The Knicks have “redoubled” their efforts to find a new home for forward Cam Reddish, according to Marc Stein, who says in his latest Substack report that Reddish is the Knick most likely to be moved ahead of the February 9 trade deadline.
Stein confirms previous reporting from Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, stating that the Lakers and Bucks are among the teams with interest in Reddish. The Mavericks are another potential suitor, says Stein.
Scotto also previously reported that the Knicks are seeking a pair of second-round picks in a Reddish trade. Stein doesn’t dispute that the club is looking for “second-round draft compensation” in exchange for Reddish, though he doesn’t specify the number of picks New York is looking for.
Sources tell Stein that the Knicks have some interest in reacquiring Mavericks wing Reggie Bullock, who spent two seasons in New York from 2019-21 and was a favorite of head coach Tom Thibodeau. Although Reddish is earning just $5.95MM compared to Bullock’s $10.01MM salary, a one-for-one swap of the two players would be permitted under the NBA’s trade rules since the Knicks are well below the tax line.
Bullock is held in “high regard” by Dallas, per Stein, though he’s having a down year offensively, averaging just 5.8 points per game on .364/.338/.654 shooting in 43 games (29.3 MPG). The 31-year-old is considered a solid, versatile defender and played heavy minutes (39.3 MPG) during the Mavs’ playoff run last season.
Reddish, meanwhile, was a highly regarded college prospect and entered the NBA in 2019 as the 10th overall pick out of Duke, but has yet to deliver on his potential during four seasons in Atlanta and New York. The 23-year-old fell entirely out of Thibodeau’s rotation last month, having not appeared in a game for the Knicks since December 3.
Justin Holiday, a 2023 2nd & a 2026 2nd to NYC for Cam… come on home young man
ATL gave up on him, I don’t see them making a move for him.
Atl didn’t give up on him. He asked to be traded.
Cam asked to be traded because he didn’t like his role. If they saw a reason to keep him they would’ve just said no and kept him.
Now you suggest they trade assets to get him back. He still wouldn’t be happy there as he’d be fifth on the depth chart at wing as I can’t see him taking Bogdanović or Griffin’s spot in the rotation.
Then at the end of the season Atlanta has to pony up a minimum $8 million to keep him if he can’t find an offer sheet that they’d have to match or lose 2 second rounders and Justin Holiday for a half a season of Cam Reddish.
You may be on to something though. Maybe he should go home. Philly could use a little bit more size on the bench.
So now they are dying to bring back they guy who demanded a trade….makes sense.
This guy gets it. That trade is on point.
Dallas would be a great landing spot for him. Phx and crowder.,
Mavs get Westbrook, Reddish, Lakers top-3 protected First
Lakers get Hardaway, Bertans, Bullock (3 shooters)
Knicks get Nunn and a Mavs future 2nd
Well thought out Sillivan
Doubt Lakers would trade their 1st for bertans contracts
They’d kinda have to in this scenario. The Mavs aren’t going to trade other assets that will work for salary matching purposes, and Westbrook is still a theoretical negative asset; there’s no reason for the Mavs to acquire him without receiving compensation. The Mavs are better off standing pat than getting Westbrook without draft compensation.
As a mavs fan, I’d love to give up reggie for cam. Dallas needs more young players. I think cam can be a strong defender when giving minutes. If anything, if dallas does trade bullock for cam. And reddish is just a faul, at least it opens up more minutes for Josh Green and hardy. Also bullock contract for next season in non guaranteed and with how he has been playing, it’s not a lock to come back
Reggie really isn’t a bad player, just been there and done that already. If Mavs give up 2 2rounders then, maybe.
Just send him somewhere to get buckets and play no D. The jazz probably will take it once they clear house.
And a guy like Hardy would have a better chance at getting through to someone like Cam, as slim as it might be. Zero chance with a HC like Thibs.
I don’t get the appeal from the Mavs end. Reddish has underperformed and is a free agent at the season’s end, so there is no upside for Dallas, even if he turns the corner. Bullock is a valued rotation player. Now is the Knicks are willing to kick back Dallas’s 1st round pick, let’s talk. But a straight up swap is nonsense.
Kick back their 1st, good luck with that one!)
That’s my point. Knicks ridiculous ask is countered by a ridiculous ask.
Reddish has zero value. He is a borderline 10 day contract candidate.
So Cam and a 1st for Reggie Bullock? Keep dreaming.
Yeah definitely not happening. Thibbs does love Bullock though. Knicks gotta come away with two second rounders out of the trade.
I agree, Cam has almost zero value because he will be a FA next season and hasn’t shown that he is a good rotation NBA player. Bullock is having a down year but is more likely to turn it around that Cam reaching that point in his career.
Not a valued rotation player. A formerly valued aging rotation player who continues to get minutes due to past performance and injuries to the roster. And without an improvement in performance, the final year of his contract next season will be an overpay.
Not saying I would necessarily do that deal (I probably wouldn’t), but I’d be an idiot not to consider it at least a tiny bit even if I’m hoping Bullock gets back on track (which I think he will, at least somewhat).
Cavs are looking for another wing player. A deal with Windler and a 2nd (ie. 2025 owed by the Bucks to Cleveland) possibly. Dollars work, and while Windler has yet to play this year, he should be getting close to a return.
Pat and a second for reddish?
Subtract Pat and maybe. 1/2 a season for Cam is not worth anything really.
Connaughton or Beverly?
Rozier and Hayward for Reddish and Fournier
I was a fan of Bullock when he was here, and didn’t like that the team just moved on from him. He certainly knows the system and fits culture-wise. The only issue I see is the guaranteed $$ on his contract next year (about 5 mm or so).
I can’t believe DAL believes Reddish can be more valuable on the court this year. But Bullock hasn’t been his usual self from 3 pt range, and that’s about all he adds on offense, and there is other value in the deal for DAL, even if Reddish just goes his merry way after the year. The deal reduces their luxury tax this year (by 12-15 mm), and gets them off the guaranteed $$ of Bullock’s contract next year. Alternatively, they could combine it with a simultaneous deal with another team to add a more significant contract at the deadline.
Bare with me here but…
NY: Zach LaVine
CHI: Evan Fouriner, DRose, Cam Reddish, Knicks 2023 first round pick (unprotected), Wizards 2023 first round draft pick (top 14 protected) and Bucks 2025 first round pick (unprotected).
Knicks get the big name player they wanted in the offseason not Donovan and instead Zach.
DRose returning back to Chicago would be great, Cam Reddish going to a team that needs bigger wings would be great for him. On top of that they get 3 first round picks all of which is great for their inevitable rebuild. I think Zach deals might look alright now but the way they are playing and he was playing it was moving towards being a negative value so moving off him now while he’s had a little run of form is perfect timing. Only negative is having to take back Fouriner deals.
For the knicks you get rid of Fouriner, DRose wasn’t playing and you were looking to move him, same with Reddish so it’s cleared 3 unwanted, not playing guys from your roster. It’s cost you 3 first round picks but you have a bunch of those saved up. You still have the Mavs first this year, you have your own first every future year so it’s not like your going without anytime soon.
The negative from this deal is the defence in the backcourt between Jalen and Zach. However I think it a necessary risk to take. RJ moves to the 3 and fills that role. Your offence moves a lot quicker with Zach pushing the pace in transition and also providing some facing. That’ll give Randle more room on the inside aswell. It opens up more roster spots for you to bring in guys.
As I said the negative will be the defence but if any coach was to bring the best out of them on that end it’s likely Thibs.
I’d roll the dice on it. Big name star, giving up guys you don’t want and picks that you can move without worrying about going without
The Bucks 2025 pick is top 4 protected. But also, imo that is too much for Zach Lavine. He’s great, but I’m not sure how he fits in with Brunson, RJ, and Randle all handling the ball. And does Lavine make them that much better? He’s been to the playoffs once in his entire career.
But on top of that, I don’t think the Knicks are as desperate to unload Rose, Fournier, or Reddish to the point where they’d need to attach three 1sts. Maybe if you protect the Bucks pick top 12 or something. I guess I’m just not that high on Lavine, who is a ‘star’ who has won zilch in this league and always seems to be complaining.
2 team option and 1 expiring contracts + 3 soso draft picks won’t give you Lavine … Bulls have to deal with Vuc 1st
1 first just to unload Fouriner, 1 first for taking on DRose and Reddish and then 1 for LaVine was my maths.
End of the day as you said “does LaVine make them better?”. My return argument to that is, how doesn’t he make them better. The knicks are literally giving up 3 guys that don’t get any minutes.
Fouriner 82, DRose 64 and Reddish 9. That’s how many minutes each guy has played since the start of December. Zach LaVines played 160 minutes in the last 10 days.
So just from the fact LaVine will get minutes on the court he’s going to be better.
As for the picks, the Knicks have a load of picks. 4 first this year, 1 next year, 2 in 2025, then one every year after that. What your giving up is the worst pick of the bunch. Your own pick this year after a LaVine trade it’ll be around 20th, the bucks pick in 2025 will be late 20’s and the wizards pick which won’t convey this year and is guaranteed to not be a top 10 with its protections.
Two late first, an eventual wizards pick, a bad contract and 2 unwanted scrubs for an all star level talent. Zach might not be a perfect fit like someone like OG would be but it’s the the fact your not giving up a hell of a lot. Toronto wouldn’t touch Fouriner, little care for DRose, and Reddish would be lost in FA. The late picks wouldn’t be a needle mover for them either. Whereas for Chicago DRose holds value. Reddish could be seen as worth investing in if he has a good run of form to end the season and Fouriners deals is mineable so you benefit from getting three picks.
Idk I think it’s a bold move for a big name and makes sense as they lose nothing
Terrible man. Too much 2k
How about Bullock and Bertans for Rose and Fournier.
You can start a sentence with the word “meanwhile,” ya know.
We’ll take Reggie back. I do this yesterday.
Boston sends dennis schroders tpe a second and draft rts. For yam madar.why does ny do it takes money of the cap also gives them a trade ex a draft pick and a euro pg with upside celtics need adit wing depth
Trade reddish to the Spurs for Diop and two 2nd rd picks
