The Rockets are engaged with multiple teams on possible trades involving center Clint Capela, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The NBA’s annual trade deadline will arrive on Thursday, February 6.
Houston has discussed packages centered around Capela with several Eastern Conference clubs, Wojnarowski notes. The Hawks are among those clubs, with a few multi-team trade scenarios also reportedly in play between now and Thursday.

The Rockets have centers Isaiah Hartenstein and Tyson Chandler behind Capela, with the team currently sitting fifth in the West at 31-18. Capela, who will make $16.5MM this season, is also under contract for next season ($17.5MM), 2021/22 ($18.5MM), and 2022/23 ($19.6MM).
In talks around the league, the Rockets are expressing that they’d like to acquire a wing and center if they move Capela this week, according to Wojnarowski. The team could also acquire draft compensation for the big man, which would likely be flipped for a wing player.
Capela, 25, is in his sixth season with the Rockets. He’s expected to be one of the most sought-after players ahead of the trade deadline, averaging 13.9 points, 13.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks through 39 games this season.
Woj since moving to ESPN is not the same.
Send him to ATL for Len and picks and trade exceptions/expiring then flip the picks and trade exceptions/expirings to Memphis for Iggy and Crowder.
Out of all the centers mentioned, this is the one I hope Atlanta can get. This would give them defense and payroll flexibility going forward. Need those picks to be protected though if they trade them.
Capela puts up Drummond like numbers and cost about half as much and plays better defence.
Any chance Boston do something.
It’s hard to see them making a deal with those contracts they have but Capel would be perfect for them. He’s all locked up on a nice deal so it’s not like you have to worry about FA and he would help a lot against the likes of Embid in the east.
Rockets have no choice but to include him. For some trade value, yes, but even more to get a substantial enough outgoing contract in the mix. The other issue is will they be willing to go over the tax line.
Of course they are. In desperate need of cap room.
Hard to imagine a trade worth making. Capela is going to be hard to replace, and the league just doesn’t value 5’s very much.
Houston would be better off waiting until the summer and seeing if they can get involved in a bigger trade…you never know who could be on the market come July 1st.
I don’t get why they need a wing. Capelas an all star when used right. Maybe Cleveland for Osman and Thompson or love? They could talk the the bulls about Porter jr.
No way one of Boston’s wings.. they’re playing out of their mind
Probably Iguodala-related. Could be 4 teams in it.
Boston, Milwaukee, Miami
How about a swap of Capela for Justice Winslow and Chris Silva from Miami? Gives Miami a deadly frontcourt with Capela and Bam whereas Houston gets their wing in Winslow, capable of handling the ball if needed, and Silva who’s a solid young center that’s only going to get better.
Is Winslow healthy?
What about Capela to Washington for Bryant and Bertans?
I think the Rockets would definitely consider making that trade.
No surprise, i was sure.
They need to do something and this is their only way
If I’m Boston, I’m copying Masai and the Raptor’s MO from last season. The C’s are having a good season, but they’re likely not good enough. I would see if I could send Hayward and/or Kanter out and land Capela.
Can see a 3 team deal for Capela to the Hawks.
Hawks: Capella, J.Johnson
Rockets: Winslow, Len, 1st
Heat: Collins, Turner
Actually looks pretty dang good for everyone.
No way hawks trade Collins. He is too valuable in my opinion.
Why would the Hawks give up Collins?
i like the Kevin love trade idea. trade Capela and tucker (or nene- cant remember what is contract is like?) for love. reunite westbrook and love from ucla days. Love helps spread the floor and give them a much needed 3 start. also clears the lane for the guards. it will also create a roster spot and houston can be aggressive on the buyout market. Loves contract is also 4 years- just like hardens and westbrook.
How about Kevin Knox and Bobby Portis for Clint Capella and a first rounder? Capellas numbers:
G
39
334
PTS
13.9
12.2
TRB
13.8
9.7
AST
1.2
Those rebounding numbers and scoring are nothing to flinch at. He’s a walking double double. God I want him in the Knicks badly
Any trade the Knicks make should provide Mitchell Robinson more playing time.
Why in the world would Houston to that? Houston gives up the two best assets in that deal and gets Knox – a useful rotation piece but a backup in Houston – and Portis, a journeyman forward.
While I love him to death, the Celtics could trade Marcus Smart and a young center (Williams or Theis) to Houston for Capela. Or they could offer a package of youngsters (Langford, G. Williams, etc..) along with either Kanter or Theis and one of their draft picks (perhaps the Memphis pick) for Capela. Not sure if the salaries would match up enough here though. I would love to see what Capela could bring to Boston!
Houston is a win now team, and so are most of the natural suitors for Capela. So, I could definitely see a 3 team deal, involving an Eastern conference contender and a team (either conference) that’s looking for future assets. This is where a FO, particular for the 3rd team, makes its bones.
