Timberwolves star center Karl-Anthony Towns continues to recover from the novel coronavirus. Minnesota head coach Ryan Saunders has noted that Towns has made some strides recently as he works his way back, according to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic (Twitter link).
“He’s really been able to push himself,” Saunders said of the Timberwolves’ leading scorer. “Our medical group has been able to try to simulate certain stints during a game, the stopping and going, what that might feel like with his lungs.” Krawczynski adds in a separate tweet that Saunders says Minnesota’s medical team needs to examine the way Towns’s lungs respond to “high-intensity work.”
There’s more out of the Northwest Division:
- The Jazz can take cold comfort in the fact that, while star point guard Mike Conley is out indefinitely with a hamstring injury, the injury is not considered as severe as a similar hamstring injury he suffered last season, Tony Jones of The Athletic tweets.
- The Timberwolves‘ youngest players have surprisingly emerged as some of Minnesota’s best, as Michael Rand of The Star Tribune details. Jordan McLaughlin, Anthony Edwards, Jaylen Nowell, Jaden McDaniels, Naz Reid, and Jarred Vanderbilt have impressed with their play of late.
- After missing nearly three weeks of action due to COVID-19, Timberwolves power forward Juan Hernangomez is now striving to break back into Minnesota’s rotation, according to Chris Hine of The Star Tribune. His younger teammates Vanderbilt and McDaniels have supplanted him in the power forward rotation for now, though Hernangomez enjoyed a productive nine-minute stint last night. “I’m probably the MVP of waiting for my chance,” Hernangomez said. “I’m happy for the young guys to develop. If I get my chance, I’m going to try to do my best.”
Jazz can be a dark horse IMO. But definitely cannot afford any lingering injury to MC. How he comes back will be worth monitoring.
The Jazz have been a dark horse for the past 30 years. They clearly have no interest in win a championship.
Yes. The Jazz are only interested in raking in the bucks in that huge, profitable market they call “SLC” or “The Salt Lake City–Provo–Orem Combined Statistical Area.”
Honestly, I’m surprised they even try to win games. With their HUGE media market, that team basically prints money.
Not to mention that SLC residents are known for their hard partying and free spending. I mean, the Jazz have so much going on just making sure the kegs are stocked that they hardly have time for the game.
And don’t get me started on the lazy, shiftless Miller family. Sure sure, the original owner was a self made man who never took a day off, and his family has tried to live up to that legacy since his passing, but other than that, just sad.
Yes. The Jazz clearly have no interest in competing for a championship. You’re SO right.
I only posted my original thought because I was looking back on past Warriors Centers. Trading Andris Biedrins to Utah, plus players, and draft picks allowed Warriors to pick Iggy. Then the traded for Bogut, and the rest was history. I was certain that with the cap space they had, and draft picks, they would be a monster team for years to come…Nobody really talks about them.
“Impressed with impressive play”
Haha sounds impressive
Jazz will never win a ring until they give the name back to NO.
I find it interesting that nobody talks about how Karl Anthony Towns is, a young healthy man, is struggling to come back from Covid-19. A young healthy athlete is struggling with lung capacity to perform at the high level he is use to in his young life. It makes those that believe this was just a minor flu look like fools.
Not to mention Maxi Kleber said he felt “slow”. Athletes have been trained to say they r fine when injured from a young age. I played college basketball and had 5 ankle surgeries. And when asked by media I always said I was fine.. that’s what I was told to say. So, in short covid I’m sure has effected many of the athletes similarly and they r brain washed to b “fine”.
I know I’m that way. I still constantly play stuff off, to this day, even serious injuries or when I get really sick…until it’s really bad, and then after enough time, I maybe eventually have to say something
Like everything else in life I think it’s safe to say that this experience is different for everyone. Who knows he may have some preexisting condition that made his recovery worse.
As a Sixers fan, I would love to add Hernangomez to our roster.
And I’d be willing to give the Wolves a first-round pick for him.
He hasn’t improved much in six years, though he does have a plus on/off finally this year. Shouldn’t require a first to get him.
