The Spurs and Hawks began talking about Dejounte Murray and John Collins prior to the trade deadline in February and have resumed those discussions this offseason, according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, who says the conversations remain very fluid.
As Fischer explains, while Collins appeared to be part of those trade talks leading up to the draft, word spread earlier this week that the two teams were discussing a new framework that included Danilo Gallinari and three first-round picks going to San Antonio. However, one league source told Fischer that Collins was once again on the table on Tuesday. Fischer has also heard from sources that the Spurs’ asking price for Murray has gotten as high as four first-rounders.
While multiple reports in recent weeks have indicated Collins will likely be on the move this offseason, it’s unclear which teams represents his most likely landing spots outside of San Antonio. Fischer writes that the Kings, Trail Blazers, Celtics, and Nets all conveyed “some level” of interest around the draft, but adds that it doesn’t appear the Hawks have made progress in talks with any of those teams.
Here are a few more trade rumors from around the NBA:
- As the Sixers continue to explore the trade market for possible deals, the two teams that have been linked most often to swingman Matisse Thybulle are the Trail Blazers and Mavericks, according to Fischer.
- The Thunder still technically have unused 2021/22 cap space that could be used to absorb unwanted salary and they remain interested in exploring scenarios that use that space and net them assets, sources tell Fischer. That window will close in less than 48 hours when the NBA’s new league year begins.
- With Russell Westbrook officially under contract for the 2022/23 season, a trade remains possible and would be the Lakers‘ preference, writes Jovan Buha of The Athletic. However, the Lakers remain averse to attaching a first-round pick to Westbrook to move him, so they’re currently planning to have him start next season on their roster, sources tell Buha.
I have yet to hear a good reason as to why we would trade John Collins. As far as Dejounte I’d def give up Gallo + 3 1stsfor him & even Gallo, Huerter + 2 1sts but I doubt I’d give up more than that.
Especially now…why not just bring back Delon Wright, instead of trading several pieces/several assets for Murray, who is great, but doesnt seem necessary…and also, they have avenues to clear a bigger role for Collins, and be very good…like if they move Capela and 1 of Gallo/Bogdanovic
And then I still question the Spurs moving murray, even with all their guards, but I guess I could see the idea of maybe accepting a significant deal for him…I just think they arent that far away, and he is a complement to what they have, and now that they have a lot of other pieces, I would like to see what they can do
I did say it seemed like a lot ofovement was about to happen though, based on the last couple of years, but also how the draft went…a lot of teams making moves just to make moves though, in my opinion
Well the reason why a team like the Hawks would trade for Dejounte as opposed to just bringing Delon back is bc having Dejounte makes us a much better team. Having a guy like him starting in our backcourt actually is necessary. We were a bad defensive team last season that’s just facts. Having Trae & Kevin as our backcourt just puts way too much stress on Capela bc those guys are minus defenders & always will be… Bringing back Delon & rolling with the same backcourt wouldn’t be a bad option at all but it would guarantee us having an average to below average defense which obv makes it harder to consistently win games… I totally agree John should have a bigger role & get more touches/shots. Gallo is def gone & his absence will def mean a bigger role for John. I’d def trade Huerter before Bogdan tho… lol what makes you think the Spurs aren’t that far away? They got zero chance at winning a playoff series with their current roster… lol just bc you don’t understand a team’s motives it doesn’t mean they’re just making moves for no reason. The narcissism in your thought process is thick af lol its def not just you tho
Oh look, an unintelligible screed.
Yeah, talk about narcissism…
I’d much rather talk about basketball…
From this post and prior posts I’ve read from formerlyz his perspectives in his are well thought out and objective on the other hand Sankara’s posts on the other hand are condescending and subjective af.
I appreciate it. I mostly try to stay out of whatever isnt basketball related, even when I get targeted, but sometimes I do end up responding with something, even though I prefer not to.
Ignoring certain things at the end there, I understand why, but a lot of people really dont get how the difference for a lot of these teams is really just 1-3 players, and the roster being used correctly. When I said teams are making moves just to make moves, I wasn’t talking about the Spurs. I meant in general. Teams trading pieces for other pieces and plugging holes, but opening others that are much more easily filled in different ways, and could potentially make that team more complete…but you always take 1 or 2 words, or a sentence and think about it the way you want to, and hamper on that 1 thing alone, and make judgments about people in your posts, so maybe I should have just left it alone, instead of pointing out that I think a team with versatile pieces, who also just added big team needs, isnt that far away, as can also be said for many teams in this league that develops literally by the day
have Okongwu, Collins, Jalen Johnson as options at the 5, especially now that they replaced losing Reddish with AJ Griffin. Bring back Delon Wright, and stay healthy, and that team looks pretty good to me, but maybe I’m missing something
Trae Young, Kevin Huerter, DeAndre Hunter, John Collins, Onyeka Okongwu
Delon Wright, Bogdanovic, Jalen Johnson, AJ Griffin
That’s a really good rotation, with versatility, defense, shooting, and playmaking
If you can get another 3 and D piece on the wing or at the 4, or possibly a useful floor space that can adequately defend at the 5, I can see moving him, but otherwise, I think it makes more sense to move those other guys/more likely Gallinaro/Capela right now
Obv the bit about narcissism running wild in your thought process was distracting and hurt your feelings as well as others’. Its a trip how disrespectful yall are to these athletes but also completely unable to acknowledge your own faults. And how sensitive yall are to a small fraction of the toxic criticism that you throw at great basketball players. But anyway… If the Hawks bring back Delon & stay healthy they’re definitely title contenders. They were title contenders even without Delon in 2021 & woulda been right there again this past season if not for the injuries to Collins & Capela down the stretch. Running it back isn’t a bad option as I said before. But like I also said before we are always gonna be a bad defensive team & force Clint to work too hard if we continue with Trae/Kev as our starting backcourt. Also John isn’t someone we want playing 5 unless we’re down alot late & need alot of firepower on the court. He’s not big enough to play the 5 effectively. Jalen should never be at the 5. I love Onyeka but I don’t think he’s ready to start for a title contender. He’s a great weapon off the bench & whenever Clint needs rest tho. Onyeka had a perfect opportunity to show that he was ready for a starting spot when Clint went down right before the playoffs. He wasn’t bad vs Miami but he’s clearly not on Clints level offensively, defensively or as a rebounder. Only way we should trade Clint is for an upgrade (Ayton), not just to clear the way for a youngster
Y’all? I dont do apcial media, and dont throw I can’t toxicity towards players, so I dont know what you mean, and also all I was saying is I dont understand the point in randomly talking $#!+ about someone that isnt participating in that…., but I can see why you feel the need to do so, and then call people out for questioning why. Social media is a sickness, and that is something shared by a lot of people, including yourself. I dont blame you
I personally disagree about those guys abilities to play the 5 in certain lineups vs certain matchups, and on Huerter’s defense, although he struggled this recent year, but I understand your sentiments there, and with that in mind, I could see wanting to add more help defensively, in addition to bringing back Delon Wright, which I essentially alluded to myself. Another piece at the 2/3 that can defend and shoot is probably something that would bring that roster even further
Sank, players are not reading, and should be used to bracing themselves if they are. Your concern for their feelings but not the feelings of posters who are present and reading is legit not sane. You have developmental issues.
And a player being “great” has nothing to do with it.
Your criticism of “us” is of you. I could harfly word it better.
The most that others have come up with regarding Collins.. is a 3 team trade so the hawks can use 1 less 1st rounder to get Murray (ie. get a 1st round pick for collins)
It sounds like a small portion was leaked. And the leak keeps getting re-verified that, yes those 3 players names were tossed around. But no further specifics. No one is adding anything new to the story (nothing new that makes sense to me anyway.)
2 first rounders….
Oh make that Unprotected….
3 first rounders.
4 first rounders.
The Count works for the Mavs.
Soon it could be more. Along with nique, the stadium, and jon koncaks old shoes.
Wha?
I don’t see anything that the Mavs can offer Philly for Thybulle, since the 76ers ambition to move him is to cut salary … especially since Dallas is reluctant to take on more salary themselves (cough cough Jalen Brunson) and let a valuable trade exception from the Josh Richardson deal expire. There’s not a 1-for-1 deal out there that fits within their cap constraints for all practical purposes.
The money could work out if the deal were expanded to make it Thybulle + Tobias Harris for Josh Green + Tim Hardaway + Dwight Powell … but can’t see Philadelphia entertaining that, even if that shaves money for them.
Lakers only shot to move Russ without losing a first would have to be charlotte. Russ for Hayward and maybe rozier or oubre in order to free up long term space for bridges’ max, lakers might have to throw in a second or two
Russ to Utah for Conley, Juancho, Gay & Azubuike… Russ to Minnesota for D’lo & Beverley could both work
They don’t work if they don’t want Russ.
Tobias isn’t going anywhere in my mind.
Thybulle, Korkmaz, Joe/Shake gets you to 11 M and their only assets are 2 2023 2nd round picks or future 2nd round picks.
They have Melton and they potentially have Tucker. They still need a 2/3 rotational player.
The best candidates that is get-able would be Royce O’Neale, Josh Richardson, Alec Burks, and Reggie Bullock in order of most preferred.
No shot at a guy like Dillon Brooks or Josh Hart with that package. And T Ross is mostly cooked, not worth trading for at this point at his salary point.
They don’t have the money for an Oladipo or Otto Porter if they go with Tucker in FA. TJ Warren is a huge ? mark and probably won’t accept vet min. Kyler Anderson should get more than vet min.
Then you look at the vet min guys… Not sure a guy like Wes Matthews or Wayne Ellington come here or make sense for this roster given their age and utilization. Ben McLemore is a turnstile on D. Rodney Hood probably won’t be in the league next year.
And then maybe they bring Drummond or Dwight back to back-up Embiid.
If they bring in a Josh Richardson…
Embiid
Tobias
Tucker
Harden
Maxey
Playoffs:
6th – Melton
7th – Richardson
8th – Dwight
9th – Niang
10th – Bball/Bassey/Springer/Shake/Joe if they even play
4 first round picks for Murray sounds kind of cheap… someone will pay it!
