The Bulls have agreed to a summer league deal with point guard Carlik Jones, a source told Hoops Rumors. Jones signed 10-day contracts with the Mavericks and Nuggets this past season. He averaged 22.1 points per game with Dallas’ G League affiliate, shooting an efficient 46% from the floor.
Jones, 24, was also named to the All-NBA G League Third Team and NBA G League All-Rookie Team. He played for the Mavericks in summer league last year after going undrafted.
Here are some other summer league commitments to share:
- The Hawks have received a summer league commitment from Chris Clemons, a league source told Hoops Rumors. Clemons averaged 21.3 points per game with the Celtics’ G League affiliate this season, which included a 52-point outing. The 5’9″ point guard was one of the top scorers in the G League this season.
- Free agent guard Jalen Lecque has accepted a summer league invite from the Mavericks, a source told Hoops Rumors. The 22-year-old averaged 16.8 points per game with the Wisconsin Herd this season, shooting 42%. He holds experience with the Suns and Pacers.
- Free agent forward Emanuel Terry has committed to playing summer league with the Magic, according to a source. Terry, 6’9″, holds brief NBA experience with the Suns and Heat. He averaged 15.6 points and 8.4 rebounds with the Stockton Kings this year.
Carlik can play.
I’m surprised Lecque isn’t in the league. He’s a very young and athletic 2 guard who can help out on defense. He just needs the right team who can sign him to a two-way and develop him throughout the season, e.g., Detroit, OKC, or Houston, who all have no problem with starting 20-year-old unproven guards. (Detroit Saben lee, OKC Lindy Waters, Houston Daishen Nix)
Chris Clemons dominated with Houston as a bench player with only 15 or so minutes per game but hasn’t had a chance since. Largely due to his torn Achilles in training camp, but somehow he still hasn’t gotten a second chance. The biggest red flag is his height, only 5-11, but he is a very athletic player who I’ve seen dunk a few times. He was on a 10-day in Atlanta earlier this season, but surprisingly didn’t even appear in-game for the then Covid-infected team.
Are these the same as exhibit 10 deals?
I don’t believe these are the same as exhibit 10 deals. Exhibit 10 deals are essentially training camp deals. These are just commitments from players to play for a given teams summer league squad. They are still free to sign contracts anywhere they choose
Correct. Summer league deals aren’t technically NBA contracts and don’t require 20-man offseason roster spots, whereas Exhibit 10 deals do.
We generally don’t write much about summer league deals unless we’re the ones breaking the news or the players are notable ones (like when Michael Beasley played for Portland’s SL team last year).
