Sources told Tony Jones of The Athletic that “there is a world where the Jazz keep most of their top-seven core with the hope that a new coach energizes them.” Jones explores the potential cost of a Rudy Gobert trade to Chicago with fellow Athletic writer Darnell Mayberry, but stresses that Gobert won’t be traded just for the sake of shaking up the roster, noting that the asking price for the three-time Defensive Player of the Year will be very high.
Utah is casting an extremely wide net as they seek a replacement for Quin Snyder. As our head coaching search tracker shows, Sam Cassell became the 15th candidate linked to the Jazz after it was reported that he’ll interview for the vacancy.
Here’s more from the Northwest:
- The Trail Blazers are hosting a pre-draft workout with six prospects on Wednesday, including a couple of potential lottery picks, tweets Aaron J. Fentress of The Oregonian. Shaedon Sharpe, the No. 7 prospect on ESPN’s big board, headlines the group, followed by Jeremy Sochan (No. 15), Dalen Terry (No. 25), John Butler (No. 67), Jamaree Bouyea (No. 79) and Jordan Hall (No. 87). Portland holds the Nos. 7, 36 and 59 picks in the draft.
- The Timberwolves are also hosting workout of draft-eligible players on Wednesday, according to Darren Wolfson of 5 Eyewitness News (Twitter link). The group features multiple potential second-round picks, including Hugo Besson (No. 41 on ESPN’s board), Michael Foster Jr. (No. 49), Jean Montero (No. 52) and Gabe Brown (No. 78). It also includes Nysier Brooks, who is unranked, and David Roddy (No. 30), as Wolfson previously reported. The Wolves hold the Nos. 19, 40, 48 and 50 picks, but aren’t expected to have four rookies on the roster next season.
- Peyton Watson (No. 34) headlines a group of six prospects working out for the Nuggets on Thursday, as Harrison Wind of DNVR Sports relays (via Twitter). The other five players are Florida’s Anthony Duruji, UNLV’s Bryce Hamilton, Flagler’s Jaizec Lottie, Marquette’s Darryl Morsell and Buffalo’s Ronaldo Segu, all of whom project to go undrafted and are unranked on ESPN’s board. After reaching an agreement to trade JaMychal Green to the Thunder, Denver now controls the Nos. 21 and 30 picks in the 2022 draft.
Seen a rumour saying hawks and Jazz are discussing a deal
Rudy Gobert for Clint Capela, John Collins, DeAndre Hunter and a first.
If I’m the Jazz I would take that in a heartbeat.
Clint gives you 80% of what Rudy does in the first place. John Collins born and raised in Utah returns home and he’s actually good mates with Donovan Mitchell. Plus you get DeAndre Hunter who’s a young dawg and a first.
You’d have something like
1. ????? Clarkson
2. Mitchell
3. Hunter
4. Collins
5. Capela
And have Conley, Bogi, ONeale, Gay, Hernagomez and picks as pieces all available for trades to make the roster even better.
For the hawks it would be an absolutely terrible deal. Leaving them with what Trae Hueter Bogi Gallo and Gobert as a starting line up and next to no bench.
If I’m the Jazz I’d be happy to instead of revive the first give it away to get Capela, Collins and Hunter
Sure it’s nice (for Utah) but seems doubtful that Hawks would do that.
And what do you have against Conley, PER 17 and 41% from three? Mitchell is no PG, never has been, and slotting him there is a nba2k trap. He and Clarkson are both gunners, not passers, and supposed to be, to be their best.
Yeah seems doubtful for sure just a rumour I had seen a few times.
As for against Conley, I don’t have much of a problem with him but with all those guys and picks and stuff he would be the weakest part of that team and you could easily upgrade or flip for picks.
Reports are it would not include Hunter, and they have been pushing teams away from Hunter. If he’s involved then you don’t get all of the rest.
Huerter, Collins, Capela and maybe some swapping of picks.
I mean, if you are the Jazz take it. I hope they’re posturing with all this news of running it back, because that core is never going to work.
Terrific trade for Jazz. Collins, Huerter, Capela is a steal. Huerter gives you shooting, Collins gives you an athletic big who can space the floor… Capela is more than capable of replacing Gobert… GOBERT had to be taken out when Dallas played small, highly over rated for a one dimensional big who doesn’t really fit in today’s NBA….
Nah I definitely seen Hunter not Hueter but maybe that’s why the deal hasn’t gone through as the two teams discuss players and picks.
However Spida Hunter Collins and Capela would be a very good core and as I said if that’s why negotiations are being held up I’d say forget giving us the first we will give you one to take Hunter.
If it was Hueter Collins and Capela I’d still take that but as you said I’d want picks and swaps attached. I’d try for 2 additional firsts but settle for 1 first and 2 swaps
The rumor is misunderstood by a lot of people. It says that it’s some combination of that list, but not all of them.
That would mean it’s more likely Capela, Collins, and a first or maybe Huerter in there as well. Another would be Capela, Hunter, and a first.
I’ve also heard Collins, Hunter, and a first for Gobert and Bogey. The idea with his trade is to free up cap space for the Jazz. They could include Rudy Gay and/or Conley with more players/picks, in this trade or with another team, if they are serious about clearing salary cap space.
Yeah I’ve seen Bogi included aswell. I mean if I’m the Jazz tho I’d happily let Gobert and Bogi leave for Hunter Collins and Capela.
Born in Utah, yes. Raised in Utah, no. His parents were in the military and he was stationed overseas before 4 years old.
I would be shocked if the Hawks traded Hunter, unless they get back a high quality combo F in the deal. He’s a more valuable asset than either Capella or Collins.
That’s likely why I’ve heard the Jazz would add Bogey to the trade offer.
He can play big or on the perimeter. Terrific scorer and very consistent. The Jazz just need more youth and athleticism. They’re sorely lacking.
Bogey would immediately be the Hawks secondary go-to scorer. He can even be the primary scorer when Trae Young is injured or resting.
The two Bogis would be good.
Both very efficient and versatile players.
Trae Bogi Bogi Gobert it’s nice.
But as you’ve said with the combomation of players and things it’s Hueter and Hunter which is the sticking point.
Hawks would rather give up Hueter and keep Hunter, Jazz don’t need a SG in Hueter and would rather Hunter.
Be interesting to see if the two teams come to an agreement
Bogi Bogi Hunter Huerter. Sounds nasty.
Whatever, when 2 parties that want a shakup get together, all the previous best-laid plans will be forgotten…
Collins to Utah Would be good. Hunter is going no where unless it is an over pay. Huerter and Collins is enough for Rudy.
They could include a third team, like the Pistons, who gets Conley. The Pistons then send someone the Hawks want for Hunter.
Otherwise, the Jazz could just go for a Grant for Conley swap deal. I imagine there’s additional pieces to that to make it happen. Could do a Conley and Huerter for Grant and picks?
Jazz lineup would then be:
Donovan
Royce
Grant
Collins
Capela
I would then send Royce and picks for a 2-way SG that’s longer and more athletic.
