The Clippers have officially re-signed DeMarcus Cousins, announcing today that the big man has inked a second 10-day contract with the team.
Cousins, 30, started the season with the Rockets but was released in February as Houston shifted into retooling mode. He signed a 10-day contract with the Clippers earlier this month and appeared in three games in his first 10 days with the team, averaging 6.0 PPG and 3.0 RPG in just 9.7 minutes per contest.
Cousins will earn $175,668 on his second contract with Los Angeles, while the team takes on a $110,998 cap hit. The deal will cover L.A.’s next five games, including tonight’s contest in Philadelphia.
With Cousins back under contract, the Clippers once again have a full 15-man roster, though only 13 of those players are on full-season deals — Cousins and Malik Fitts are on 10-day pacts.
Fitts could be re-signed to a second 10-day contract when his first one expires this weekend. However, when Cousins’ new deal expires, the Clippers will have to either let him go or sign him for the rest of the season. At this point, a rest-of-season contract seems like the most likely outcome, but we’ll have to see how the next 10 days go.
Man…whoever saw this guy signing 10 day contracts at age 30? He was awesome on the kings.
He has never been the same after all those injuries. Boogie being let go by the Rockets had absolutely nothing to do with the team going into rebuild mode. He was released shortly after Christian Wood’s injury only 7 games into their 20-game losing streak when the team still had a legitimate chance of making the playoffs. They cut Cousins because his defense was among the worst in the entire NBA.
Meh, injuries can take out anyone so quick. Makes sense to me.
Yeah really. Unfortunately injuries can do that to a career. At 30 I hope he can still get healthy enough. To at least be a solid backup, rotation guy. Not comparing him here. But Livingston came back after major injuries. And was a huge part of team as a rotation guy. I’m rooting for Cousins.
Livingston and Cousins are extremely different players with extremely different personalities. That being said, I love Boogie and wish him the best.
Boogie went from HOF >60% at age 27 chance to trending toward 0% at 30. Achilles injuries are no joke. Durant looked good in his return but I’m tepid on my expectations for the rest of his career.
Durant has looked way better so far this season than Boogie has, but he will be 33 next season and the Nets would be smart to limit his playing time to maximize his effectiveness with them over the duration of his contract.
Kobe tore his Achilles at 34 and came back fine. Couldn’t expect the same from another generational talent in Durant?
@phillyballers @namechangingrocketshomer
Kobe lost a ton of explosiveness after that ….still found ways to be great as the greats do but he def lost a bit
Couldn’t expect the same from another generational talent in Durant?
