The Knicks still seem more likely than not to forgo making a major trade at this week’s deadline, according to Ian Begley of SNY.tv. Besides not wanting to surrender major assets in a deal, the Knicks are also reluctant to disrupt the chemistry the current group has established, Begley explains.
Still, the team continues to monitor some of the more notable names available on the trade market. For instance, both Begley and Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports cite Evan Fournier as a possible target. Goodwill suggests New York is monitoring Fournier, while Begley says the club recently had a conversation with Magic about the veteran wing. It’s unclear if any progress was made in those talks, Begley notes.
Here’s more on the Knicks:
- Although the Knicks have been linked to Victor Oladipo and Lonzo Ball, a trade for either guard seems unlikely unless the asking price drops significantly, writes Begley. That’s not entirely out of the question in Oladipo’s case. David Aldridge, Kelly Iko, and Danny Leroux of The Athletic cited one executive who offered the following assessment on the Oladipo trade market: “I think they (the Rockets) will be selling very low on this, and possibly lower than anyone can imagine right now.”
- Begley confirms that a trade or buyout of Austin Rivers seems probable, as ESPN’s Zach Lowe suggested on Monday. If the team opens up a roster spot by moving Rivers, John Henson and Norvel Pelle are among the candidates the team would consider to fill it, sources tell SNY.
- Within his Knicks trade deadline primer, Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic weighs which players currently on the roster are the top candidates to be moved and proposes hypothetical deals for Oladipo and Norman Powell.
It’s nuts to me the Rockets chose Oladipo over LeVert. The Pacers are bandits. Based on this, could Oladipo fetch a Drummond-esque return, circa 2020? (Expiring matching salaries and a back-end second rounder)
Oladipo value
Last Week
Rockets Demand 2021 top 5 first round pick, $100 million value
Oladipo value decreases 50% each day
Today’s value $2 million
3pt 32%
Plays for number only
Don’t play defense or win
Maybe they thought they could flip Oladipo for more than Lavert at the TD. If that was the idea it doesn’t look like the gamble paid off
I think they’ll have to take whatever low ball offer they get this week, otherwise it seems VO walks for nothing
Maybe it was the health issue with LeVert. I think they thought they could resign Oladipo. Definitely blew it there. I would of took Allen too.
I was thinking the same. Kid has talent, younger, controllable. Granted he had a kidney issue at the time of the trade, but if they traded for him, they must’ve felt confident of the medical review.
Thought the same at first, but then it turns out LeVert to Pacers was technically a separate deal. So who knows if LeVert was even offered to Rockets. If he was and they turned it down, then I agree they are crazy for turning it down
It ended up one deal (pretty sure). But, regardless, the original configuration was contingent separate deals at Houston’s request, and they rejected both Allen/Prince and LeVert.
Not “lower than anyone can imagine” – not the GMs who’ve made offers apparently, and not most of the other GMs who haven’t.
The team trading for VO gets only his contract (a few more months). He’s not playing to that contract now (and hasn’t since returning from an injury a couple of years ago). If his contract has significant positive value to any teams, it’s those teams that are doing the real imagining.
Rivers would be a good pickup for one of the LA teams.
Clippers should go for Rivers (for 2nd rd pick). I think Knicks will buyout Rivers out. If a team he wants to go to does not trade for him. He’s been a good soldier here. So buying him out means he can go where he wants to go. Now that Knicks are relevant again. Everyone uses them to drive up value and exposure of players. Knicks management have spoken that they haven’t been aggressive in trade talks. Think they are monitoring the teams n players. And won’t get swept up in jumping on a deal. If they don’t get what they want they can afford to wait till FA. We have the cap to sign a player no problem. So it’s either a player on the cheap like Redick or Dipo on the cheap. Or a scorer shooter like Fournier on a fair value. I do believe they will add a player. Payton, Burkes, Rivers, Nttilikina, Noel, Bullock can all be used in a trade.
You must don’t give buyouts to players with market…
Everyone knows SAM PRESTI don’t, so if they want okc players they know they have do trade for…
With others, like cavs, other teams are waiting like vultures, knowing it’s not necessary make a deal but only wait
I’d rather the Knicks more or less stay pat, but if they can move any of their spare parts (Knox, Frank, Rivers, or anyone further down the bench) or Payton for anything of value, they should. Doubt they’ll be able to, though.
Knicks should consider Knox, Ntilikina, Payton, and an old pair of gym shorts to OKC for an umbrella that still kind of works and the draft rights to Abdul Shamsid-Deen.
