It is anticipated that the Wizards will attempt to negotiate a new contract extension with All-Star guard Bradley Beal this offseason, a source tells Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington. Beal previously signed a two-year extension, worth nearly $72MM, in 2019 — it will take effect during the 2021/22 season.
As Hughes writes, should the two parties opt to get a deal done this season, the maximum value of such an agreement would be a projected $181.5MM over four years. If Beal decides to wait until the 2022 offseason, turning down his $36.4MM player option for ’22/23 and becoming a free agent, he could sign a new five-year contract with the Wizards worth a projected $235MM.
The heftier package would be available as a result of Beal having reached his 10th season of NBA play, and thus qualifying for a higher maximum salary. If he were to change teams at that point, he’d be eligible for a four-year deal worth a projected $174MM.
Beal enjoyed a stellar season in 2020/21, helping the Wizards return to their first playoffs since 2018. Across 60 regular season games, Beal averaged 31.3 PPG, 4.7 RPG, and 4.4 APG, while sporting a shooting line of .485/.349/.889.
Beal and his similarly expensive new backcourt mate Russell Westbrook guided the Wizards to a 34-38 record in the East, and qualified for the playoffs by winning one of their two play-in games. Washington would go on to fall 4-1 to the top-seeded Sixers in the first round.
Trade idea
Pelicans get Beal and Bertans
Wizards get Ingram and Ball

Lol. This is AWFUL
Beal needs to goto Dallas, Miami or NY.
From the Wizards side, why would they do this? They have Russ at PG under a very large contract. You’d have to move Russ to SG, and hope Russ is happy at SG.
Big if, but if the Wiz were to deal Beal, it’d make way more sense to acquire a big man who can play. They’re better with Beal if they can extend him though, which is clearly the intent.
Beal would be a fool to sign an extension.
He can make more if he waits, plus Washington is never going to be competitive.
While I agree Ingram would be the start of this trade package, Bertans is a negative asset. Ingram and 3 or 4 Top-5 protected firsts.
It feels like every year there is a Bradley Beal extension
Hawks have the most and best deal for Beal. There is no better time than now. To move Beal. After his season they will maximize their haul. I just don’t see why keep Beal. Westbrook should be easier to move with a yr left on contract. I would move Bertans too. Just press the redo button.
Why would you re-do, out of curiosity? I know 34-38, but I feel like if they could compete in the east with some tweaks. Not a Wizards fan, btw- so unbiased opinion.
As great as Westbrook was down the stretch he’s still shown serious wear and tear the last two seasons. He’s a worse shooter than ever and entering his mid-30’s, it seems like a matter of time
before he performance falls off a cliff for good.
Then the supporting cast is overall underwhelming. Thomas Bryant is good but he’s coming off an ACL. Bertans has been up and down. Rui has some potential but IDK if anyone sees him as a future All Star. What’s the absolute ceiling for this team? Maybe a 6 seed if everything breaks in their favor?
Overall, it’s almost impossible to move Beal from a PR standpoint because of how they ended the year. But investing long-term in this roster just seems like a dead end.
It’s time to trade Beal. They won’t win with him.
They’ve never won anything with or without him.
Even the MJ wizard teams sucked.
Wiz management are truly clueless.
This will be a true testament if a player wants money or a chance to compete. Good luck Beal!
