Jazz guard Mike Conley has left the team to travel to Columbus, Ohio, for his son’s birth, tweets Shams Charania of The Athletic. A source tells Eric Woodyard of ESPN that Conley plans to return to be part of the team’s playoff run (Twitter link).
There’s no definite word on how long Conley will be away, but with Utah’s series against Denver starting tomorrow, he will miss the first two games for sure and probably the first three, according to Tim Bontemps of ESPN (Twitter link). The Jazz and Nuggets will play every other day until the series is over.
The NBA typically requires players who leave the campus for personal reasons to quarantine for at least four days when they return.
Conley averaged 14.4 points and 4.4 assists per game in his first season with Utah after spending 12 years in Memphis.
Big loss for the Jazz. Conley has been steadily improving for the team since his dismal start to the season. Already without Bogdanovic, this could seal Utah’s fate. Good luck stopping Murray without his defense
Some things in life are bigger than trophies and rings. Congrats to him and family.
I believe the jazz can still hold their own against the nuggets. They have to used that next man up mentality. Inevitably they will lose in the end.
He has his life priorities in order. Denver is the better team anyway.
So go to the hospital and hang and watch the game on TV. Wish you could be there and run and help your team (I can relate, but Conley is actually needed IRL). But wife needs a hand. Then back to Orlando to watch a couple more games alone in four days of quarantine before returning to the depleted lockkerroom probably too far behind to come back, wasting the dreams of a very long year.
Seems to me like excessive role-modeling. Wife & baby can’t wait?
Did you just ask of the birth of his child can wait? You would prefer he stay so the Jazz can maybe get 2 wins off before going home? And what part of this can you relate to? Like in any capacity lol.
“The birth of his child can wait”? No fool the birth can happen without him as dads are not necessary. Making a baby’s birth wait is not a thing.
I can relate to watching a game and wanting to be in it, or imagining what I might do. Very typical for one called a fan. It would be real in Conley’s case.
Really basic questions, probably circling your point.
Utah lost in OT and Conley’s replacement had 3 points. He’s never won a title or Allstar notice. The wife should be like, don’t dare leave, I can do this.
This unfortunately reminded me that Gordon Hayward is going to be leaving Orlando at some point for the birth of his child too. Which I totally understand and support from his personal standpoint BUT man that is going to SUCK if the C’s are in the heart of a deep postseason run and he winds up having to miss 2-3 games because of the quarantine protocols etc. — The NBA should come up with some sort of exception for this — at least because it’s the postseason… Like idk maybe test the guys everyday while they’re away from the bubble and as long as they’re all negative then don’t require further quarantine time when they get back? Too bad there’s no hospital on the Disney campus!! Hahaha they should have made a maternity wing in the bubble!! (just kidding)
Rules are the same for all! You can’t risk the whole bubble concept just for the very few guys leaving to have babies! If their team is good enough they will survive, if not next year. Anyway they could pick up an injury & miss 2-3 games anyway, so not a biggie, right?
Rules are rules. You knew them coming in. Considering the pandemic. I wouldn’t leave for my child’s birth. Today’s technology you are there practically. You can watch the video. It’s not like the baby knows. It’s a pandemic. If your team has a shot. You shouldn’t leave imo.
