Trail Blazers big man Zach Collins underwent revision surgery today to repair a left medial malleolus stress fracture, the team announced today in a press release. A specific timeline for his return hasn’t been set, with the team indicating he’ll be out indefinitely.
It’s the second procedure Collins has undergone on his left ankle, which he injured during the NBA’s summer restart. He first had surgery on that ankle on September 1.
It’s a tough setback for Collins, who had hoped to return to action at some point in January. Since entering Portland’s starting lineup on a full-time basis at the start of the ’19/20 season, the 23-year-old has only been able to play in 11 games, having missed most of last year due to shoulder surgery.
In 154 career regular season games (17.5 MPG), Collins has averaged 5.7 PPG and 4.0 RPG on .444/.324/.722 shooting.
Collins was eligible for a rookie scale extension prior to the start of this season, but he and the Trail Blazers opted to table contract negotiations until the summer of 2021. The thinking was that Collins would get a chance to prove his value after a lost 2019/20 campaign. Now it’s no longer clear exactly if or when he’ll get that opportunity.
Good thing they have Harry Giles as backup power forward
Is it Giles?— not Melo, or Nassir Little, or Covington? I thought Giles was a 5, and disappointing in the past. Not a big need for size at the 4, given Nurkic and Kanter at the 5, though GM Olshey likes size there.
they should get luc mbah a moute da dude could play PF and SF. reliable shooter and lockdown defender. little, collins, and hood are all frequently getting injured
TD
Now Blazers can trade McColumn, Jones jr and picks for Harden
That would be a terrible trade
It’s literally impossible for the Rockets to make a trade and get back anything close to fair value for Harden.
It’s not like the Bucks or Mavs will trade Giannis or Doncic so there’s no other fair trade out there so it’s extremely unlikely that anything is going to happen.
Well
George traded for 2 starters and 5 Firsts
Holiday traded for 2 starters and 5 Firsts alike
Very comparable ?
No, Harden is worth 2 times of Hiliday
Blazers don’t have enough available assets
Bust. It was a serious reach where they drafted him in the first place, especially considering who was picked right after him, but now it’s official. Bummer.
Malik Monk was picked right after him. Are you Malik’s mom?
I think he was referring to Mitchell and Adebayo that were picked 3 and 4 picks after. Of course, Mitchell likely would not have broken out on Portland since the opportunity to score was not there and Bam would have probably just been another guy without being on a serious contender like the Heat.
I mean, Josh Jackson, Dennis Smith and Nitilkina were picked before Collins. Lakers picked Lonzo Ball second. Philly picked Fultz first. LOTS of blame to go around that draft.
Fair point. Although Fultz and Ball have proven to be competent NBA players, even if they are likely to never reach superstar status. And Jackson could be in an ideal break out situation in Detroit right now. And I still have faith that Ntikilina and/or DSJ could be salvaged if they got out of the train wreck that is MSG.
You must not watch must Bam. Kid can pay.
I’ve watched Bam play since high school once he committed to UK. I know he can play. You missed the point completely. If he played well on Portland, he is a good big man on a virtually unknown team in a small market. With Miami he is a good big man on a big market team that just reached the Finals. Perception is far more important than actual talent.
It’s remarkable that 2 of the 3-4 best players in that draft were picked at #13 and #14.
Not really that remarkable. Some of the best players in the league were picked in the 10-15 range (PG13, Giannis, Kawhi, Mitchell). In my opinion, the reason is that the teams picking in those slots are really just one player away from being contenders and sometimes a perfect marriage happens (like with Mitchell and George) or they are teams that are sliding down and have tons of opportunity and patience for players to grow (like Giannis and Bam). Devin Vassell is my pick from this draft to do the same since SA should give him time to grow. Although it could easily be Haliburton if Sacramento trades Fox or figures out how to play them together.
Hali and Fox are a amazing Duo. Hali is a good off Ball player with good shooting. And in the 4th quarter was Hali the ball leader. He have a good passing. Don’t many turnover. Can you one team saying, where Haliburton don’t chemise have game? Or one player?
Not cool to hurt same ankle. Need long rest let it heal. Blazers have legitimate shot at west finals. They need all their players though. Collins has a bright future imo. Better get it under control.
they still have nas little who prob will never get a chance to make da rotation. they should trade simon or something cuz other than getting injured frequently he’s kind of inconsistent and hasnt lived up to his potential. could have gotten shelvin mack or shabazz napier. someone who plays similar to lillard yk shoots threes and playmaking
