Warriors star Stephen Curry will be entering a contract year in 2021/22 if he doesn’t reach an extension agreement in the offseason with the team. However, he doesn’t sound like someone eager to test free agency. Asked by ESPN’s Rachel Nichols (video link) how much of a priority it is to spend his entire career in Golden State, Curry affirmed that’s his plan.
“It’s always been a priority,” Curry said. “When you look at guys like Dirk (Nowitzki), Kobe (Bryant), that I played against and have heard them talk about what that’s meant, they don’t speak on it lightly. There’s a reverence for that club.
“You never know what can happen, obviously, but I feel like that’s always been something that would mean so much to me. You want to stay competitive, you want to stay in that fight where you’re winning championships. If I can accomplish both, that’s the ultimate goal.”
Here’s more on the Warriors:
- Warriors head coach Steve Kerr confirmed on Thursday night that James Wiseman‘s surgery was the more intricate meniscus repair, tweets Nick Friedell of ESPN. That procedure involves a longer recovery time, as we discussed earlier this week. It’s the same route the Grizzlies took with Jaren Jackson Jr., who has yet to play this season.
- Anthony Slater of The Athletic breaks down the takeaways from Wiseman’s rookie season and looks ahead to what’s next for the young center, noting that the 20-year-old’s offense was ahead of his defense in year one.
- Juan Toscano-Anderson has outplayed his two-way contract this season and figures to earn a promotion to the standard roster at some point, writes Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area. “You hope that (two-way) tag doesn’t last too much longer,” Curry said. “But while it does, he’s obviously playing way above that label.”
- Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report takes a closer look at the challenging financial situation that the Warriors face this offseason and beyond.
From a business perspective, you do whatever possible, including mortgaging a decade of the future, to keep Steph, while also trying to win a ring every year. You rarely get a player of Steph’s caliber. If he retires on GSW, it pays for itself in the next decade-plus (See: Kobe).
Also JTA should be in the regular rotation if not starting over Bazemore right now. He’s so good. Draymond plus consistent shooting?
Like Kobe, will he start a school to teach young kids how to black mamba over others? Hope not
JTA is needed in the second team because of his passing ability. To me he is better than Oubre. JTA should be signed to a 2 year deal so can evolve more into the chemistry of the team.
Keeping Steph is important but I wouldn’t get involved with shady activity or illegal stuff if that’s the only way to keep him…
Shady stuff? SMH there is no shady stuff going on to keep him but shady stuff down south of a old guy trying to pry players to win.
I’m just saying you do anything within reason to make him stay. Once he asks ownership to break the law is when you have to think long and hard about how far you’re willing to go to keep him.
What do you give the man who has everything? That’s when I begin to worry…
?? Explain how he asked ownership to break a law? facts only this is not a what if answer.
Look, a lot of these guys — they’re superwealthy. Maybe they have some exotic pets: a panda, a tiger, whatever. People look the other way. They’re eccentric.
But once you start to get into talk of human trafficking, bioethics, research labs in San Fran — all the money in the world isn’t going to save you.
I will just say that no one player is bigger than an organization (or the law…)
So you are pretending things that are not there. You sound like a Qan conspiracy crazy. If somebody is telling you that all of it is going on in San Fran they are just telling you crazy stuff. Curry is not a money hungry person he has done a lot of great things for poor parts of the world. He also uses his money to do good. He is a Christian that stands up for God.
I once met him in a toy store with his entire family after he signed his big contract. No body guards no personal shopper. Just him shopping with his family and being a dad. Walking his daughter around the store. Your view of him is wrong.
You met him in a toy store? Yeah, right. Please don’t come on here with made up stories.
I did and was the store was pretty much empty. In the bay area its not uncommon to see somebody famous walk into a store. I once saw another Warrior player in a store but he was easy to spot since he was taller than most of the aisles. So you don’t think celebrities’ do normal things?
Wow, if that’s true that’s pretty cool. Nice to hear he’s down to earth and that you had a good experience.
Dude wtf are you even talking about?
Should give Mo Wagner a try
Not trying to infringe on Sillivan’s territory here, but assuming Beal isn’t available this summer I wonder if Sacramento or NO would consider doing deals centered on Fox or Ingram for Wiseman and the Wolves pick (and whatever salary GSW needs to include)
Sacramento isn’t going anywhere with Fox as their best player (altho they prob think they are), and starting a rebuild with two top 5 guys would be pretty good
And in NO it seems like only a matter of time before they split Zion and Ingram. Getting two lotto picks to try next to Zion might appeal to the Pelicans
I think Ingram is a better fit for GSW, but in either case they’re at least adding an All Star caliber talent to the roster to prove to Steph they’re putting all the chips on the table
Omari Spellman
Warriors it’s all about next yr now. Let Wiseman heal. Make sure Klay is right. And get ready for the draft. Imo they need to decide on Wiggins or Obrue. They don’t need both with Klay back. And I don’t think they are a good mix. Both are similar type players. You only need one. So who do you move. Wiggins is signed . Obrue could be moved in a sign n trade. Since Warriors own his Bird rights. But that’s more difficult than to move Wiggins. Warriors could have two top picks in the draft. So they could have major decisions coming. No matter how they do it. This team will be much better next yr. And should contend for the West.
Can you say tank?
I might be wrong but it feels like JJJ has been out for 8 months & doesn’t seem too close to a comeback, so if it is similar for J-Wise he might very well miss the first half of next season, at least… tough break for the kid!
