backup than a starter due to his lack of range or size. Interesting offseason to say the least so far.
LeBron has always liked Kevin Love. If healthy he would be an upgrade. He can’t play the 4, but he’s a better scorer, rebounder, and defender. LeBron says he’s the best center in the NBA. But what will the Lakers do if the Spurs trade Kawhi to the Sixers or Celtics. Blows the Lakers chance of getting him next summer. They’ve reported LeBron told his sponsors where he’s going. They said last night after coming back from Anguilla he has all the information he needs to make a decision. I think he’s just being a drama king again to please the media!
That is Cousin’s would be an upgrade over Love.
LeBron likes Love because Love is a great shooter and passer. Cousins isn’t an upgrade in either area.
Cousins is a great passer (5 assts pg last year) and a decent shooter (36% last year). Plus he’s a more skilled big man who can dribble with the ball and take it to the hole and finish around the basket. I am a big fan of Love but Cousins is a better player.
Otto Porter for Demarcus Cousins is about as equal a trade as there could possibly be.
It gives New Orleans the wing scorer they so desperately need, and delivers a legit front court monster to play alongside the best back court in the East.
What would it take cap wise for the Lakers to get LeBron, Cousins, re-sign KCP, and maybe someone like Javale as a rim protector off the bench? I’m trying to figure out what they can really do at this point, with Paul George staying in OKC, and Kawhi super unlikely to be traded there. I feel like LeBron makes them a contender by himself, but for them to matchup with GS, they need more depth. KCP was an important part of their defense last year. I feel like KCP, Hart, Ingram, Kuzma isnt a bad wing rotation around LeBron. I could also see them adding a backup PG that can defend.
Otherwise, it’s hard for me to see LeBron going there, other than just the fact he has a summer home there
What a pair of beasts would be to see LBJ & DMC playing together. DMC is a great shooter, last year he was the best 3pt shooter in NOLA, & Jokic apart is the best passing center since Kareem in the 70’s, K-Love might be a bit better shooter, but is nowhere near a passer like DMC.
