The Knicks and Terry Rozier have mutual interest in a short-term deal, Marc Berman of the New York Post reports. Sources tell Berman that Rozier would be open to a one- or two-year contract.
New York’s interest has increased since the reports of the Celtics–Kemba Walker connection surfaced. If Walker commits to Boston, the New England franchise would likely have to renounce Rozier, making him an unrestricted free agent. Steve Mills and the Knicks’ front office wouldn’t want to tie up cap space for several days while they wait to see if the Celtics match a Rozier offer sheet, so their interest would likely hinge on him becoming unrestricted, as Berman details.

“After Kyrie and Kemba, I think Rozier is next up,’’ a source close to the situation tells Berman. “I think he’d be good with Kevin Knox and R.J. [Barrett].”
The Celtics have yet to present a qualifying offer to Rozier. If they get a sense that a top free agent point guard is coming to Boston, they may allow him to be an unrestricted free agent, either by withdrawing the QO early in free agency or not offering it to begin with.
A short-term deal between Rozier and the Knicks would allow the point guard to try to improve his stock and position himself for a max deal in the future, Berman writes. For the Knicks, it would reduce the risk associated with handing big money to unproven commodity.
Rozier’s role in Boston was primarily off the bench and one scout told Berman that Rozier didn’t handle that role well, consistently pushing for more minutes. Another source told Berman that Rozier’s underwhelming season was due to toxic locker room chemistry.
If the Knicks were to sign Rozier, they’d plan on making him their starter at the point guard position. The team remains in the hunt for Durant and if they land the former MVP, he’d likely have the opportunity to have input on other signings, including a Rozier addition.
Rosier got way too full of himself.
A good shot is a scary shot, the one called Scary thought.
(That was kind of mean, but it had a fitful ring)
Avtually I would like to see what hapeens when scary Terry gets a shot at #1 PG. It could work, or not, or just be a tease.
Id rather they keep rozier, if hes open to a one or two year deal with the knicks then it shoukdnt take an absurd contract to keep him in town. Love his quotes, they always make me laugh and theyre never wrong lols. His game isnt bad either, way more upside then walker, already looks like at worst hed shoot the ball just about as well as walker too. Rather see smart, and rozier back, when the celtics spend money the best case is they end up with a guy like Horford, worst case they end up signing the Haywards and LaFentzs of the world. Walker has good player on a bad team written all over him has never put up anything above league average shooting at his position id pass.
you didnt just say that did you
Say No to drugs Steve !!
I hope Steve doesn’t speak like he writes.
Yeah…a lot in common. They’re both Black and play PG. That’s about it.
rozier made it known many times he want playing. so if boston get walker , i woudnt be surprise if he wants out
If they get Walker he has no choice… they have to renounce his cap hold, thus losing the ability to go over the cap to resign him so he’d have to sign elsewhere. (unless he took a small MLE type deal – but he’s not going to do that, especially not to return to a team with 2 other PGs)
No. Unless, they pay him like what he is (a backup), and not like what he thinks he is or can be, and they trade DSJ. They can’t give Rozier a real chance to start, and DSJ the opportunity to develop into a starter. Fizdale’s “time sharing” at every spot stunted player development and precluded team development last year. We don’t need to double down on it next year.
If the Celtics, who know him best, don’t believe he’s a starter, then why would anyone else? Do they have a history of letting starter quality players walk-?
They really need to change the RFA system so that teams don’t lose cap space until they actually sign the player. Its dumb that all this bureaucracy stands in the way of a team signing a free agent that wants to sign.
The R in RFA stands for “restricted.” If a team doesn’t want a cap hold, they shouldn’t make the QO.
It’s not a bug, it’s a feature.
Yeah…a lot in common. They’re both Black and play PG. That’s about it.
I truly, truly hope the Knicks pass on Rozier. That’s not a good look and I wouldn’t want his attitude on this team. Knicks need some good character guys instead of guy who “want’s his” and stupid enough to say so twice on ESPN.
Rozier is a perfect fit for the Knicks – he wants to be on the big stage, and the Knicks have a history of overpaying free agents.
Rozier and his selfish outlook on life makes him the perfect representative for Dolan and the Knicks. He will screw up RJ Barrett before training camp ends.
