Kevin Durant‘s latest comments on Kyrie Irving sounded like a plea for the Nets All-Star point guard to get vaccinated and rejoin the team for the entire season, as Nets Videos relays (Twitter link).
“We want him here for the whole thing,” Durant said. “We want him here for games, home games, practices, away games, shootarounds all of it. Hopefully, we can figure this thing out.”
The latest development on the Irving saga came Friday, when the team was informed that he could practice with the team but not play in home games.
We have more from the New York City teams:
- Nets guard James Harden struggled in his preseason debut on Friday against Milwaukee, scoring eight points and committing four turnovers. Harden said it was an odd experience after missing playoff games and spending most of the offseason recovering from a hamstring strain, Brian Lewis of the New York Post writes. “Practice is different obviously, but just being on the court and having to move felt weird. But I’ll get adjusted to it,” he said.
- Alec Burks‘ ability to make an immediate impact on a game is a luxury for Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau, Peter Botte of the New York Post writes. “We were in desperate need of shooting, so he provided shot-making, playmaking,” Thibodeau said. “He can go off the dribble, can play three positions, and he can function as a starter or a guy off the bench. As soon as you put him in the game, he’s ready to go.” Burks re-signed with the Knicks in August on a three-year, $30MM pact.
- Knicks wing Evan Fournier was added mainly to bring some offensive punch but he vows to not be a defensive liability, Botte relays in a separate story. “I consider myself a guy that competes really hard, so I’m not concerned about the defense at all,” he said. “Even as a unit, we’re going to be good defensively.” Fournier was acquired in a sign-and-trade from Boston on a four-year deal worth up to $78MM.
What happens if long term side effects come out and all of our professional athletes struggle to have children? This is america, we have the freedom to make our own decisions. They are at the lowest risk possible being in the shape they are and the vaccine doesn’t stop them from being contagious so why force them.. I don’t blame him, no one truly knows the side effects, we are less then a year into it, we won’t know fully for many years from now
What if short term effects are deaths?
I guess you forgot that everybody dies, including you. What’s the point in living in fear of death and taking measures to prevent an early death, if we all die anyways?? We are witnessing the death of logic here, and people like you are being used to fan the flames
Theone23 bemoaning the death of logic while saying an early death is the same as eventual death… Hilarious but sad
Covid has to be nipped in the bud. It has been a long “year” for us but a short one for a mutating strain.
Athletes as role models cannot be absolved. Why exempt them? Don’t they get enough compensation as it is? Why more?
That perfectly sums up what a death cult the right is. The fact that he would invoke logic while typing the rest of that sentence is worthy of a Dunning-Kruger award.
Playing basketball is a luxury not a right. It’s not about what can happen to him as much as it is about him catching it and spreading it, even if that other orson is vaccinated.
He’s a professional, it’s his job. Not a luxury
@KFCF… so if Kyrie doesn’t get vaccinated, he can catch the virus & pass it on, right?
If Kyrie gets vaccinated, he can still catch the virus & pass it on, right?
I mean when you put it like this I can see your point, how vital it is for America’s national security that he takes the vax, right?
People who are vaccinated are less likely to contract the virus at all.
People who have been vaccinated with a breakthrough infection usually have a lower viral load, and a shorter time where they are shedding virus.
Vaccinated people make up 1:11 hospitalized cases.
The chance of adverse effects of the vaccine is far lower than the chance of catching corona. Also more likely is dying in an airplane crash, a car accident, a house fire. People are really bad at evaluating risk.
There is a % of the population where if they are vaccinated the virus burns out and is fully gone, because some people who are immune compromised the vaccine doesnt work for, and children who cant be vaccinated we need everyone else to step up to protect them. Also older people with weaker immune systems need boosters because they dont maintain immunity as long and dont have as robust an immune system to begin with, so they are more likely to have breakthrough infections with worse complications.
Covid is from the same virus family as the flu, so it’s not that scientists started from scratch, but needed to figure out the structure of the strain. I’d say the side effects from Covid outweigh the vaccination – such as lung scarring.
Then again, we’re talking about a guy who would drive across the globe looking for the ‘edge of the world’ detour sign.
So basically the entire plot of the movie Children of Men (which is the sterility of the entire human race) was caused by the coronavirus vaccine? Wow, I never knew that.
I understand what you mean, but I’m not gonna have revisionist history and pretend pro athletes in the past, present, and future don’t risk their bodies and health to play their sport and compete to win. One of the Nets players is Aldridge who has a heart condition yet is playing. Read about Dion Sanders in football and how he needs a mobility scooter at times in his own house or how Max Scherzer’s back spasms were so bad one season with the Nats that he couldn’t get out of bed.
Kyries personal junk has always been at the forefront of his thinking he’s a 35 million a year drama waiting to happen. Durant is along with the entire nets organization his enabler. Is he worth the aggravation? Not in my opinion.
Does anyone think KD has any regrets joining forces with Kyrie?
Kyrie is an early candidate for Teammate of the Year.
I have been a fan of Burks and Harden since their college days. Irving’s Duke days were short-lived and Fournier is a late bloomer without them.
