Anthony Davis had a meeting with executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin earlier today and while the conversation was “productive,” it appears Davis has already made up his mind. Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter links) reports that it’s still highly unlikely that Davis backs off of his trade request.
The Pelicans continue to hold out hope that Davis will reconsider. He’s under contract through the end of the 2019/20 season, so New Orleans could roll the dice and hope that playing alongside presumed No. 1 overall pick Zion Williamson for a season will help to change his tune.

More likely, if the Pelicans continue to get the message that Davis will leave, they’ll trade him before the 2020 trade deadline. The Lakers and Knicks are reportedly on his list of preferred destinations. The two teams’ most valuable assets are the No. 3 and No. 4 overall picks, respectively, in the view of sources around the league.
The Celtics are also expected to make a run at trading for Davis, as they envision pairing the big man with Kyrie Irving, who a free agent this summer. Rumblings about the Clippers and Nets as dark horse teams have surfaced as well.
Can see kyrie and kd in new york or kd and ad with kyrie in brooklyn. Wouldn’t be unhappy just want more parity in the league. Tired of it being the 2 teams. Hope kawhi stays too its good to see toronto doing well.
Glad you can see it. But it aint happening. Kyrie and AD in Boston.
Doubt it kyrie reportedly just bought a house in new york.
Damn, never heard of a pro athlete buying a house in NY before.
Not to mention the reports of him renovating his Boston pad.
Boston… Lol
The only valu Boston has to trade would make them a bottom feeder. That would be a repeat of what he went through in N.O.
The NBA has always been about 2-3 hood teams. Litteraly since the beginning. It amazes me that the most hated team is the one that plays actual team ball, are incredibly fun to watch, and don’t destroy the flow of the game with flopping or a painfully slow pace and hero ball. Basketball fans act like the league has this amazing tradition of parity, and it doesn’t.
This is easily one of the best comments I’ve read on here..
Accurate and well said..Job well done Dodgethis..
I just hope the refs collectively stop rewarding James Harden when he travels, consistently pushes off his opponents, and more often than not tries his hardest to flail his body in order to draw contact..Harden is a whiny child, but he’s smart. If they continue to give him the calls, he’s going to force the subject. The result is making a mockery of the game, making it less about actual basketball and more about referees…It’s just god awful..
Of course Harden is the only one pushing off or trying to draw fouls. Wtf are you talking about. You don’t see Curry lurching to the defender when shooting? You don’t see Draymond striking/raking opponent faces? Well holy GSW. Nevermind @dodge’s appreciation of allstargame-type basketball and “2-3 hood teams”. Hilarious irony for his preferences.
Dream on NY CELTICS ALL THE WAY
Well then the meeting WASN’T productive…..
Why not just sign the Superman and stay for a year? Publicly demanding trades already works apparently.
So give it up Grif! Get this thing over with.
Must I remind you that the Knicks traded all they could for Melo and it crippled their franchise. A deal for AD would do the same not worth the price. Keep the pieces and rely solely on free agency and draft.
AD is better. In the 3 years prior to the trade, Melo’s net totaled 0, while Davis’ is 10, 17,& 17. Other stats similar. The Melo trade was nuts.
It didn’t cripple the franchise. The picks weren’t that high. I think the inability to surround him with other stars was the problem. Knicks feel like they can get two major FA and trade for AD. Without the 2 FA’s I don’t think they would make that deal.
I do feel AD is a bit overrated at this point. The Knicks traded a ton of bodies but none near the value of what I’ve heard the Lakers and possibly the Celtics were willing to part with.
What exactly did the Knicks do when they got Melo? Oh yeah, kept stepping backwards. Go ahead and trade for AD, sign KD and ‘fill your roster with experienced veterans’ That always works out…
Knicks made a bad 2nd move… Amare
Actually, they acquired Amare first as a FA in a sign-and-trade then Anthony during the season before the trade deadline.
they had one really good year with melo … who knows if they would have made playoffs with the pcs they gave up to get melo and the crippling did not come until they hired trill phill jackson
It takes more than one player to develop a good team. Not sure what your point is. What did the GSW do? They assembled a group of stars surrounded by vets. They did it thru drafting but it can be done thru FA and trades too. Likely not the first season but it’s better than what they’ve been trying to do of late.
Griffin is almost certainly going to deal him this off season, and he may try as early as the draft (although I doubt he’ll get it done then). But he’s playing it smart. He does not want to appear too anxious or to be taking “going to the deadline” off the table. Not to potential trade partners. Not to AD and his agent. The best deal will likely come only when other things are sorted out, in any event.
I would be shocked if he didn’t trade the pick prior to the draft. Make that trade before the FA period starts. It would make for a much better draw to attract players. Knowing they MIGHT trade for AD vs having AD already on the roster to help recruit stars is key.
I think it’s the opposite for the most part. The best offers won’t come until the potential buying teams know what they have (other than him) and what their alternatives are. A best offer for AD makes the most sense if he’s last piece to a contending core, not if he’s “maybe” the first or second.
Of the “mentioned” teams, I can only see the Celts putting their best offer out there in the pre-FA period (because it’s KI, their own FA, that they’d be trying to get to stay if AD is added, and they can talk to KI in real time). The Knicks and Clips can’t rationally deplete their rosters for a rental (it will cost him money to extend) on the hope that he “might” lure a FA target. The Lakers may be bidders for AD regardless, but if they sign a KI or KL (or KD), they may be “willing” (or committed) to offer more.
Griffin and Ainge have likely been talking since he got the job. So, regardless of anything else, I expect a “reported” Celt offer in the week or so prior to the draft. If Ainge gets KI’s sign-off, the offer is likely real and might be too good to pass up. Otherwise, the offer is likely a stalking horse and the thing goes into July.
Pels are already not going to get what was offered previously, including the Boston ‘just wait and see’ offer. Dump AD and move forward, dragging this along any further just looks bad.
Why wouldn’t they get what the Knicks or Lakers offered. What’s changed exactly?
The only (even purported) offers I read came from the Lakers. The best one reported was the 4 young players plus their 2019 1st, when it figured to be in the 12-18 range (and might have been if the trade was made). Pels will do better, and I’d be surprised if the Lakers don’t offer #4 plus another 1st in addition to the same players.
Proposal for supermax eligibility players.
Players get no trade clauses essentially. They can publicly say which teams they want to be traded to.
If a player doesn’t agree to a trade they lose supermax eligibility.
If a team doesn’t agree to a trade than the player loses supermax eligibility.
In any case I just want players to reach free agency but stop with these public demands or concerns about their “brand” or “business”. If you say you want a trade say it and polarize your fans rather than having your people do it for you.
I don’t know if that helps a team or not. I think the rule should be that a player can not be traded until they’ve played at least 3 seasons of the 5 year deal. If it’s 4 then half.
What does this achieve? Players already lose supermax eligibility if they’re traded before they sign. And if a player requests a trade he’s obviously not going to resign with his current team.
No one with a supermax has ever asked for a trade. Even asking for a trade is rare and so what? Teams don’t have to oblige.
He’d look great in a Lakers uniform
Davis to NY for the number 3, Mundlay and one other player. NOLA drafts 2 Dukies – Williamson and Barrett
Mundlay? I’ll assume you mean Mudiay and not what sounds like a supporting character on a cartoon.
The only way NY gets AD is to give up 3, Knox, and Robinson. And even then it might not be enough. All I know is that Mudiay is not going to move the needle in any way whatsoever.
Mudiay will a RFA… And hes not good.
That offer is too light. I would imagine that Knox and Mitchell need to be included too.
AD is been consistently the best player in the league for the last 3-5 years, so he can never be overrated. The only problem is that the Pels had their best offers in February, no way a team would offer as much now, if they do, they should fire their FO. So is hard to know what they will get now.
teams can play it two ways either you go all in and trade for him giving up top assets and or they can cross their fingers in hopes he signs in the offseason… which seams to me LBJ.PAUL,AD all want him in LA so really no need for DeStinka to give up the goods for him.
pels will look good with zion and the celtics package – plus holiday’s a good chip to stabilize a positive rebuild. don’t be surprised if pels want to dump a bad contract.
Well the Raptors will be looking for a guy for a ‘one year rental’ again next year…that video was golden Kawhi’s sister
You take the best overall asset. So the debate is… RJ vs Tatum vs Kuzma/Ingram. RJ has the most team control, and had been consensus #1 pick until Zion blew up. Tatum you have to think about rookie wage scale looming. Same with Kuzma and Ingram.
Knicks package has the best chances of hitting a homerun for 7 yrs. Plus the Mavs unprotected pick is ab the same value as the Memphis pick.
Everyone is just so convinced that AD will go to either Boston, LA, or NY. Just think back the past two years to the biggest trade. Paul George was going to the Lakers…until he wasn’t and got traded to the Thunder. Then Kawhi Leonard was 100% going to the Clippers or Lakers…until he wasn’t and went to Toronto.
Anthony Davis will go somewhere unexpected. You can almost guarantee it. Whether it is Houston or Milwaukee or Philly or Charlotte or Utah. Who knows? All I know is that NOBODY expected OKC or Toronto to get the biggest prize the past two years, so basically any guess could be correct.
And what assets does Houston pass on Capela, Paul and a bunch of late 1st rnd picks), Milwaukee (Brogdon and picks wouldn’t do it and I don’t think he’s a fit with Giannis because they would clog up the post and AD is NOT an elite 3pt threat), Philly (It would have to be Embid who’s a huge injury concern and Simmons and Zion wouldn’t be a good idea on the same team), Charlotte (not a lot of assets beyond 2nd or 3rd year players that are still unproven) or Utah (Donovan Mitchell and Gobert are their only assets and I can’t see the net gain being good enough).
Did you think Oladipo and Sabonis would get George? Most people at the time considered that a VERY weak package for George. In fact, they were consider a lot like your position on Charlotte, 2nd and 3rd year players that were still unproven.
Did you expect Kawhi to get traded for DeRozan? Most people expected a combo of young players and draft picks. Could a Middleton sign and trade be a possibility?
Besides, I wasn’t specifically thinking ANY of those teams would get him. Not to mention the fact that you have no idea what the NOLA GM wants or likes. Just because you don’t like certain players doesn’t mean everyone feels that way.
You’re talking about trades and where they Want to go. It takes at least 2 teams to make a trade. LAL thought arrogantly they would just get PG13 for free.
DeRozan was the best package, better than Saric, Bridges, RoCo, and possibly Fultz.
Offers the Pacers passed on were questionable assets, unknown bc they were picks, or older veterans like Crowder or Bradley.
Harris trade wouldn’t have been bad, but who knows what else was included.
Dipo and Sabonis was a good get compared to what else was supposedly on the table.
mavs and Memphis picks are in no way better then the #3 or #4 in this years draft … BUT the #3(RJ) along with robinson/dsj is that better then the #4(?) and kuzma/ball?
I was saying the Mavs and Memphis picks are a push. Those are addons to the trade.
Robinson,Shai,Gallinari, and draft picks for AD.
Trading with either the Knicks or the Lakers makes the most sense by far, because those teams employ the worst decision makers in the league.
The Pelicans should have them big against each other, then take their “king’s ransom” of a haul and try not to laugh too hard.
…so while I like to make fun of the Celtics, I don’t think their a likely destination, since Danny Ainge is unlikely to make a completely terrible deal.
Perry and Pelinka have no idea what they’re doing.
*they’re!!!! not “their”… yikes
