There’s a huge market for Fred VanVleet if the Raptors decide to trade him, according to Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report.
The 28-year-old guard will be a free agent this summer if he turns down a $22.8MM player option, which Pincus says many league insiders expect to happen. VanVleet can negotiate an extension with Toronto through June 30, but the Raptors could try to move him before the deadline if they aren’t confident about reaching a new deal.
Pincus hears that the Heat, Lakers, Clippers, Timberwolves, Mavericks, Suns and Wizards would be among the most interested teams if VanVleet is made available. He also throws in the Magic, who are seeking an experienced lead guard to play alongside their young core.
The Raptors will want a premium price if they decide to part with VanVleet, Pincus adds, with some combination of young talent, draft assets and players on team-friendly contracts.
Pincus looks at a few other guards who could be changing teams before the deadline:
- With the Hornets near the bottom of the Eastern Conference, they may be willing to consider trading Terry Rozier, who has three more years and nearly $75MM left on his contract. Pincus notes that Charlotte discussed dealing Rozier to the Lakers last offseason and points out that Marc Stein recently identified the Suns as a possible suitor.
- Pincus hears that the Heat, Suns, Mavericks and Clippers would all be interested in trading for D’Angelo Russell if the Timberwolves can’t reach an extension soon with the impending free agent.
- Pincus lists the Lakers, Clippers and Timberwolves as teams in the market for Mike Conley if the Jazz decide to part with their veteran point guard. Conley has a $14.32MM guarantee on his $24.4MM salary for next season and would be much cheaper to acquire than Van Vleet.
- Eric Gordon is attracting interest from the Suns, Lakers and Bucks, but Pincus believes the Rockets may not get the first-round pick they want in return. He suggests Houston might have to settle for a pick swap, using the 2023 first-rounder the team is owed from Milwaukee.
- The Lakers haven’t given up trying to trade Russell Westbrook, but Pincus says they’re not willing to part with their two available first-round picks unless they get a star in return. He adds that L.A. may focus on smaller deals involving Patrick Beverley and Lonnie Walker in an effort to find wing depth or a backup big man.
- The Hawks aren’t looking to move Trae Young now, but a source tells Pincus that it could be a consideration during the offseason. Young has clashed with coach Nate McMillan, and Atlanta’s overall turmoil may lead the team to seek a fresh start.
VanFleet and Rozier are hot garbage. I wouldn’t give up anything of value for 2 players who shoot a high volume but make around 40%
And yet there sits Dlo on this list making both players look like All NBA calibre…
I get that about Rozier, but Freddie brings a lot more to a team than scoring.
Yeah, with FVV this should go without saying. It’s like he just look up his basic counting stats and then pretended he was saying something smart.
Fred does a lot of things on the floor that lead to wins. If Chicago is not gonna rebuild then they should trade for Van Vleet. He would solve a lot of problems that the Bulls have.
Good win by the Raptors tonight. FVV had a good game and showed why he is valuable. Siakam was awesome – dominant in all aspects of the game. The Raptors represent what can be great about the NBA – talent, hard work, playing with respect for the game and opponents, and most importantly playing as a team – hitting the shot when you’re open and making the extra pass when you’re not. I hope the team stays together and can hopefully add a skilled big man before the trade deadline, so they can compete against the 76ers and the Bucks, and hopefully make the playoffs and plan for more wins next year.
The best way to get more wins next year would be to tank this year. We’re not good enough to play against the top teams in the east and we’ll get bounced in 4 or 5 games. Why not try and slide back to #5, worst case if we hold our position we got decent enough lottery odds.
Heat, Suns, Mavericks and Clippers are all interested in D-Lo
D-Lo is the biggest underrated star over here.
Is this the reason?
D-LO is Russell, Westbrook is also Russell.
At this point Westbrook looks better…
He’s playing 6th man role well, the best role for Dlo…
It’s like you typed “give a nonsensical basketball take” into ChatGPT.
I heard this 100 times.
Lakers are not willing to part with their two available first-round picks with Westbrook unless they get a star in return.
This is like
A fool is trying to say something wise.
Russian AI bots can hear anything.
Seems like Dlo’s agent is blowing smoke to drive up the price of negotiation…
Dlo in a Heat uniform? He wouldn’t last a week of heat culture… Nevermind the fact that Butler will view him as soft as he views his best buddy…
The Suns have a chance to be good for a few year if they make the right move… Dlo is anything but the right move…
The Clippers aren’t stupid and wouldn’t waste their time with him… They took a chance on Wall yes, but he at least has a proven history…
The Mavs with Mark from Cuba at the helm… They are dumb enough to make the move, but only if it saves Mark from Cuba money…
DLo is an adult child… no team will win anything of significance with him in it’s lineup.
Seriously??? ATL is thinking ’bout trading Trae!!!
Boy, oh boy! A lot easier to get rid of their useless coach, the reality is that if they get rid of Trae the team will be at the bottom of the league for many years to come as they will never get good value for him, as you never do for a star player… it also will make passing on Luka at draft night look even worse than it already is, SMH!!!
1. Russ and 2 first for Zach LaVine (multiple reports out right now that the bulls would accept that)
2. Really want to see Terry on the clippers think he is the perfect piece to their puzzle.
Terry Rozier for Luke Kennard, John Wall and a pair of second round picks.
3. I don’t really understand why the Magic want FVV they have so many point guards already but sure why not. Great team for the Toronto to deal with cause they have a bunch of young players you can take back.
FVV and Birch for Bamba, Suggs and TRoss.
4. TWolves and Heat should trust try fix their own issues between each other.
Kyle Lowry and Duncan Robinson for DAngelo Russell, Tauren Prince, Wendell Moore and a second round pick.
1. Great deal for LA both short term and helping Bron push for a title and long term in building for life after Bron too. As for the Bulls, I guess it’s the rebuilding package to kick things off. 2 valuable first and a huge coding deal.
2. Love the Rozier fit. Rozier PG Kawhi Morris Zubac…Reggie Powell Covington Batum (need a back up 5). Rozier gets to play third choice scorer and ball handler but can lock in defensively too.
Hornets get Kennard one of the best shooters in the league, John Wall perfect for Balls development as a back up and you get draft capital.
3. As stated don’t understand the want for Fred but whatever. Great rebuilding package for the raptors. Think Sugg has a bunch more potential and can turn into a Pay Bev/Lonzo ball kinda build. Defensively strong, good playmaking and more efficient from outside when needed.
4. Miami gets a scorer in Dlo, a PF in Prince to help fill their needs. Lowry give the TWolves a veteran leader and cook head that’ll be huge for them and Robinson a large a shooter off the bench
Great trades! I like Wall to Charlotte too because he’s from NC and it would be a good story. The Hornets also need shooting and unselfish play, so I think Kennard is a better fit than Rozier.
Thanks, yeah Kennard can either be a starter next to Ball or come off the bench largely dependant in the draft. Either way Kennard is one of the best shooters in the league and doesn’t require many touches so it would allow more time for others to handle the ball, and he would provide a bunch of spacing and efficient scoring. Wall I think also helps Ball develop his game and running the second unit would help the younger guys too
What trades do you think helps Portland? They said they want to win now and refuse to tank.
I heard there’s a lot of Josh Hart rumours going around cause his deal has a player option and they are scared he will opt out and chase bigger money in the offseason and get nothing in return for him.
To be honest tho I haven’t seen much Portland games so I don’t have the biggest idea of there needs.
I’d look into Grant Williams, think he’d be great with his defence, versatility and shooting ability. Wonder if a straight swap for Jae Crowder could be an option too. Dame Simons Crowder Grant and Nurkic would be a really solid line up.
Lastly I’d suggest John Collins who looks very much on the outer at the hawks. He also be great at times as a small ball 5. To mark that work you’d have to include Winslow or Little or both but I’d probably make that move.
Thank you for your response. I don’t watch many Portland games either. They’re always stuck in mediocrity. I could not come up with any trade that could help them because they love Dame Lillard too much.
They need to a 2nd unit with Nurk and Hart money Blazers can get a more mobile center like Jackson Hayes/mo bamba + a bench 6th man who can score like TRoss/Will Barton a SF Reddish /Brisset/ Lamb + some PF like Nathan Knight/Bazley
if Timbs can get anything out of dLo trade that would be great news …Texas teams please help
If TOR is insisting on a “premium” for FVV, it’s hard to see anything getting done. If they want “some combination of young talent, draft assets and players on team-friendly contracts” they shouldn’t waste time talking the teams mentioned. Particularly, the latter, as none of the contracts held by these teams that are large enough to achieve matching have ever been called team friendly; although a few (e.g., Westbrook) are expiring.
Russ and 2 firsts for Zach Lavine would be a great deal for the Bulls. Then they waive Russ and use the cap space next year to sign some real help.
They would still be just as mediocre without Zach, and those ‘27/‘29 firsts will be lottery picks.
