JULY 30: The trade is now official, the Knicks announced in a press release.
JULY 29: The Knicks will send the No. 32 pick to the Thunder for the Nos. 34 and 36 selections, tweets Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. Shams Charania of The Athletic adds (via Twitter) that the Knicks will be choosing Villanova forward Jeremiah Robinson-Earl with the No. 32 pick, and he will then be rerouted to Oklahoma City.
The Knicks drafted sharpshooting 6’4″ Žalgiris guard Rokas Jokubaitis with the No. 34 pick and 6’2″ West Virginia point guard Miles McBride with the No. 36 selection.
New York also has the No. 58 pick still upcoming in tonight’s draft. Marc Berman of the New York Post tweets that the club could be making further deals before the night is through.
In the first round, the Knicks selected Houston shooting guard Quentin Grimes with the No. 25 pick after sending their No. 21 pick, Tennessee wing Keon Johnson, to the Clippers in exchange for the No. 25 selection and a future second-rounder. Earlier, the Knicks flipped the No. 19 pick to the Hornets for a protected 2022 first-round pick.
Robinson-Earl, 20, was the 2020/21 Big East Player of the Year, and averaged 15.7 PPG, 8.5 RPG and 2.2 APG across his 25 contests as a sophomore at Villanova.
I think it’s the other way around
34 and 36. Ok impress me please
I know McBride and Bassey are still there .
36 has to be McBride, right?
At least they come away with a couple PG prospects. The fact that they kept trading down for questionable returns tells me they’re planning on being active during free agency. Not a great free agent class to go all in on. I’m not optimistic.
Agreed, but at the same time reports stated they wanted to keep cap flexibility for the following year and not this year. I suspect they may be willing to take on an expiring contract or two, or perhaps even a deal with all the picks they have for someone really good along with a bad contract. With all the picks and cap room they have, plenty of options put them in a good position.
When the music stopped, they added the wing (Grimes) and guard (McBride) that they wanted once they couldn’t trade up from #19. Got an early 2nd round draft and stash (RJ), and used #58 on flyer (Sims). If they drafted Grimes and McBride at 19 and 21, nobody says boo. They do some work, and, in a tough trade environment, get the same guys and pick up an extra future 1st and 2nd, and fans are upset.
The only issue I have with their draft night is they got the wrong guy out of Texas. Greg Brown was the 2nd round flyer I would have preferred. Although they would have had to use one of the higher seconds or trade up.
