Rockets forward Robert Covington was checked for a concussion after a fourth-quarter collision with Lakers star Anthony Davis on Tuesday night, writes Tim MacMahon of ESPN.com. However, Covington passed the concussion protocol test and is expected to be available for Game 4 on Thursday, a source tells MacMahon.
Covington took an inadvertent Davis elbow to the face during the collision and was “bleeding pretty good,” as head coach Mike D’Antoni said after the game, but he doesn’t have a broken nose, per MacMahon.
Here’s more on the Rockets:
- The Rockets are uncertain about Danuel House‘s status for Game 4, but are hoping he’ll be available, a source tells MacMahon (Twitter link). House, who would provide added depth in Houston’s frontcourt, missed Game 3 on Tuesday for personal reasons.
- Rockets general manager Daryl Morey recently told USA Today that locking up head coach Mike D’Antoni to a new contract this offseason will be a top priority for the club. A source close to D’Antoni tells Jared Greenberg of TNT (video link) that the veteran coach is pleased Morey feels that way, but that it will be up to D’Antoni to decide whether or not he returns. While it still appears very possible that D’Antoni could be coaching the Rockets in 2020/21, it will be interesting to see if the two sides follow the lead of Billy Donovan and the Thunder and end up mutually agreeing to part ways after the season.
- In case you missed it, Rockets assistant GM Monte McNair is one of six candidates reportedly being considered by the Kings for their head of basketball operations opening.
Game 2
Westbrook 15 shot attempts 10 points
Game 3
Gordon 9 shot attempts 10 points
Rockets need more shot attempts so that the third best players can step up
If Dantoni and Donovan switch teams, that will certainly challenge the certainties of our HWM. I guess I don’t remember him putting down Donovan…
Lakers in 5. Lakers out rebounded them 43 to 30 the lakers are simply to big for the rockets. This is all while both harden and westbrook scored 30 points each…..nba wants lakers/clippers desperately.
Why is everyone here so hyperbolic and reactionary? After every little phenomenon or mishap, half the commenters freak out and immediately push a narrative. I doubt the Rockets win the series, but can they not push it to six or seven games? They haven’t exactly gotten blown out, and all it takes is a hot shooting night to steal a victory.
Other notable examples include commenters acting as though the sky was falling after the Lakers droped a single game against Portland, Rockets fans insisting OKC was vastly inferior to their team, and some proclaiming the Finals contender in the East is destined to get obliterated. Can people relax and just let things play out before immediately rushing to the comment section to make an often regrettable declaration?
For a good defensive team like the Lakers the Rockets are an easy team to defend in the playoffs
The definition of bandwagon lol.
Rockets are outmatched. No way they win 3/4 against the Lakers.
Rockets are just what they thought would be superior to all other teams; shooters that spread the floor. The only problem there is that your only backup plan is to drive the lane. No posts, no picks, just shoot or drive. They rely on the 3 like no other, which is great for the Lakers.
Basketball is a 2way sport. I don’t know how may times we have to say it. You don’t have to be a Great D team. But you have to able to make stops. Playoffs are all possession gms, 90% of time. It’s why every team needs a rim protector. Even if he only plays 15-20 mins a gm. You will need him. Warriors changed the gm cause of their shooting. Not small ball. Small ball has been around since the beginning. What fans forget is. Warriors were top 2-5 Defensive team in league. While they were going to 5 Finals, winning 3. Rockets have taken small ball and shooting. To another extreme level. But if you can’t shoot more than 42% FG. And you can’t matchup on D. It’s over. Rockets try and make it up by volume. Shoot 15 more shots and more threes. It’s a flawed system. Every team in NBA carries 15 players. You can suit up 12. So every team should be able to go small or big. With no problem. Lakers go small with AD, Bron, Kuzma they still overpower Rockets. Clippers can match Lakers bigs. But then overpower their wings. Cause they are deeper there. It’s going to be LA Final.
