It’s been about three months since Jayson Tatum tested positive for COVID-19, but the Celtics forward is still dealing with the aftereffects of the virus, he acknowledged on Tuesday, per Tim Bontemps of ESPN.
“It’s a process. It takes a long time,” Tatum said. “I take an inhaler before the game since I’ve tested positive. This has kind of helped with that and opened up my lungs, and, you know, I never took an inhaler before. So that’s something different.”
Tatum said he “for sure” feels better now than he did a month ago, though he admitted he’s not sure when he’ll be able to stop using an inhaler before games.
“There’s no exact timetable,” Tatum said. “(It’s) just when I feel comfortable enough and I think I don’t need it.”
- The Knicks had internal discussions last week about the possibility of adding Anthony Tolliver, per Marc Berman of The New York Post. As Berman explains, New York was looking for a player who could play the center position, and Tolliver – who ended up signing with Philadelphia – is more of a forward.
- Raptors head coach Nick Nurse said on Tuesday that there was no timeline for Fred VanVleet‘s return from a hip injury, as Josh Lewenberg of TSN.ca tweets. However, according to Blake Murphy of The Athletic (Twitter link), VanVleet will serve his one-game suspension on Wednesday. Because VanVleet was suspended while injured, he wasn’t able to serve the one-game ban until he was cleared to play, so it sounds like his return may be imminent.
- Besides missing VanVleet tonight, the Raptors will also be without Kyle Lowry (rest/toe) and Gary Trent Jr. (ankle), Murphy notes (via Twitter). Despite a brutal 4-17 slump, Toronto is still just two games out of the 10th seed in the East, but injuries have prevented the team from making a push for a play-in spot.
Malachi Flynn showing why I thought Toronto should let someone else pay FVV, and should have tried to keep Ibaka, which I still think would have been the right play. Not sure who would take him in a trade, but if they can move him, that would make sense, even though they traded some depth away, losing Powell and Davis
Seeing guys like Tatum, Derrick Rose, KAT, Tristan Thmopson, Seth Curry, Mo Bamba, Kendrick Nunn, etc all talk about their issues recovering/the after effects really goes back to the issue that people have ignored from the beginning, and definitely brings it more to my own attention than it already has been, being that it’s not just the mortality rate, but these long term effects, and with athletes like this still struggling after lengthy periods, it brings up the question of how long they’ll be effected, and what ramifications will we see as more time goes by, where we’ll have a better grasp on just how many different issues are out there, and how they effect people, and if there is anything that can mitigate most of those issues…
Flynn is fine, but he’s a rookie and is nowhere close to FVV yet.
I shouldn’t have said he is the reason why. I thought so regardless, but the guy he was compd to before the draft was FVV, and his numbers as a starter/in big minutes are very good, including the advanced ones, obviously in the short sample, but it’s not outside of what I expected to see…Kyle Lowry is still much more important than FVV, in my opinion, and their issue behind Boucher has been obvious all year. I would also rather have Ibaka, Powell and Davis, plus maybe a doable addition at the 2/3 over having paid FVV what they paid him, which was a $20-30 million overpay, in my opinion
Lowry is not “much more important” than FVV.. Lowry is at the tail end of his career. FVV just signed a big money contract. Don’t get me wrong, I love Kyle, but FVV is underrated. He is a fantastic player when he is on the court. Boucher is a great shot blocker but he’s frustrating to watch at a lot of times. Fouls way too much and gets visibly down on himself. Either way, I still trust Masai.
Flynn is a project.
This guy is a rambler. Wants to be significant when he grows up. He got nothing
Raptors develop their players. Seems to be less distractions in Toronto. Flynn is not a big time athlete. But he plays the PG smart and plays both ways. If you watch his tapes. There is real potential there. I thought Knicks might take him. He improved (in college) in all areas and his FT shooting is solid. Means he will be a good shooter. Once he gets the speed of game. Have patience imo he has starter potential. His size works against him. Everyone looks for big PGs now. Some people here think size is a thing of the past. Flynn just needs time
Flynn does need time, he’s not there yet. I agree with you pretty much, Al. Are you calling me a rambler? Lol
That would be hilarious considering you comment a huge poorly punctuated paragraph about the Knicks on almost every article
That report was a rambler.
Like others I missed seeing him in the turny (cancelled) but I think he likes operating in the middle with a screener.
